i originally chose the Regal Inn as it is easy-walking distance to the ICC. Thankfully, it proved to be an excellent choice. My room was a fair size and very clean. The DSTV and air-conditioning were both unexpected surprises that worked well. The hotel is well-run and felt safe. There is no hotel bar although there is a sitting area.
The breakfasts were always halal and some items such as mutton sausages were novel. The breakfast had a basic theme but was slightly different every day. There is no dining room for lunch-time or evening meals. However, I soon realised that we were very close to the North Beach area that has many fast food outlets and restaurants.
The Regal Inn is on the circuit for the airport shuttle and there is a nearby taxi firm. It's also close to two different loops of the public bus system that is modern and felt safe.
The Regal Inn is affordable, comfortable accomodation that is in a good location within Central Durban.

After a terrible experience at the Grange Garden hotel in Morningside durban I had to look for another hotel where I could check in early morning. I found Regal inn and it is centrally located in a good area just 2 minutes from the North Beach. I booked a standard room and I found it too small for my liking. Only 2 pillows on the double bed which was a first for me. I couldn't open the curtains or window during my stay since the only windows I had were facing the parking lot and construction workers were also that side. I tried switch rooms since I was supposed to stay for 2weeks and wanted a more comfortable free room but I was told,"Hotel policy states if you want to change rooms you have to check out at 10am tomorrow morning then check in at 2pm, we can store your luggage in the luggage room". I found that totally unreasonable and also a 1st in all the hotels i have stayed in because it simply meant i was going to have to sit in the hotel lobby or be in the streets for 4hrs! Next morning I was woken up by extreme noise coming from my window which was a few footsteps from my bed, the construction workers were engaging in an conversation whilst some were on my floor whilst some where on an upper floor. I couldn't stay the expected 2weeks and cut my stay to 5 days because changing rooms seems like a mission in this place. The shower or the doors needs to be fixed because as I was showering you would come out and the bathmat will be soaked in water as if you had dipped it in a bucket. It is however a clean hotel with free wifi only in the reception.

Stayed here during Indaba 2013 which was hosted at the Durban ICC. Rooms were basic but comfortable, bathrooms clean & rooms serviced daily. Air con & DStv were an added bonus. Morning breakfast was passable if a little expensive for what it was. Friendly staff and good value for money. Wouldn't come here on a family weekend or holiday but was fine for business basics.

Don't visit this hotel. There are sharp objects in their basement parking. My tyre bursted in their parking. The manager promised to reimburse the tyre damage cost. It's been a month and he ignores my calls and never gets back to me. The hotel is also not clean. Waste of money !!

Shocking service from the front desk.
The laundry was stained. There was no shampoo. The breakfast was awful and cost R65.
No refunds if you want to leave early, probably because no one stays more than one night!
Never ever again!
Laundry picture is attached.

Stayed at the Regal Inn. Definitely was clean and very much worth the money, but was woken up by construction workers just outside my window at 7am on a Saturday after a 7 hour drive. The Manager even reminded me that for the money i paid, what was i expecting. There was no mention of the construction taking place by the hotel during my booking. Sneaky tactics just to make money. The stay became quite unpleasant and I decided to ask for a refund for the second night - did not return!

In all honesty, why are there not more reviews on this AWESOME hotel?

Location? Durban Beach Front, walking distance to sand, surf, sea and Suncoast Casino if needs be.

Rates: Unbelievably good, plus its per room not per person, which makes a HUGE difference.

Rooms: I loved the bed, and the TV has the basic DSTV Hotel package, my only complaint would be that I asked for a smoking room, and my view was of the back of the Hotel? Would have loved a balcony view. Also the shower doors need some maintenance.

Staff: BRILLIANT! Upon check in, I met with several receptionist and one of the Managers who helped me through the process and explained what facilities were available and what weren't. Check in was speedy, and efficient and I was a walk in guest.

Cleaniness: The Hotel is Clean and really ship shape.

Would I Return: I am trying to think up excuses as we speak.

Suggestions: The ONLY suggestions I have for this hotel, is to start providing a room service facility, or at least a mini bar in the rooms. This really does make a huge difference in ones stay esp if you are staying alone, one has to leave the hotel to find something to drink or eat and it can be quite inconvenient.

Thanks, I will be back :-)

We were woke up every night by the other clients. Also in the afternoon the staff made such a noise we could not relax. The room was not cleaned next day before 2.30PM .The hotel doesn't have lift. This hotel is extremely noisy, you hear everything. There is no isolation between the rooms .Also the staff is very noisy and unprofessional. We were looking for Manager on duty there was non. The rooms don't have:soap, shampoo, nor haidryers. There i s no ice machine ,no cold sparkling mineral water in the hotel reception. We left after 2 nights ,we were very tired and very dissapointed. We asked for refund-which we didn't receive. .I spoke later telephonically to a very rude unproffesional hotel manager she doesn't know how to handle customer's complains. She was very incompetente and unhelpful
