The hotel is well located and the rooftop bar is great, with an amazing selection of whisky. That being said, the hotel does feel a little dated. Staff are attentive and friendly, rooms adequate but well cleaned. Had an issue with US power adapters. Decent stay and good value for money, certainly a four star at best.

We were here for two nights while on a tour. Food was excellent and we enjoyed eating one night at the bar while watching a game. The rooms are large, clean and cozy. The hotel is attached to a mall so we could go there and shop, have lunch and catch a movie without worrying about going out and maybe being in danger. we were told to be careful because this is a dangerous city.

I stayed at this hotel a few weeks ago with nine of my friends we travelled from the States. Our first time in South Africa. Friendly staff, the front desk attendants greet you with a warm smile. Very efficient check-in process. We had modern, nice clean and spacious rooms. Great ambience at the hotel, real nice vibe, good energy to be around. I looked forward to the breakfast spread, you really get your money’s worth. Will definitely return, great location, the mall is right next to the hotel.

Shower floods, leaving us naked without towels Having to fight and ruin a romantic evening We checked in and the 1st room smelled of rot and filth The second room flooded At 11:30pm we get sick stepping out of a completely flooded shower Cos we had to use our towels to dry the floor We call to complain, ruining our romantic night staycation only to be told we will move you a room when we have no clothes besides our next day clothes which we now are wearing on unwashed bodies, cos the shower flooded. Explaining this to the staff falls on deaf ears, getting us sick and screaming and shouting cos the manager of food and beverage has no idea what to do Futhermore we are moved to the complete end of the hotel, and still wait for our items to be fetched. This is now over 45 minutes and yet we are waiting in passages with no pj’s to wear? And no clean clothes only offering us to dry our clothes at 12:20am? Nice staycation Rather stay elsewhere…

Southern Sun Hyde Park Sandton was a nice hotel. The lobby was welcoming and the reception staff were all on-point. Check-in was speedy. My family and I were in room 243 and 241. The view was bad but there is an option to pay for a view of the city if you absolutely need a great view. The room was small but had sufficient space to accommodate two people. Please note if you book a double ti room, you will need to ask them to separate the beds, as the default setting is for the beds to be butted against each other. the bathroom was large and consisted of standing shower stall and tub. There is sufficient counter space in the bathroom. the fridge in the room is not very powerful. The bed was okay. it was firm but not super comfortable. The breakfast buffet was great. There was a good variety of pastries, fruit, meats, ec . The staff was very attentive and provided great customer experience. I enjoy variety of fresh fruits and juices. The omelets were done well, however, there are limited fillings for them. Please be aware Jo'burg has regularly scheduled load-shedding multiple times per day. Southern Sun Hyde Park has auxiliary power so the room is never in darkness. There is an entrance to the Hyde Park Corner mall from the hotel lobby rear entrance. The mall has a Pick and Pay supermarket. The not so good. You are not allowed to bring outside food to the pool deck to consume. The restaurant menu is not extensive. choices are limited. I recommend Southern Sun Hyde Park Sandton hotel the staff made all the not so good parts better. …

Had to book a last business trip to Johannesburg but due to the BRICS Summit, the company preferred hotels were full and the Southern Sun in Hyde Park was the only one in the required area with availability. I now know why and understand why they are not on our preferred list! The stay was for 8 nights (which included weekend) and after explaining my story to the check-in agent, she assured me that I would get a lovely room and would want to stay with them in future. The room was on the south side, it was dark and cold (even though was really hot at the time) and faced a brick walls. The room location aside, the hotel is tired and in need of a serious make-over and modernising. Although it was kept fairly clean, its tiredeness makes it look grubby. And the drain smell was unbearable at times. Even the air freshener outside the the washrooms on the M-level didn't do the trick! You'll need your own in the room though. On a positive note, I experienced Johannesburg to avoid having to go the dreaded hotel room! The hotel is centrally located with ease of access to the shopping mall. The view of the sunsets from the bar are also spectacular but no need to subject ourselves to staying at the hotel to make use of the nice facilities. …

I stayed at the southern sun hyde park hotel at Aug 2023 when the Bricks were held in Johanesburg, All the hotels were full and many diplomats and bodyguards were in the hotel, but they managed the situation very well, Recommended for family and business trips because of nice view, clean rooms, great restaurant, kind staff Located in a good neighborhood and beside hydepark shopping centre

First time in South Africa for a business trip. Really impressed by the security. Well maintained hotel, clean and smells good. Very helpful staff from the one cleaning the restaurant and bar (Allen), to the RDM (Mrs Naidoo?) A big shout out to Mr Francis who always made sure we were comfortable and safe.

Good business hotel. Comfy rooms with good sized bathrooms. Tasty breakfast and good sundower terrace. Gym is decent but basic and the pool is too small to actually swim in. Handy for the mall next door. I would use it again.

This used to be a secret gem of a hotel. Sadly, no longer. I have stayed here many times on business trips and at one stage it was the chosen hotel for the likes of the All Blacks and top businesspeople. After being almost faultless then, now my room service food has been cold on both nights of my stay and it has been grossly overpriced - R330 for a steak which was overcooked when ordered rare. The breakfast buffet budgets also seem to have been cut visibly. The staff are kind enough and go through the motions, but their 'mojo' seems to not quite be there anymore. I write this in the hope that this will be fixed.
