Tv, aircon, room phone...all not working. Getting a 2nd bath towel for 2 guests took a day. Torn curtain ...delipidated and disappointing. Any past glory days are gone. When did it last get any star rating?

For the price of less than $30, where do you find a central hotel, clean bedding, crispy towels, comfortable bed, bar fridge, toiletries, tea & coffee. I think the Durban Manor is extremely good value for money and yes, it is past its prime of when it was known as the Durban Club where the best heeled gentry of Durban could be found lunching every day. Nevertheless, the history found in the architecture of this wonderful heritage building can not be found elsewhere. All this nonsense of spooks and ghosts that people have written is clearly from untraveled people who have never experienced anything else other than a standard roadside type of chain branded hotel. I must say I don't see people carrying luggage in many of thsoe either so not sure where that gripe comes in. What do they expect to find for $30.

From my personal business travel, this is a bargain establishment and I will most definitely recommend it to everyone that I can and will use it regularly as it needs our support to help it get the revamp that it needs and to restore and preserve its wonderful heritage.

Perfectly located in durban, old but clean but unfortunately poor service. Took about one hour to get our rooms - aircon was not working for hours, no towels, etc.

Didn't have breakfast, no feedback possible.

So look, we weren't expecting to be blown away to begin with right...but what a DISAPPOINTMENT! I'm not one to write these but I feel it a duty to warn anyone looking to stay here especially since I thought the reviews below were exaggeration but these people are telling the truth (how true is that comment about the shower alwas being too hot or too cold). Can't complain about the food, it was ok, & the place is generally clean but the carpets really need steam cleaning people! Staff service almost non existent, staff who don't greet u unless u greet first (that was a first) and look annoyed when you ask anything, old rickety lifts, remotes that don't work. Had to ask for an iron & ironing board twice. We were a couple but only got one bath towel, had to ring for an extra towel TWICE as well and eventually got a towel reaking of vinegar...while we were down at breakfast the next day someone fetched the towels (probably to wash them) but what if we hadn't bathed or showered before we went down and probably had to ask twice again and wait a long while for towels, again? The photos on the website are REALLY misleading and highly likely photo shopped because what you actually see is a place really run down in need of SOOO much work. Because of the vintage look and antique furniture, I suppose it would be a gem if they fixed it up, cleaned the carpets and restored the furniture. Also, 'located in city centre' really is 'city centre', you see nothing but buildings around you when you look at the window (our room was on the side of the building not 'distant bay' facing, wish I knew that beforehand). We really just went to the room to sleep because its not exactly a place you want to lounge about in. It was sad to see and discover far better accommodation at the same and slightly better prices a day before we left though so believe me people, you can find better place to stay at the same prices or better. Rather don't go here unless u just want a place to lay your head at night and don't care what you get bt hey, this is my humble opinion. Different strokes for different folks

The hotel is faded and in need of a revamp, but like an aged actress it retains a certain nostalgic glamor that makes it worth the visit. Spent several night here and loved it. The rooms aren't as large or modern as some other hotels in Durban, but they're clean and comfortable and the building itself has a certain character. We loved the 'spooky' atmosphere in the evenings after a drink at the bar, which closes at 10pm.

Bad experience. Whilst you showering u get cold water or its too hot. The door to the balcony on the ocean side did not lock properly. It felt dirt mildew could be seen in the bathroom. Only security left in the evening. It felt like u could meet anytime with a ghost whilst walking in the corridor. The breakfast was pathetic, if u late for breakfast u get gold food.

Where do I begin about this hotel ? When we reached at about 10:30 PM the first shock was when we realized there's no one to carry our luggage to the rooms. We were two families with two small kids & had to carry all the luggage with the kids. The lone receptionist heaved a big sigh of relief after seeing us because she was waiting for us to check in so that she can leave !!! Probably the first hotel I stayed with no one to take care of the guests in the night except the security. The room was a victorian era type with huge doors, windows & curtains covering them giving it a ghostly look. The breakfast had nothing much to offer with everything kept in 100 year old dishes which were falling apart as we touch them. The bar was also not something worth to be mentioned of with few bottles of wine kept in display but nobody to drink them. There is no room service & no one to take care of your needs post evening. We stayed two nights here but they were the most horrifying nights we ever had in a hotel for a long time. Not at all recommended.

Once upon a time, this must have been spectacular, and from the front. it still looks the part. Sadly, its time is long gone, and it is badly in need of a revamp to restore its to the hotel it could be. What lifted it from its dingy morass were the staff, who must have been disheartened by the non-stop battle against a tide of niggling problems -- sink plugs that didn't fit and the like -- but never let it show and even managed to get the wifi working -- eventually.
That said, the staffing is strange; there are so many on duty at breakfast it was almost one per guest, but only two during the rest of the day and the bar (which is poorly stocked anyway) closes at 10pm so that the last of the hotel staff can go home, leaving only the night security guard on duty.
Not much around to do, so expect to add the cost of a taxi for food, drink or other entertainment.
Still, for the price we paid, what can you expect? It was fundamentally clean, just a bit dingy, tired and faded.

Unfortuanetly, we were booked in by a Travel agency. It was too late at night to go and seek other accommodation. The access to the hotel looks and smells terrible.
The bathroom does not have a shower, but a removable shower head. Then you have to wait 10min for the hot water. The mixer is broken, and the water was then too hot or ice cold. The Rooms were beautiful and big, but did not make up for the poor view of the old dilapidated hotel buildings.
The place is really old, and they have stunning furniture, but maintenance is non-existing.
The dining room is full of BLACK spider webs in the roof. And the value for the breakfast was appauling!
The bar did not even have the correct tumblers or mixers!
Friendly staff was the only good thing that was there.

The facility is conveniently situated close to the harbour, the beach, uShaka Marine, shopping malls and is very affordable. The room was clean and well equipped. I wouldn't hesitate to book another stay at the Durban Manor.
