We found Lungy accidentaly as a tourgide for our bycicle tour in Soweto, but we were very pleased it happend like this. Lungy showed us a lot, but especialy learned us a lot about the history of Soweto. He realy toke time to tell us about this history and gave us insight in the daily life of some people in Soweto, wich was not easy. Sometimes confrontating to see how even the ANC government was not ok for the people living here.
I stayed there 3 nights and I really enjoyed every minute of it. Lungi, Cynthia and Aya really made me feel like at home. It's not a hostel like the other: being there, you really feel like you're part of the family. The accommodation is quit simple: the shower and toilets are outside, but everything works well. But really, this place is an hidden gem thank's to Lungi and his bicycle tour. He has so many stories to tell about the history of Soweto and the appartheid, make sure you book a tour with him and anyone else! Last thing is worth saying is that after spending more than 2 months in South Africa, I've never felt safer than in Soweto: people in the Streets are so friendly and smiling, they help you if you need, they never ask for money, they are curious and welcoming, children are polite and always want to talk with you! Go there! You won't regret!…
Longi and the whole family are incredibly welcoming, offering clean rooms with all the amenities of a large backpackers: full shared kitchen, hot showers, towels included and more. You must do the bike and lunch tour for an authentic, informative, and great morning activity. There are just 3 rooms, so you are guaranteed an interactive and welcoming experience. Your stay here is sure not to disappoint!
Really disappointed! Booked the "last room", got there and lights were off, phones were not picked up... Wow, that time there's no where I can go to, I've never felt this disappointed in my life! Shuuu
So glad we stayed with Lungi! We had to unexpectedly cut our two nights down to one because of a flight change. Really wish we could've stayed another night. From the moment Lungi picked us up from the airport to the moment he dropped us off, we learned so much! About South Africa, about Joburg, about Soweto, and about apartheid. We took the longer bicycle tour and I highly recommend it. Hanging out with Lungi was so fun and so informative. We LOVED his tour of Soweto--do the fou hour one if you have time. Apart from the tour, straying in his home was great--safe, cozy, everything we needed. Thank you Lungi, Cynthia, and Aya!
