The hotel was spotlessly clean, tastefully designed, luxurious and the service was commensurate. There were many details and clear evidence which reflected the host's care and consideration for his visitors. All the accoutrements were of the highest quality. The style, design and colouring of the furnishings and decor was taseful and aesthetically pleasing as though one had walked into the glossy pages of an upmarket magazine!
And the house itself was charming - with Victorian nostalgia and at the same time quietly sophisticated and modern. The two ladies and host who were in attendance 24/7 saw to our every need. Apart from the hotel being in a leafy up-market area, on the Berea we were extremely close to everything - the renowned Durban beaches, the arty/vibey Florida Road and close to the freeway that goes to Umhlanga Rocks and the airport.
I cannot recommend this boutique hotel highly enough. I cant wait to return to Durban!

We had a lovely time. The staff were great and loved the swimming pool. Staying there felt like you were away from the city but in fact it was very central. Good location as there are a number of cafes and restaurants nearby. We loved it..Thank you to all who made our stay very comfortabke

Very surprised when I entered. Immediate assistance with my luggage. Quick service at reception with credit card a credit charge. Breakfast is basic but covers all the essentials. The tv channels selection is horrible. It's probably the worst I've seen anywhere in SA. The room is nicely equipped with a 40" tv, with nothing to watch. Parking is comfortable with a gated section behind the hotel. No wifi password given on arrival and no one at reception desk after 10pm. So with nothing to watch on tv, and with no wifi, I got an early night...A bit noisy being just off the main road with some loud cars flying by. Overall, lovely spacious rooms, decent bathrooms etc. will stay here again, just Dort out the tv and wifi...

Located in a colonial-style house in Morningside, this boutique hotel overlooks the lights of Durban, the casino and beaches. Very welcoming staff who were most attentive. Our room was on the ground floor, it was spacious and very comfortable. Despite being close to a road, we were never bothered by traffic noise at night and slept wonderfully well. The room opened onto a large patio with lots of comfortable seating. Pool with sunbeds was on the garden level. Breakfast was on the lower deck and was a little disappointing. Otherwise, if we return to Durban we would certainly stay there again. Florida Road with its many restaurants is within easy, safe walking distance. Recommend Butcher Boys' for Chateaubriand. Easy drive to the beach or Botanic gardens, where we recommend the buggy tour with Vishnu.

We actually ended up staying at this place because we first stayed at its sister hotel, Andaluz Hotel, which was awesome. I will discuss that hotel towards the end of this review. But, for now, I will discuss the amazing Salsabeel. It has an incredible view of the city from the living room, it is close to the popular Florida Road, and the property is probably about double in size (than its sister hotel) with a swimming pool. The pictures on the website are a very accurate representation of the property. Here is a link to the website for Salsabeel: http://www.salsabeel.co.za/

We thought that there was no way our stay in Durban could get better than the experience we had at Andaluz...but, as it turns out, as amazing as Andaluz is, Salsabeel, is just as amazing...and, if you have the extra money to spend, I hate to say it (because Andaluz is great), Salsabeel is better! As the others review have said, this hotel will never be forgotten and one of the best ones I have had out of about the 25 countries I have visited (which usually includes me visiting anywhere between 3-6 cities per country).

The house is completely gated. You cannot even see it from the street, which is nice, as it made us feel very secure. The decor is very elegant and modern throughout the hotel. But, there are a few places in the hotel where they have kept the original pieces of the house to show what the house used to look like, which gives it such a nice and warm feeling. The rooms and bathrooms are very nice and spacious. The rooms have water in them as well as the ability to make coffee and tea. The room we stayed in had a full kitchen, which was the original kitchen in the house. So, this room would be perfect for a family or anyone staying for a while. It was definitely an added bonus. Speaking of added bonus. Our room had a door that opened up into an adorable patio with a fountain. The views at this house are ones are wonderful!!!

The breakfast here is yummy...and, included with the room rate. They have a cute indoor breakfast room. But, they also have a long table right outside of that room on the patio if you decide you want to eat outside. Although they have things out already when you come down for breakfast, if you want something that is not out, you can let them know and they will get it and or make it for you...with a smile on their face too. The staff (which consists of both males and females) is extremely friendly and attentive. Any time we asked the staff for anything, they did not hesitate or blink to get us what we wanted. In fact, they were often running to get it. This staff aims to please its guests. You should take time to speak to them, as it definitely made our experience in Durban incredible.

I also had the greatest pleasure to meet the owner of the hotel. WOOOOOOW! After meeting the owner, I realized the owner probably personally trained his staff on to treat his guests. Literally, he is one of the sweetest and most genuine people that I have met in a while. He is so easy to talk to and down to earth. He was so helpful in providing us with information during our stay in Durban. Being able to meet and interact with the owner and his staff one of the biggest highlights of the time that I spent in Durban. It is definitely the thing I will probably remember the most about the time that I was there in Durban.

I cannot say enough good things about this place, the people that work there, or the person that owns it! I would stay here again in a heart beat...and, its sister hotel, Andaluz, as my experience as Andaluz was just as incredible. I stayed at Andaluz for a few night before and at Salsabeel for 2 nights after Andaluz. So, if you are looking for a cheaper place to stay than Salsabeel, you can stay at Salsabeel's sister hotel, Andaluz. The pictures on the website are a very accurate representation of the property. Here is the link for Andaluz: http://www.andaluz.co.za/

We stayed at Salsabeel for just under a week during Christmas 2016 and new year with our 2 little girls. The staff were friendly and the family room was comfortable and just what we needed. Loved the beautiful decor and well maintained hotel. Location was perfect as we were close to the bustling Florida Road and beaches.

Spectacular views and very relaxing!

Certain areas of the room are very dirty. Place is smelly. Cat urine! Terrible breakfast, the dry mince was off and caused cramps. Weak filter coffee. Had to fight to get price that was confirmed telephonically. Owners overcharged! No rooibos tea and terrible coffee sachets imported from the middle east.

Nice location
Great views of Durban City and Sea view.
Cordial staff.
Lovely room. I stayed at room 203.
Only issue was the wifi, I had no Internet connection.

I left early the next morning, not enough time to try out the breakfast.
