I spent 6 nights at Curiocity Durban - I originally booked 3 nights and added another 3 nights because I was unable to join a tour that had wait-listed me and joined another tour that started 3 days later from Durban.

I was very pleased with the attentiveness, helpfulness, friendliness, and dedication to providing excellent service from the entire staff of this hostel. The 8 bed dorm rooms are extremely large and have access to a balcony. Large lockers under the bottom bunk easily accomodated my 2 bags.

The hostel is located in a decent neighborhood and is 3 blocks from a supermarket and 5 blocks from Duban's South Beach section of the waterfront.

Highly recommended!

I arrived in the evening and was asked to join 30 Seconds Board game, that was so welcoming. I was staying in one of the mixed dorms, it was so much fun meeting new people. The bar is the fun part of Curiocity. I made so many new friends in my 3 nights stay, I am definitely going back.

Firstly we waited 4 hours for our room and the receptionist was so rude instead of apologising she kept on rolling her eyes. The cleaners don't know anything, they can't even understand simple English.

Curiocity JHB is one of the coolest places to hang out in the City of JHB, so of course when I heard that they will be opening up a branch in DBN, I was excited for the chance to check it out, On arrival I was greeted by the owner Bheki and the GM, Megan (one of the coolest humans I have met thus far), and soon I was greeted by the 2 other employees, also friendly and easy to chat to. My room was not the typical backpacker type of room, and quite honestly, they exceeded my expectations. The room was set up really lovely (with my fav chocolatets :) ) , and it was more like I was checking into a hotel of some sorts. My favourite part about my room, was the hammock outside the door of course :) It was such a smart idea to have such outside on the balconies of the rooms downstairs. We have had a great stay so far, with meeting different and fun people. I love the whole look of the place, it's quite different to the JHB Curiocity, and has more of a 'grown' look and feel to it, which is what I absolutely adore. I was their first official guest, and I 100% see myself coming back here quite often. Although they are still finishing up a few things, I see the vision and I am just as excited to view the final project and join in for the grand opening soon. I love it!! :)

We only stayed three night which was enough to explore what was around the area, it rained most the time so it was not enjoyable, Durban has a high drug problem and every ten steps some would ask for money loads of homeless but if you plan it right it’s can be a good stop off from joburg to cape town.

I stayed two nights in this fairly basic hostel as it was one of the few to have single rooms available but in the end they turned out to be small but you are only passing through for one night. There is a common area with tables and a balcony outside the bar where daily excursions are organized to which you can sign up last minute.

My first experience staying at a backpackers, and it was great! The big pink doorway started to feel like a home away from home really fast!

Clean and comfy rooms, chill-out courtyard, and a bar for a cold beer after a long day of walking and exploring. I had the single private room which was teeny-tiny and perfect.

The vibe is chatty and friendly and laid-back, not a raucous party crowd. Free breakfast every morning, on the balcony overlooking the street. Large well-stocked clean kitchen, in which some guests cooked their own supper, although I ordered take-aways each night night (making the best of Durban’s cuisine. I got to chat with plenty of other solo holiday-makers, and the wonderful friendly staff go out of their way to make you feel part of the Curiocity family, fixed me up with some restaurant tips and advice on how to get around Durban by bus.

Only one small downside: the location is not great. Yes, it’s within easy walking distance of the beach, and all the inner-city sights for an urban explorer – museums, beaches, the aquarium, the bus stop, the Workshop mall, all of it. But the street itself is a bit run-down, and like most other SA inner cities Durban is empty after dark, so if you want to go party all night you’ll need a car. If that doesn’t bother you (didn’t bother me!) then I can recommend Curiocity all the way!

Curiocity Durban was below average with stark unimaginative rooms.

The shared bathroom had tiles missing in the shower and I was concerned that I would cut my feet.

We tried to book the bike tour that was offered in an email. When we arrived we were informed that the bike tour was not available and the pushy receptionist repeatedly tried to sell us their pub crawl which was ludicrously overpriced at R300 and included a beer and 2 shots!

He offered us no information about Durban as he worked in Jo'burg normally. Eventually, he did introduce me to a colleague who gave us some useful tips.

Amusingly after we had returned to the hostel later, the receptionist asked us which bars we had been to and then took the pub crawl there.

There is a nice bar area (although the drinks are more expensive than the nicest areas of Durban)and the breakfast was good.

Its a Boutique Hostel, situated in a very beautiful building and is very well located near from beachs, restaurants and supermarket but thats is just the begining.
The crew is amazing, all the girls and the guys, are helpful and friendly.
My room was very comfortable.
The hostel provides activities to entertain the guests like cinema Movie Mondays, Salsa Tuesdays, Food Wednesdays, besides theres a full kitchen if you want to cook for u too to use for free, ( be a doll and wash your plates, they do it with pleasure but you arent traveling with your mama, are u? thats my observation, the hostel workers do all the service, including wash the dishes for guests)
The bar is amazing, with a balcony where you can do your reading or work in a very enjoyable ambience.
Its a great place to stay and make friends.
the bathrooms are very good too, the pressure of the water is amazing.
They provide a shuttle from and to the airport. Contact them for it, it's cheap and worth.
Anyway, i loved my stay at Curiocity Durban. I highly reccomend and really want to go back.
Thank you everyone of the staff for that. The girls from reception, the guys from the bar, the girls from the kitchen, thank u so very much.
