Not quite 4 star but it's not bad. We were a bit disappointed that the jacuzzi was not working (although it was part of the package). The room was nice but nothing remarkable about anything. There was also nothing really bad about it, just don't expect too much. Loadshedding took place during our evening spent there and although they have a generator it was not switched on and we couldn't find a candles or emergency light.
The road was quite bad and full of potholes but this is not the hotels fault, just something to keep in mind if you have to drive at night.

The Airconditioning/heater didn’t work and it was freezing. There was a dirty towel left in the bathroom. Only one clean bath towel was left for us. The hot water didn’t work in my children’s room. The food in the restaurant was cold and not very appetizing.

Dinner menu is great, but breakfasts take far too long, especially if one's meetings start at 8am - breakfast only gets served from 7am and choice is shocking - they should move into a buffet style breakfast. Asked the chef the night before to buy rye bread, they didn't. Towels in the bathrooms are far too small, they hardly go around one's body - not great in winter. The lighting in the rooms is poor. Shower quality is poor. No complimentary water in rooms. TV reception is poor.

What to say about Soli Deo Gloria Boutique Hotel…?
Let me start by saying that the staff and manager are trying. They are not ignoring clients’ complaints but this is unfortunately not enough.
From the rooms, to the restaurant, from the security to the servicing of rooms, I can’t think of one positive thing to say.
We booked one night at the hotel believing it was a 4 star hotel. Then we decided to add an extra night to make sure we didn’t have to rush on the Saturday.
I tried to get in touch numerous times with the hotel over a couple of days period but could not get hold of anyone. I eventually managed to get a cell number to speak to the hotel manager and make sure that we would not have to change rooms as it was 2 separate bookings.
To apologize for the lack of communication, he advised that he would upgrade us for the stay. Nice! It all started on a positive note.
So we arrived at the hotel on the Friday afternoon. After waiting for probably 5 minutes at the [tiny] reception, someone arrived, made us fill in a full form [including medical aid details???] and then walked us to our “upgraded” room.
First impression – this is a very big room. No doubt about it, the room is very spacious.
We unpacked our luggage – very difficult as there is nowhere to put your luggage but on the floor or on the bed…
Before putting our clothes in the wardrobe, I had to dust it as there was a lot of dust in it. Not great,
Then the bathroom. I took all our toiletry there but realized that you have no place but a tiny shelf under the sink to put your things. So, we had to put most of our belonging on the floor.
When we walked to the restaurant (dinner was included in the rate), we found a PUB! Yes, just a pub with bare tables. We initially thought we were in the wrong place.
But no, this is the only restaurant – if you can call this a restaurant – on site.
We got the menu and it was nothing more than pub food: steak egg and chips, chicken strips, pub basket and a couple of salads.
I was so upset that I messaged the manager – who responded very quickly. He explained that they had done a rebranding of the restaurant to attract more customers and that he would refund the dinner. Yes, this was a nice customer care gesture HOWEVER, one of the reason we chose this hotel was to avoid getting out in the evening! Now we had to decide – do we leave and drive to any other restaurant or stick it up and have pub food? Really not a choice I wanted to have at that stage.
Now, to go into details for each area… I checked the Tourism Grading South Africa to see what is required for a 4 star hotel. I thought – let me check as maybe I am asking “too much”… but clearly not! All the below points are from the official Tourism site.

How can you call yourself a 4 star hotel?? Your certificate was delivered in March (?) 2017. I think it might be time to have the property reevaluated.
The whole stay was a joke.
At R1150 per night, I would have much rather stayed in a 3 star hotel where I would have at least got what I would have expected!

Thank you Audrey, for the detailed experience and complaints. I will use this for our weekly staff training to better our staff and service. I did explain to you the thinking around changing the restaurant, it was a business and marketing decision. I did apologise to you on the night and I will do so now again. I think a lot of your comments are unfair. But I do apologise if the stay was not up to your standards. Hopefully you will stay with us again and we will prove to you that we not all bad.

As the name and costs suggests, I expected Boutique Hotel treatment. What I got was an self-catering accomodation. No heating or cooling in the room, bedsheets thinner than the non-existent toiletpaper when I got there and breakfast served at the leisure of the staff rather than the guests.

No wifi in room. Supposedly I had half board, but the restaurant was closed one evening and I was not notified. The one meal I had was poor. On arrival I had to change rooms. The rooms were shabby, broken tiles in bathroom etc.

Thank you for the review, be assured it will be taken seriously. My apologies for the experience you had. The restaurant was closed on Sunday night, my sincere apologies that the staff did not communicate that to you they have been reprimanded. I am surprised about the food quality, I have some of the best chefs in the industry. The reason why we had to change your room, there was an issue with the door lock. My sincere apologies about the cracked tile in the shower, maintenance fixed the issue. I would personally like to invite you to stay with us again, you will have a different experience.

I stayed for 6 nights and only got wi-fi working a third of my stay. Restaurant waiter is PLAIN RUDE asking me to greet him before I could order anything. I did greet him previously and he never replied, which could be that he hadn't heard me, but REQUIRING a guest to greet a waiter?? NO! I work in a 5-star hotel, this can cost somebody a lot! Sausages for breakfast were not fresh, orders always came too late. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL AT ALL!

If I'd informed you( Quetus/Tanya, the owners) that I had other prior pre arranged horrible experiences at other hotel establishments and what those particular Noise Disturbances were Why would you create the same disturbing lounging situation unless you were conspiring and told to do as such...?!?
After I checkout Sunday, obviously I and the few key people that I know over south africa won't be patronizing this place.
