Originally the home of Corobrick founder Robert Storm who built it in 1892, the guesthouse is steeped in Durban history and retains much of its old world charm. The 15 bedrooms are individually decorated in a classically elegant style with some having a view over the century's old St James church while others look over the hotel's peaceful garden patio. Being close to the trendy eateries of Florida Road, Durban's beachfront, major sports stadiums (Kings Park and Moses Mabhida Football Stadium), golf courses and Jameson and Mitchell Parks means all Durban's attractions are just a short drive away. The guesthouse is ideal for small meetings, conferences and private dinners and is well equipped to ensure business runs smoothly and efficiently. For business guests, the guesthouse is well-placed for access to the ICC, as well as quick freeway access to the Umhlanga Ridge precinct.

From the moment you walk in, you know you're in an environment where you're about to rest in comfort. Room is large and bed is comfortable. Staff is so helpful. Breakfast is divine. Location is ideal and very close to Florida Road so there's a variety of delivery options on apps.

This is by far me and my partner's favourite hotel. The staff was so friendly, the rooms looked just as great as the pictures, and the hotel's aesthetic just naturally gave off a private, quiet, intimate, and romantic vibe. the only thing that was a con I'd say is that there were no bar fridges in the rooms, which i feel is a must when it comes to self-catering hotels. Overall though, we are definitely booking here again!

The room was spacious, beautiful, clean and fresh. Breakfast & coffee was average but the garden view made up for it. It was a warm and friendly place I’ll return to when I’m in Durban again. The only bug bear was the people who stayed in the room above me, they made a bit of noise when they moved around. The sound travels with the wooden floors and doors.

Bridal shower held on 5 December 2020, below email sent to owner and to this date (28/12/2020) no response:
• None of your staff and waiters were wearing masks
• No temperature checks were completed on guests upon on arrival or sanitisation requests
• Your staff clearly told me they had no proper tablecloths due to a function the night before.
• My guests arrived before the tea cups, cutlery and food did
• I had to beg for Sam and the waiters to get things done, such as getting an extra table to house all the food, tablecloth, dishes, cutlery, food and of course to keep wearing a mask when entering our room, Sam even had the audacity at 3.15pm to me to calm down as it was getting done…note this is 1hrs and 15min after my function started
• Food arrived that was not ordered by us but I had to just accept it.
• Food that was requested to be vegetarian was not. Imagine yourself biting into a pork samosa after requesting it to not be pork…this is exactly what happened to my vegetarian cousin who bit into a chicken samosa after me requesting it to be vegetarian
• When Sam, the manager, the chef and the staff were questioned they played the usual blame game and no one could provide me with a proper answer, and Vusi was blamed.
• Regarding pastries only 1 of them was requested to be eggless and yet all of them turned out to be eggless
• Everyone was sceptical of the scones as they had the golden top as if brushed with eggs when baked but I was assured it was eggless
• When the tea cups arrived they were mismatched with some mugs arriving and everything was dirty so the waiter had to stand in the room while my function was going on and wipe them down
• Coffee jugs and boiled water came through and as usual we had to ask for milk and teabags and sugars, please bear in mind again that this was a high tea function
• The door was another pain point in our function as the lock bar was sticking out therefore it could not be closed fully and when asked Sam said he did not have the key
• We had requested to see Vusi before we left and that also could not be arranged
The best service I did receive was when I wanted takeaway containers, those arrived immediately because it seemed like the staff couldn’t wait to get rid of us.
Overall a very disappointing experience and not a place I would recommend to anyone.

I did not enjoy my stay at all. The pictures posted were much nice than the Hotel itself. When i was greeted at the door the hostess was on the phone the entire time while welcoming me and showing me to my room. The rooms didn't feel very clean, especially the shower. The bed didn't even have a fitted sheet on it, a standard sheet was covering the mattress with no top sheet, only a duvet.

We spent nearly two weeks in room #8 right at the top of the first flight of stairs. The room was clean, large and generally quiet. We especially liked the "no alcohol" policy of the hotel, which made things mellow. The hotel in general could use some sprucing up, but what needs to be tended to are generally minor things. A very nice place to stay. Would we stay there again? Absolutely, yes, most definitely.

Little consideration given to a pleasant stay. A faulty fire alarm kept us awake between 1-3am. During loadshedding, every passage and every room in darkness - zero power backup. Friendly, understaffed, under-trained, under resourced

Our stay was good in overall. great internet connection as I could work from there without any interruption and well done on backup during loadshedding.

However, the gate opening was a problem as guests have to call a number that never answer in order for them to open, sometimes we would stay 10min outside, which is very dangerous. The breakfast was great, unfortunately I booked for 2 people but your record or booking showed 1 person. The room was clean, but we found a small spider and few insects on 1 pillow on day 1, I left Durban with insects bites.

The staff I came in contact with, especially receptionists, were extremely nice and helpful. Nice neighborhood but unfortunately not walking distance to the beaches as I had hoped but that was a total misconception on my part when reading the hotel description. Its doable with Uber however.

Manager and staff are friendly and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Rooms are tastefully decorated and beds are comfortable. The restaurant at the hotel wasn't open so we were referred to their sister establishment, the Antique Café. Breakfast was delicious. Overall I highly recommend this hotel.

No pool, but a lovely terrace with a water feature, where meals may be enjoyed. There is also a herb garden through which one can stroll, alongside an ancient fig tree.
