we stayed there for a night as a stop-over and it was perfect. professional, clean and staff were friendly. we also enjoyed the restaurants which are next door. only the next morning did we realize that behind the hotel there is a park. good work, please keep it up!

We recently had the privilege of staying at the Protea Hotel Roodepoort recently.
Check in was smooth and painless, and we offered either a juice or water at check in.
The room is a basic room, but nothing fancy, with a small space to hang your clothes, tea and coffee making facilties. It does have a reasonable size flat screen TV, a double bed and a sleeper couch and also a workspace. A plus point for visitors from outside South Africa, is that there is a multi plug point that can accommodate various types of plugs.
The bathroom is basic, with just a shower and basin. Toiletries are the usual Protea Hotel brand. The shower works well.
The staff is very friendly and helpful, although when we asked for exrtra coffee sachets, we never received them.
The buffet breakfast was standard fare. Enjoyable and well laid out.
The hotel is situated in a business park, and has a Spur Restaurant adjacent, and a Green and Gold Sports bar within waiking distance. We did not make use of the Spur, but went to Green and Gold for a couple of drinks, and were impressed with the menu.
All in all I would recommend the Protea Roodepoort as a good business hotel, and a convenient gateway to places such as the Cradle of Humankind and other attactions to the West of Joburg.

As a traveller staying in places like Kensington in London to Times Square in New York right through to Sandton in South Africa, you start to keep a certain balance when it comes to what works for you as a guest in a hotel. And having visited the Anew Hotel in Roodepoort before just for a meeting, I decided to book in when we wanted to visit family on that side of town. With the price of petrol its cheaper to find accommodation and enjoy the visit, than to try and make it back to where we lived. It was a Saturday night so the pub was busy and outside was quite loud. However, once we made it to the reception desk, all was calm and quiet. Jamie, the receptionist was so helpful that the guests in the queue ahed of us, had to leave her still pointing out breakfast times etc. She turned her attention to us, and with the online checkin process being seamless, it was a few minutes and our key was handed over. Lovely welcome and all that she mentioned was in order during our stay.
Our room was light and airy and even in load shedding, everything worked except the air conditioner which is what was mentioned during our chat with Jamie and that is understandable. It was good to have lights and a hot shower. The TV was a bit disappointing because there was no news channel but we didn't check in to watch TV. The sleep was a 10 out of 10 and the next morning we were served breakfast at a clean, full loaded but simple buffet station.
Thabang and Kamogelo were our breakfast and checkout team and both had smiles wider than the Grand Canyon. Coffee was hot, my eggs were perfect and overall a great ending to a perfect stay. Would I visit again - absolutely. Would I recommend the hotel - no question. How were the facilities - 100%. Well done and keep up the good work.

Unfortunately the lift is out of order, “will be repaired soon”, “when”, “by Friday next week”, unfortunately I check out on Wednesday. The generator is just outside my first floor room window, and it’s not the silent type unfortunately. A mistake to swap the four flights of stairs for a room lower down, an it starts up with great fanfare every few hours throughout the night. The wifi is very very slow, I swap to using mobile data. Early check in requested and confirmed, unfortunately not available on arrival. The staff are however very friendly and apologetic, hence the 2 star rating.

We always appreciate receiving feedback as it assists us in our strive for consistency and meeting our guest’s expectation. The lift has been a concern for us, since we took over the management contract of the property. We truly understood the inconvenience and irritation this would have caused, but we had to push for a brand-new lift. We are excited about the new lift and happy to announce that the Government certificate of approval will be signed off on Monday 20/02/2023. Sadly, there is not much we can do about the generator noise. She is an old lady running more than what was initially intended for. We are having discussions around a new generator, and hopefully also with the possibility of it being installed in a different location. I did pick -up that you stayed with us last year and I would like to suggest that should you visit us again, let’s choose a room that will feel perfect and then we will ensure that whenever your travels bring your back this way – you will get the same room every time. We proud ourselves in creating a home away from home feel and in upholding our commitment to provide a memorable experience with exceptional service, we hope to have an opportunity to better your experience with us whenever your travels bring you back to this area. On the night we checked in, two of your employees were fiddling and trying to open our door and eventually succeeded to enter the room. A guy and a girl.
While noticing that one person was awakened by all the noise, they just turned back and said nothing.
What could they possibly want at 10pm?
The receptionist later called to confirm whether the room was occupied. Which was pointless after 2 of your employees already barged in.

Really lovely rooms, spacious and light and very clean.
The Hotel car guard was diligent in ensuring that our vehicle was parked safely and away from any high traffic areas.
The Reception staff were not very friendly but the breakfast service staff were efficient and eager to ensure service excellence

The second time I’ve stayed here and the second time I’ve booked a transfer only to call and confirm a day before and no one has any knowledge, no apology and no explanation. Needless to say I didn’t get a transfer.
The shower was missing handles to open the door for within which made it hard to get out. Hair dryer broken, no water given in the room.
The kitchen staff in the morning were beyond lovely though.

Dear Kyla V, Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your recent visit at ANEW Hotel Roodepoort. We have done some investigation on the feedback you provided us. Unfortunately, we did find the hairdryer in your room broken. We do have spare ones on standby and have replaced the broken one. We are not aware of this being reported during your stay and we sincerely apologise for this not being actioned whilst you visited. None of our showers have handles on the inside. The rubber seal is on the outside of the door; hence it should only take a light push to open the door. We did look at the shower door and there does not seem to be anything restricting the door from opening. We sincerely apologise if this was the case whilst you visited us. Somewhere there must be some misunderstanding with the transfer. Our reservationist did receive your request for a transfer. Upon our inquiry on the transfer with the booker of your group, it was confirmed that communication was provided with you that an UBER was to be requested. My understanding is that there was several phone communications with ourselves and you about the UBER request. We sincerely apologise if this was not communicated to us correctly. We can only action on the information we receive. The reception staff is to advise all our guests on check-in that water provided is placed in the mini fridge in your room. Sadly, it seems this was not communicated to you. We proud ourselves in creating a home away from home feel and it is never acceptable and always disappointing when we failed in our guest’s expectation. “With age, comes wisdom.
