Improve on the food taste from the hotel restaurant and also the pricing. The swimming pool area is exquisite. The none smoking side of the bar was cosy and accommodating for family members accompanied by children.

Enjoyed our New Year's Eve celebration with my wife and our 2 grand kids and also had a comfortable stay, thanks to the manager Tim and his team. The New Years Eve Dinner was really special and they made every effort to provide for us as we were vegetarian on the night. Our grand kids, both under 10 years old, just experienced a bit of discomfort with their sleeping arrangements as the hotel placed a single bed for the two of them in our room. A slight billing issue was speedily rectified by Tim and his team and we were able to settle accordingly. Other than this we had a great time and thank the Hotel staff for their warm hospitality

I have had cause to stay at this hotel 4 times over the past few months, and will be returning for 2 more stays this year. It is truly a gem. There are many hotels in the Sandton area, but none compare when it comes to a feeling of class, with wonderful views and spaces, especially in this price range. I recommend a superior room with views. On my most recent trip, there was a problem with my requested room, but Pearl at the front desk did everything she could to help resolve the problem. I ended up getting an upgraded executive room, which is truly spectacular, with generous proportions. Thank you to Pearl. Well done to Southern Sun Hyde Park.

This used to be a secret gem of a hotel. Sadly, no longer. I have stayed here many times on business trips and at one stage it was the chosen hotel for the likes of the All Blacks and top businesspeople. After being almost faultless then, now my room service food has been cold on both nights of my stay and it has been grossly overpriced - R330 for a steak which was overcooked when ordered rare. The breakfast buffet budgets also seem to have been cut visibly. The staff are kind enough and go through the motions, but their 'mojo' seems to not quite be there anymore. I write this in the hope that this will be fixed.

Pleasant location,highly professional and efficient staff thoughout my stay. However, when you make a booking, I advise you to request a room that faces the street rather than the inner courtyard. This is where the air-conditioning of the adjacent shopping mall is located. Although I was on the 3rd floor, I could hear the noise. Other than that, I have no complaint. The rooms are spacious, modern, clean. Towels and sheets changed regularly. Staff is friendly and efficient.

The atmosphere is very cold and unwelcoming. When I checked in I felt like I was more of a hustle for them than anything else. Bathroom took too long for the water to drain and phone was not working. Food was ok, bed was good. The breakfast has a very small selection however their omelette is really good. DO NOT USE their Transfer Service take Uber it’s better priced (less than half of what their transfer service charges) and reliable. I was left stranded in the middle of nowhere for 30min until I took an uber after they didn’t reply to my messages and calls. Evening shift at the front desk and porter service is friendly and they are the only ones that made me feel I was at a hotel meant to welcome guests.

We stayed at the Southern Sun Hyde Park for 3 nights in October. Superior king ( Room 122) . Comfortable room with a bath . Room overlooking the city but also the restaurant…. It was noisy at night so we asked to be moved to a quieter part of the hotel. The staff ( Lydia) was very accommodating with the move. We moved to nr 130. Beautiful view over the city. No noise at all at night ( even though there was a band on the following two nights) .
The breakfast personel ( Victor and team) was amazing and catered to all our needs. Attentive and knew us by name. Very professional.
Overall a relaxing stay.

Shower floods, leaving us naked without towels Having to fight and ruin a romantic evening
We checked in and the 1st room smelled of rot and filth The second room flooded At 11:30pm we get sick stepping out of a completely flooded shower Cos we had to use our towels to dry the floor We call to complain, ruining our romantic night staycation only to be told we will move you a room when we have no clothes besides our next day clothes which we now are wearing on unwashed bodies, cos the shower flooded. Explaining this to the staff falls on deaf ears, getting us sick and screaming and shouting cos the manager of food and beverage has no idea what to do Futhermore we are moved to the complete end of the hotel, and still wait for our items to be fetched. This is now over 45 minutes and yet we are waiting in passages with no pj’s to wear? And no clean clothes only offering us to dry our clothes at 12:20am? Nice staycation Rather stay elsewhere

Had to book a last business trip to Johannesburg but due to the BRICS Summit, the company preferred hotels were full and the Southern Sun in Hyde Park was the only one in the required area with availability. I now know why and understand why they are not on our preferred list!
The stay was for 8 nights (which included weekend) and after explaining my story to the check-in agent, she assured me that I would get a lovely room and would want to stay with them in future. The room was on the south side, it was dark and cold (even though was really hot at the time) and faced a brick walls. The room location aside, the hotel is tired and in need of a serious make-over and modernising. Although it was kept fairly clean, its tiredeness makes it look grubby. And the drain smell was unbearable at times. Even the air freshener outside the the washrooms on the M-level didn't do the trick! You'll need your own in the room though. On a positive note, I experienced Johannesburg to avoid having to go the dreaded hotel room!
The hotel is centrally located with ease of access to the shopping mall. The view of the sunsets from the bar are also spectacular but no need to subject ourselves to staying at the hotel to make use of the nice facilities.

The hotel is directly connected to the shopping mall, which is very convenient. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. The included breakfast was good and a plus. I liked the spacious gym and the pool area. However, the rooms have not been updated for about 15 years and the TVs are simply not up to today's standards. Also, the wifi connection was extremely poor and unstable, which is bad for working. In addition, one lady at reception was not really accommodating and friendly, but the rest of the staff were.
