HOTEL AND ROOMS.

It is a small but quite lovely hotel. The rooms are a perfect size and extremely well furnished. The bathroom is a little basic but nonetheless it was clean and everything functioned as it should. I however don't ever intend to spend massive amounts of time in a bathroom when travelling as I have much better things to do, so it wasn't a big deal for me.

BAR.

The bar has a great selection of drinks and when I received my bill at the end of the evening I felt like I had robbed the place. THIS PLACE IS VERY CHEAP! I have however, made one suggestion to the hotel, that is to have some speakers installed in the bar to play some non intrusive music to add to the atmosphere. That is a suggestion not a complaint I hasten to add.

DINING.

The foods menu is small but trust me, it's great food. There is also a specials menu each evening in addition to the standard al a carte.
The three meals I ate were the club sandwich, the sirloin steak and the pork chop. The Steak and pork chop were cooked to perfection and the club sandwich is probably the best I've eaten. The cheese board is a must. I ordered it to have in my room with some wine after I had finished dinner on the first night. It lasted me 3 evenings. Luckily, there is a fridge in the room.
If you fancy something other then what is on the menu, ask to talk to the chef he is eager to please and will accommodate you in any way he can.
Not only was the dinner extremely good, breakfast was exceptional too. Buffet style full English (kept fresh), small continental option and eggs cooked to order by a very smiley lady in the kitchen. Good quality meaty pork and beef sausages.

LOCATION.

Perfect! Sandton is fantastic, very safe area and this hotel is in a great part of town. There are shops and restaurants just five minutes walk away and much much all over town, all just a short drive away.
There is a shuttle service from the hotel, up to a certain distance, but that's enough to get you to the great drinking holes and restaurants of sandton, of which there are many. I recommend an evening in Mandela square.

GETTING THERE FROM THE AIRPORT.

I was given advice on the plane which I'm passing on to you. When you are through the necessary procedures at the airport, follow signs for the trains. It take 5 minutes to walk too. At the station you can buy a travel card, 300 rand should cover a return but ask a station attendant just in case. The train takes just fifteen minutes to Sandton station. From there, grab one of the many cabs from outside the station (or Uber). The hotel is a 5 minute drive away . In rush hour it would take over an hour by car from the airport and I should imagine, it would be quite costly.

TO CONCLUDE
This is a gem of a hotel. It has everything right in my opinion. The staff are truly amazing so please tip them well, they deserve it.

We were transferred from the airport to this hotel. On arrival we were greeted with a notice that the water supply was not working, however this was rectified relatively quickly. The hotels rooms are spacious clean and comfortable. The staff we encountered were very helpful. As we were only staying for one night it was a perfect overnight venue.

I was fortunate enough to get an early check-in. The place is old-world charming with dark furniture and heavy drapes. My sense was that it's primarily a hotel for business travelers. Staff were friendly when I checked in and I didn't even have to ask a porter for help. He simply whisked my bag away.
It was a perfectly ok hotel. Expensive though and a bit of a 'stuffy' atmosphere. Not somewhere I would take my kids. Average rating because it delivered on my expectations, was expensive. Probably wouldn't stay there again, but rather stay closer to Sandton City, where it's more central next time.

Havent been to the hotel for about two years or more.

The site is still wrll run and the staff were friendly and helpful!

Our room was to standard only the AC was quite noisy.

My only lacklustre moment was the breakfast. There was no jam at all but it appeared 20 minutes later into our brekfast. The waitresses could have also shown a bit more interest in our table as they only had four to cover.

Overall 8/10 but with the potential to be better. Satisfied!

I normally stay at their sister hotel the quartermain hotel which I quite enjoy. The falstaff is a decent business hotel which offers all you need. I do prefer the quartermain because of the park like setting.

I have stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions with extreme satisfaction. Friendly staff and very good food. Rooms are comfortable and fairly spacious.
On the downside the shower in the bath is not great.
Overall - I will keep coming back.

Great value for the price! These are single rooms which was a nice break since we were traveling as a group. Our rooms were all near each other on the first floor so the lack of an elevator was not an issue. Breakfast was great. We informed the hotel staff the night before that we would be leaving early to go on safari and they gave us a brown bag breakfast with the best apple I've tasted in my life. We had a slight issue during check out (an extra charge) but it was resolved quickly and professionally. Close to shopping and restaurants in Mandela Square.

In-room wi-fi connection almost not working at all and very unstable, any Skype or Hangouts call is dropping every 2 minutes, and quite often you can't even send e-mails or open a web page. This was happening every day and the only thing the reception was saying is "we've logged a ticket". Other guests were also complaining on this.
The room smells, and is not vacuum-cleaned daily. When you take shower, you inevitably get the floor of the bathroom all wet, no matter how you try.
There are no eating places around the hotel, and the hotel restaurant is not good at all.
It's my 7th business trip to Johannesburg, I've never stayed in this hotel before, and hope never will.

Dear Julia K, The WiFi system we are currently running on is outdated as there has been an enormous growth in data consumption and amount of devices connected to our system in the last year. Also Falstaff data is connected to Quatermain via a radio link, so connectivity between the two hotels at this stage is challenged. I have just recently received Capex approval to replace the entire system to the tune of just over R1Million. The following is being done: 1. All Access points in both hotels will be replaced with Access points that will allow guest to roam seamlessly between Access points (not currently the case) 2. All wiring between Access points inside the buildings will now be replaced with fibre 3. The Radio link between Quatermain and Falstaff is now being replaced with a solid fibre cable running between the hotels, under the road and the apartment building between the two hotels 4. A Cyber roam system will now be managing distribution and usage to all users at all times all over our WiFi network 5. Finally a very high speed up and download fibre link has been installed with a couple of fail-over options Due to ordering and (in some cases) importing of some items coupled with the installation of the new internal fibre system, they recon it will take around 6-8 weeks to complete (the fibre between the two hotels is almost complete). I do apologize for the inconvenience, and I can assure you that we have taken all measures to fix this problem. Please let me know if you need any further assistance in this regard, and also please feel free to let me know when you will be available to have a coffee at breakfast with me during one of your stays. Yours in hospitality Jaco S

Our visit to the Falstaff in Sandton was a most pleasurable experience from the time we arrived on Friday Afternoon 27 March 2015 - 28 March 2015 until the following evening. The Staff were more than accommodating and most friendly. The room was pleasant and charming and very clean😄. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.
