This is a very nice, business-style hotel in Sandton, an upmarket area of Johannesburg.

Only stayed one night but mostly positive experience. Clean rooms, all the facilities you’d expect and easy to get to the local mall and Nelson Mandela Square on the free shuttle bus.

Would have given a 5 but the check-in process was chaotic. 9 of us staying booked a year ago and they seemed to be allocating our rooms there and then. 5 rooms in different parts of the hotel was disappointing. Also the shower being a window to the rest of the room so your Co-occupants can see you showering was interesting and ridiculous that this was allocated to our two chicken aged 20 and 17. No smiles or friendliness from the reception staff sorting this and it took a long time to check us in.

I visited the hotel for a special event evening. The experience was second rate compared to the expectations of this hotel. The planning for such a high volume of guest was bad. We were all tightly crowded into the lobby for a finger meal that was poorly executed. The food however was tasty. I cannot recommend this hotel for events.

Dear 617granth, Thank you for sharing your candid feedback about the special event evening you attended at our hotel. We truly appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your valuable perspective. I'm very sorry to hear that the event management and planning did not meet your expectations or the high standards we strive for. Overcrowding and poor organisation can undoubtedly detract from an otherwise enjoyable experience, and we regret the disappointment this caused you. However, I'm glad to know that despite the shortcomings in the event execution, you found the food tasty. Our culinary team takes great pride in its work, and it's rewarding to hear that their efforts were appreciated. Your feedback is very much appreciated. It helps us identify areas for improvement and take necessary steps to ensure these lapses do not occur again. We will closely review the event planning and management processes to implement changes that enhance the guest experience. Once again, we are grateful for bringing this matter to our attention. Your patronage is highly valued, and we are committed to regaining your trust. We look forward to the opportunity to provide you with the exceptional service you deserve during your next visit.

We went to Johannesburg for a wedding, and spent 2 nights at The Maslow, it was worth every penny. It is 5 min away from Sandton City Mall, Nelson Mandela Square and the Gautrain station.

The staff was friendly and welcoming, especially the ladies at the reception desk. Every staff member we encountered made us feel welcome, by greeting us and giving us a smile.

Facilities were modern and clean, and rooms were in excellent condition. Beds were comfortable. Bathroom was really beautiful, had a bath and shower. I am not a fan of open plan bedroom and bathroom with frosted glass in between though. At night if you put on the light in the bathroom, it can disturb your partner who is asleep, so its either that or go to the bathroom in the dark.

The room has a safe, flat screen with full DSTV bouquet, bar fridge, iron and ironing board. It has a fancy coffee machine with coffee pods, but the machine in our room did not work and we had to use the coffee machine in the adjoining room booked for my children.

My wife loved the spa treatment at the Africology Spa on the first floor. It was pricey, but she was really impressed with the facilities and the variety of treatments.

We requested Halal breakfast which the hotel arranged, but the meals were soggy because it was reheated in the oven and the juice from the tomato had soaked into the eggs and the hash browns, which put us off. But I must mention, the normal breakfast area had quite a spread and looked really good, with lovely pastries, yogurt, fresh fruit, cold meats, eggs, etc.

There is a gym, swimming pool and conference facilities. Parking is secured but uncovered. There is a McDonalds and KFC in walking distance, but I am not sure how safe it is to walk there at night. The other option is to use the hotel shuttle which goes to the Sandton City Mall every 30 minutes and has a drop off and pickup point, which we found to be really convenient. Sandton City Mall has a large number of restaurants for you to choose from, not to mention all the retail stores.

We will definitely stay at The Maslow again.

Booked an executive suite with supposed club lounge access and was informed that the various bars and restaurants were open to use when we checked in.

We subsequently went to the bar for a drink but it appeared closed, we then approached reception and asked if the bar was open and the reception lady said yes it was and escorted us into the bar.

We were then met with very arrogant and aggressive waiters and bar staff that informed us the bar was booked for a private function and that we should leave. When we questioned why reception had told us the bar was open we were told they didn't know what they were doing and if I had a problem I should take it up with the event organizers.

We were then rather forcibly pushed towards the exit, I lost my temper and threw a rope bollard out of the way and demanded to see the GM.

The GM didn't appear and the front office manager appeared I then informed him to check me out as I didn't want to stay in an establishment that treated guests in such an aggressive and disrespectful manner.

We immediately packed our belongings and checked out and then booked into the Sandton Sun And Towers where we experienced the most magnificent service from an establishment that obviously cares about its customers far more than the Maslow and Sun International.

If you staying in Sadton rather book a premium stay at any hospitality venue other than the diabolically poor Maslow Hotel in Sandton.

In closing don't expect a business class experience as this hotel's club lounge only offers a a coffee machine and that's it. You won't get the club lounge experience that other reputable chains offer

This matter was investigated and our video footage show a different version to the above allegation. The Maslow Sandton prides itself in its commitment to world class client service. The venue was indeed privatized for a paying client as is international practice. A variety of alternative options will always remain available in cases like this.

The communications from the hotel creates the impression of good standards and excellent service. Our experience was far from this. Check-In was a long wait, disorganised and no system with persons checking each other about who was first in the queue 🤦🏾. Chaotic would be an understatement. The room is okay. Not excellent.

Breakfast was even worse. Bad quality food. Milk curdling in the coffee. And a chef at the hot station with poor attitude and customer service. I felt as if I was at the corner cafe where you get your food in those styrofoam boxes. 🙄 the hearing lights were switched off by madam chef and the food removed at 10:30. All food stations were then being cleared. All this whilst the resturant was full of people.

Whilst still eating our breakfast, because the breakfast session ends at 10:30, our table was cleared of all utensils, including sugar etc. we could not believe it.

All in all a terrible experience and stay. We politely got up, left our food on the table at checked out of the hotel as fast as we could.

Never again for us. Avoid Aviid

I'm truly sorry to hear about your disappointing experience during your stay with us. It sounds like we fell short in several key areas, from the chaotic check-in process to the breakfast service. This is certainly not the level of service we strive to provide our valued guests, and I sincerely apologise for any inconvenience you endured. Your feedback is invaluable, and I'll make sure it reaches the appropriate departments so we can address these issues promptly. We want all our guests to feel welcomed and cared for, and clearly, this was not reflected during your visit. If there’s anything further we can do to make amends or if you’d like to discuss your experience in more detail, please don’t hesitate to reach out directly. Thank you for bringing these matters to our attention, and again, I’m very sorry for your unsatisfactory stay with us.

The check in was very unfriendly and did not acknowledge our arrival. We were also not advised by reception that we had to provide credit card details in order to charge to the room. This resulted in me receiving a call from downstairs at 21:30 in the evening when I was already sleeping to insist that I come downstairs immediately to settle a bill for R65 ($4) for two cool drinks that I signed to the room. The room is also very basic for a four star hotel and does not even have a power point for a shaver in the bathroom.

I have been to this hotel several times and have again and again made them aware that they do not have vegan options.
It's so simple to have vegan options, by staff in the restaurant and for in-room dining have not been helped to identify how they can assist people with a vegan diet.
The world is changing fast. The Maslow isn't.

Also, on your hotel satisfaction survey portal, you have a dark-skinned person bending over backward with a tray in a colonial outfit.
I find that extremely insensitive and speaks to lack of awareness.

The room was clean and quite modern and featured a nice pod coffee machine, however it did feel very small. The bathroom area was tiny, especially the bench space which was so small you couldn’t even set up any toiletries, it felt more like the bathroom of a budget chain hotel. The outdoor pool area and restaurants space was lovely and the Africology Spa was also a highlight. Food and drinks from the hotels restaurant was all fine however staff were incredibly rude on numerous occasions. It was as if guests dining there were an inconvenience for them, not the service you’d expect from a hotel restaurant. The hotel offers a free shuttle to nearby landmarks/malls which makes it very handy to get around. Overall a very average stay.

My wife and I spent a couple of days at The Maslow and, on balance, enjoyed our time there. Service was always pleasant and attentive and food very good. The room itself was small but serviceable - our biggest issue was that the 'trendy' glass bathroom and toilet were very noisy, so if one person went to the loo the other person could hear everything! Thankfully we're married so romance wasn't on the cards but worth knowing...

They do have a shuttle service though check with hotel for distance that is complimentary. We didn't walk anywhere though the Mandela mall was very close. Just as a precaution as there weren't many people on the streets at night. We had a tour guide who handled our airport transfers.

Hi there, I find the rooms quite comfortable even the ones close to the lift. Maybe 5 - 10 rooms away from the lift , facing the garden instead of the hotel front. The corridors are long so you don't want to walk far to get to the room.

The hotel routinely has a shuttle that stops at the Gautrain station or just call the hotel and they will be there in a few minutes. The hotel is very close to the Gautrain Station. They pick you up on the level with the taxis
