I went with my mini family and had a great time. Despite the whether condition, we utilized the time to do activities we could for the 14 days we spent their. Any place of relaxation / holiday is as good as the people granting you refuge and hospitality. In a long time now i haven't gone to any B&B, hotels etc. and find great Souls such as Jenny, Vivian and the helpers. My family and i are absolutely grateful for the moment and great memories created. We came back with the most expensive gifts that we received Rivendell / Durban from peace, love, harmony, hospitality, kindness, support, tranquility yes intangible yet very rich and exorbitant and will remain unerasable for years to come. I am definitely coming back soon.

Spent 3 nights for a work meeting and was my 1st time here whilst other colleagues have been previously. Very friendly and homey feel. Room comfortable with bar fridge tea and coffee supplies and fresh milk in the fridge. Chrissie was extrememy warm kind and accommodating..going out of her way making our last evening there feel like being at home! She provided us with extra blankets to sit in the lounge; wine glasses and snacks which was totally unexpected and so very kind of her. Thank you so much Chrissie. You are a star!

The establishment was very beautiful. The bedrooms were very simple and quaint with all the basics. Very impressed with owners, I complained about my bed, and by the next day, found they had replaced it with a brand new bed! Clearly they do aim to please! Thank you so much

Our room was not at all like the pictures on the web. The tv dates from the 70's a real antique. I did not know you still find these in working order. The bed must be from more or less the same period. The room overall in my opinion is a 2 but maybe a 3star. Everything including the bathroom is old. How this B&B was ever rated a 4 star I dont know, and we have stayed in many places to know a 4 star from a 2 star. I will not recommend this B&B to anyone.

The rooms, sheets and general decor are in serious need of a refurb. The duvets were threadbare and pillows very old. Also rom 4 smelt strongly of damp. The website photos do not reflect the condition of the property and I do not feel it is worthy of a 4-star rating.

Response from Mark L, Owner at Rivendell Bed and Breakfast
Responded 20 Mar 2016
Dear Candice, Thank you for your very constructive comments. My apologies for this belated response but both Penny and I have been away for month. Cognizance was taken and the following remedial action carried out: 1). New flat screen TV's throughout. 2). New linen replaced in all rooms from pillows, pillow cases, sheets & duvet covers. 3). We have had the handyman in and painting has been done where necessary. On investigation, the damp smell was brought about due to the linen being ironed before being 100% dry. Direction in this regard has been given for future. Please call me on my cell 083 232 4353 to discuss any other issues you might have had as it is my duty and responsibility to rectify these. I do hope you will visit Rivendell B&B again and see for yourself the improvements made as detailed above. My thanks again. Kind regards, Mark.

I was on a business visit in Hillcrest recently and was booked in at Rivendell B&B. Everything is spotlessly clean and in good working order. Friendly staff and fast complimentary wifi rounded off a great experience.

Lovely reception and welcoming area with beautifully kept, clean rooms. The staff are friendly and accommodating - thank you Storm and Jan for the scrumptious breakfast you prepared us. The breakfast area is beautifully furnished with lots of windows making you want to linger a little longer. Unlike some of the other b&bs Rivendel is true their pictures published on the net.

First off Laurette is a great host, who went out of her way to assist with a late check-in etc. She was very helpful with suggestions of where to go and what to see and experience too. My colleague had left his jacket behind after checkout and Laurette arranged everything to have it returned again.
The rooms are comfy enough and have tea/coffee milk etc and a fridge. The bathroom has a shower head in the bath with an immovable plastic shield to prevent water getting everywhere when using the shower which is great but it does make things a touch difficult getting in and out of the bath.
Breakfast is both hot and and cold with the usual selection. Hot breakfasts are made on order and you can decide what it is you want that morning.
All in all a great place in a quiet neighbourhood with secure parking on premises.

We came to Hillcrest because of a family tragedy. Chrissy and Laurette (night and day managers) were so kind and accommodating. Our rooms were spotlessly clean and the breakfasts were well done and helped us through the 3 days we were there. All the staff were friendly and helpful. There were 9 of us and 3 tiny babies. Nothing was too much for us. I highly recommend Rivendell B & B.
