Our room was spacious and very clean. Beautifully (minimalist) decorated. I requested twin beds and were given 2 3/4 beds which was brilliant! Staff were very friendly and the secure parking is a bonus.

I found this hotel okay, and I thought the service was fine.
The breakfast was good, and there was usually someone at the desk, except at night. I had a room towards the back, so did not have a noise problem from the main road. The comments about the rickety stairs is true, and I could hear the TV and folks talking in the room next door. Overall I agree with Clare B's review.
My main comment is that it is fine, but I would not call this a "boutique" hotel, because although it is small, it is neither intimate (where you get to know the owners/ managers), nor luxurious. It is just a functional small hotel. If on a business trip again, I might stay here again. The parking at the back is convenient. If I ever came with my family I would stay somewhere more homely and kid-friendly.

Flew into Durban for graduation, but a mix-up with our original hotel left us stranded. Fortunately we found the Andaluz, a charming building but one that definitely shows its age. Now let's start with the good!

Shared a room with my mum and was pleasantly surprised to find we had plenty of space. Two big beds, a beautiful bathroom that obviously took up a lot of their budget, and a little living room complete with TV (limited to five channels though; two only showing football). There was also a creaky old balcony with a nice view of the neighbourhood.

Cute tea and coffee set up, with a mini-fridge...

As for the rest, they say the devil is in the details, and that is where the Andaluz was lacking. The ceiling is water-damaged, there were stains on some of the towels and the duvet (being optimistic, I think it was paint or ink). Also some kind of dent in the floor that almost tripped us up twice. Strong air-con but Wi-fi was spotty and kept dropping...

The entrance to the building looks like it should be the back. Lots of boxes and construction bits stacked everywhere as if it's someone's garage (thankfully the lobby is lovely).

Staff were nice enough, but not the most attentive or switched on. We were disappointed to hear they didn't serve dinner and if there were breakfast options nobody told us. When we went out at 07:00 the next day we found reception closed, nobody home. Any hotel worth its salt should always have somebody at the front desk, especially early morning. We just wanted to leave our room key but if we'd been wanting to check out that could've been stressful...

All in all, better than expected considering the desperate last minute scramble.

I felt conned arriving at this hotel. I've stayed in many boutique hotels and this is cannot be classified as such. I can't believe it is rated 4 star. As I drove through to the parking area I was greeted by dish towels and socks over walls and what seemed to be a staff quarters. The hotel smelled of food, they wanted my credit card details even though I made an EFT. The rooms are dark and gloomy and there is no fridges in the rooms. My room opened up to the backyard and I could hear someone spitting the whole afternoon, while I was trying to fall asleep . No mirrors in rooms, except for bathrooms. The hotel is only run by males. No females in sight, except for the cooking lady. Don't get me wrong, the rooms were extremely clean, the staff were very friendly and very helpful. The beds were spacious and comfortable and had feather down duvets. The hotel is close to most of Durban's biggest attractions and is probably ok value for money. I would say, ideally suited for a male business traveller or men with families. But that said, this is not what one expects when a hotel is advertised as a boutique hotel and rated 55th out of 212 B&B's in Durban.

The hotel is best suited for guests who are halaal. The food selection is limited to halaal foods. Breakfast has no variety. The only coffee available is of Arabic origin. The staff are friendly. The owner engages you to find out if you need anything. I only booked there as every other place was fully booked. That should tell you something. The place just has a cheap feel to it. The TV dazzles.Only one dstv channel being super sport. I took advantage of free WiFi. If u need a place to just sleep then this is perfect. If you require something more from your accomodation then this is not the place for you.

Having stayed at quite a few Boutique Hotels across the country - I can confidently state that this establishment should rather be viewed as a Budget hotel and not a Boutique hotel. Despite the friendliness of staff trying their best - the following areas of the hotel needs improvement. The entrance mat at the reception area was tattered and torn and needs to be replaced. Do be aware that the stairs to the rooms which are all on the first floor is quite narrow and steep - so be careful when hauling your luggage upstairs. I would suggest small mats next to the side of the bed as the tiled floors are quite cold when getting out of the bed. The bathroom is quite small and one almost has to climb over the toilet to get into the shower. There is room for extending the toilet if the wall next to the toilet is broken down - to provide more space. I was extremely disappointed with the tea-bags provided in the room not being wrapped in individual covers - but seemed as if they had just been taken loosely from a a tea box and placed in the room. Being a light sleeper - I could not only hear the gentleman snoring in the room next to mine, but was also woken by early morning traffic due to the hotel being located in a busy area. I would find it difficult to recommend this hotel to corporates.

This place is the worst hotel I've ever been to, you are greeted by unprofessionalism as soon as you enter, their food options is only limited to halal.Poor maitenance of rooms is the order of the day,the shower door and TV of the room I was given wasnt working and nobody bothered attending to it even after being reported. Such a waste of money.
