It's managed by the local community for the past couple of years. No accommodation and the tented camp is 'under renovation' for a long time.... 😒 Okay to drive around and visit the picnic site and the dam wall. Apparently canoeing is possible.

We looked for a picnic spot to spend with the kids. We enjoyed a great day at the dam. We went out on the dam in the canoe and enjoyed the tranquility. The only downside was that the bathrooms didn't really have toilet paper and was not clean. I can recommend this spot for a picnic.

Going to the dam and visiting the old castle like structure was amazing and the dam is breathtaking. It's beautiful. Driving through the game Reserve is just amazing. Really just perfect to do with friends. We did abseiling, rock climbing kayaking at spirit of adventure and also other water avtigities. and the dam looks like it belongs in paradise. It's very quiet and serene it does feel like paradise. There were a lot of monkeys so be careful!

It was great to visit the dam and game reserve. I did the abseiling over the dam with Spirit of Adventures. These guys are so helpful and professional. We also did a hiking trail called love bench and the nature there is simply amazing.

I have made many trips to Shongweni Dam and have enjoyed every experience, be it a picnic trip or stay over at the tented camps. If you are a nautre lover and enjoy the rustic experience, then this venue will be a treat.

Great place to spend a night or two. Awesome cabins right on the water. Monkeys are a bit of a pain.(take a water gun) Safari tent has everything needed. Loved it, relaxing and would return again and again.

This place has rustic but clean Tent/cabins to rent that are great for a night or two. On the water, and right in the game reserve. Our guided tour was awesome. We couldn't help but laugh at the very entertaining and smart monkeys that came to visit and take food. We found our three days there to be peaceful and quiet, (other than then monkeys waking us up early in the morning). The grounds were very clean and well kept. And the locals who were there having a gathering for the day next to us were friendly. It is a get away for locals, so best to book during the week like we did to avoid the extra crouds and noise

Shongweni Dam is a good place to escape from the city for the day. Very close to Durban. Has braai areas, fishing, jungle gym, trampoline, and canoes for hire.. Kids loved the canoes and had hours of fun on the dam. A very relaxing place to spend the day,.

Peaceful and minutes from the beach. True, if you pilot a helicopter. it's a good 45mins inland from Durban.Advised to just bring food, everything else provided. Arrived to find many items N0T in the tent. Advised them but just got a "yes we know" response. The electricity supply to the tent was tempermental and dangerous. 2 ladies showers provided for the whole tented camp had crumbling floors, a real health hazard.Saturday had a teambuilding a few feet from our tent and Sunday had a youth programme that culminated in screaming and chanting for an hour in the evening. Both were organised , couldn't they have warned us? So much for the promised tranquility. The self guided nature walk is not well marked and you need to be fit as it is a challenge. Serious management problems need addressed.…
