In general this hotel is really confortable with massive rooms. The attention to detail is not always visible though.

My lock in my room kept on jamming and I couldn't open it without assistance. Sure this was not the first time it happened.

I had no hot water in the shower, which was extremely uncomfortable.

The staff in general were super friendly and helpful except for the guy at reception who literally took over 10 minutes to print my invoice.

Not bad for a one night stay on a business trip, but I would not recommend it if you are staying for longer.

Our firm recently booked this hotel at rather short notice for a conference. The arrangements were done promptly and to our satisfaction. The venue has ample parking and is siutated in a quiet area away from the noise of the city.Staff are friendly and helpful ensuring that all needs were catered for. Meals were prepared as per our request which all thoroughly enjoyed.

Definitely value for money and would not hesitate in using the facilities again.

Nice exterior is REALLY misleading. Other than clean linen and friendly reception staff everything was a mess! Missing shower door, broken toilet seat and basin light fitting hanging down the wall, towel rail pulling from the wall, - the list is endless!! Local staff and -guests were noisy all night long. No answer at Reception or Room Service even after 8am. Breakfast was non existent, not even coffee or toast OR a decent place to sit! We couldn't leave fast enough.

Making a booking at this establishment, will be one of the biggest mistakes of your life. Although management may want to cater for certain needs, others, like comfort, are certainly lacking.

After having confirmed with the hotel, no less than 3 times that we will be coming to Durban to take part in the Comrades marathon (for those who do not know, a 90km run and amongst the biggest races around the world), our room was firstly, not available; secondly, placed directly above a 21st birthday party; thirdly, after having requested to be moved, we were given the smallest, dingiest room available; dinner (of fish and chips) took 50 minutes (although we were the only other guests apart from the party goers eating and after being told it would take 15 minutes); fourthly, 40 minutes after finishing dinner and returning to our room to sleep (we were awoken by staff to tell us that we did not sign our dinner bill, although we had not seen a waiter for 20 minutes after finishing our meal and drinks). The noise of the party kept us awake for almost the entire night, even though the room cost us less than R200 less than a suite at one of the best boutique hotels in KZN.

Although this is a lovely venue, with obviously caring owners, the staff are completely incompetent and have no idea what is required of the hospitality industry. How this establishment attained a 4 star rating is truly a mystery, probably a miracle!

If you wish to have a relaxing time in Durban, this should be the last place you even consider going to!

At first when you arrive there is a nice feeling about the hotel, the pool area and overall architecture looks quite nice, but once you start looking behind doors it’s not nice. As soon as we got to the room the smell of dust and mold was evident and very uncomfortable, adding this to the fully outdated décor showed that nothing has changed probably since the 60’s. The yellow stains on the pillows where visibly through the covers, the bed sheets had holes in them, the cupboard was broken, the carpet was dirty and cracks in the walls just made all the initial charm disappear. Going for breakfast in the morning was horrible as the food didn’t look fresh and the restaurant simply smelt bad, an unforgettable gagging cocktail of dampness, years of cooking, dust and not such nice food. Besides the outdoor area the only other positive aspect is the staff. Overall this hotel needs new owners who actually understand the hospitality business and are willing to spend money to update and fix things up. The hotel has potential and will be great in the right hands.

A group of our employees stayed there during June 2013. The red lights did go on when this establishment (as well as their sister hotel) was the only one with availability for our required dates, but we simply had to be in Durban for these dates.
I stayed at eMakhosini during 2006 and back then it was an excellent establishment.
Today it is bit run down with unfriendly and unprofessional staff. Management is surely to blame for such a slide in service levels.

Avoid this hotel if you can.

Stayed there for a week in summer and I loved every minute of it. It's a small place, but very cozy. Staff is friendly and ready to help you with anything needed. View from the room was amazing. Even had little visitors outside, local wildlife what I think is interesting.
Would love to stay there again on my next visit.

Just to let all those considering this venue as a wedding venue BE WARNED! I attended a small wedding on 24 September 2011 and a large gift which I had brought for the couple was stollen as well as a large sum of cash from a gift envelope!! No one seems to know what happened to the gift, nor do the staff seem to be willing to assist or take ownership of that fact that there is clearly a theft issue within their establishment. I was told to 'refer to the contract' which, as a guest I didn't sign nor had a view of and just because a contract was signed, does it mean Management dont need to acknowledge or take responsibility for issues like these?

The Hotel facilities and rooms are great but TOTALLY wasted due to the exceptionally bad management.
This hotel is well situated in a great city in SA so has great potential. Until recently they were part of a large hotel group calle 'Three Cities' which has a very high standard in both Administration and Structure//contents. this hotel has recently gone through a 'divorce' with this group??!!
herewith the saga in the shortest possible version:
-in March booked 7 twin rooms and 2 singles - got confirmation and good rates in writing with no request for payment.
- 12 May they call and double the rates!!! after 'words' they agree to hold the rates if we pay within 3 days - which we do by credit card and get a confirmation from them.
- two days before arrival they cancel the reservation!! - due to no payment and more 'words' follow!!!
- they re-instate the booking but with one single less due to one of the rooms being'unserviceable - but offer a suite - but we must pay the difference??!! - more 'words'!!!!
- one day before departure we are informed that now they have no more singles so we MUST take two suites for the single and pay in for BOTH!!!!???
No amount of 'words' could change their minds and we were told to "pay or not stay"!!!
Herewith the reason - when first quoted to us they did not realise that there was a HUGE sporting event and that the whole city would be booked up and that all hotels double the rates due to this event. - Hence we HAD to pay up - not very 'sporting' of him!!
We tried every type of association we could think of and no-one could assist - so this crook of an owner got the better of us and got away with it!!! we were so disillusioned as we had followed ALL of his documentation meticulously.
