From the host to the owners to the helpers, everything was great! I will definitely be booking there in the near future.

the breakfast was excellent but the surprise breakfast on our last day was most enjoyable.

There are many B&B's in the umhlanga area, however, not many have the warmth and character of this gem. The hosts are always welcoming and accommodating. We have stayed at this establishment about 4 years and as our family has grown, so they have adapted to our needs. Now a family of 5, with 3 very busy and curious kids, this spot is ideal for us.

myself and my partner stayed at the rising sun guest house New Years 2015/2016 for about three nights. As this was a last minute booking, accommodation was quite scarce in durban at reasonable prices. We Paid R700 per night at this guesthouse. It was absolutely horrid. Very uncomfortable stay.
We stayed in the room which was right next to the kitchen, which meant that thye mornings were always noisy.

This wasnt even my main concern, the owners did not tell me that my room did not have a shower, instead it only had a tiny bath. I did not come on holiday to wash my hair in a tub!!!

The actual guesthouse was a rather old setup, not modern at all. we were not even free to sit where we pleased for breakfast as the owners has strict rules of where we needed to be seated, and it just so happens that we had to sit in the sun.

There were even comments from the owners about us using too much toilet paper when we requested another roll. I found that to be very unprofessional and quite embarrassing.

Im not sure how the other rooms were, but we had a box tv and very old furniture in our room. Definitely wouldnt reccomend this guesthouse to anyone.

Stayed with Kathryn and Roger for two weeks returning home yesterday. what a difference arriving in England at 1 deg C after leaving Durban at 28 deg C.

The rising sun is a large guest house with 6 rooms, hard to know which would be the best as all are different.. Kathryn takes great care in choosing and catering for each guests requirements

The welcome from both of them was as warm as the weather and more!! couldnt have been looked after better if it was a 5 star hotel. The view from all the rooms are amazing, overlooking the gardens, swimming pool and the Indian ocean . spoke to several of the guests and saw Kathryn and Roger making sure that all their needs and wants were catered for .

Breakfasts are full English with a South African twist, packed lunches are available and evening meals can be pre-booked. meals were fantastic. The rooms are well proportioned and kept clean and well supplied with linen. tea and coffee were in plentiful supply and each room has a fridge. Well stocked bar with verandah for sundowners.

Local shops are nearby, taxis can be arranged to get to hypermarket nearby and into Umhlanga and Durban. Even saw Roger doing airport runs for guests.

All in all, I cant think a place i'd rather be .If you are going to Durban I defy you to find better value for money >
