This is generally a really nice hotel, conviniently situated close to restaurants and businesses. However, a few things went wrong while I was there.
First, I was given a room key to a room that was already allocated to someone else. Imagine both mine and the other guest's shock when I opened his room with my key! Luckily he was working at the desk and not coming out of the shower or taking a nap. That kind of thing should never happen though.
Secondly, somehow the date of my departure was recorded incorrectly and a day before my set departure I had housekeeping and hotel front desk staff knocking on my door in the early evening as I was getting ready to go out. Why couldn't they have called the room phone?
Third is that being so close to restaurants can have a down side- one of the restaurants across the road had a live band one evening (a Thursday evening, so not even a weekend night) and being located in a room on the side facing the restaurants... wow! the noise was very very loud!

On the other had the lady who makes the eggs and hot breakfast is such a ray of sunshine. I would stay there again just to see her. She is so sweet and friendly and seems to remember all the guests preferences from the day before.

The rooms are clean neat and tidy. Had a good quality sleep. Shower and bathroom was in a good condition and design is spaced well. Room was quiet and comfortable, an easy place to work. The internet connection was slow and not in a good condition to catch up with work or have online meetings. Reception and porter are lazy, not welcoming or friendly. Dinning room staff lazy and not helpful. Bar tender had to compensated for lack of service from waiters in a the half empty dinning room. The menu for dinner and breakfast had a good variety food was delicious and fulling. Although we had to clean our own table and source our coffee, cups and cutlery before we sat down to breakfast.
It is a good place to stay as long as you don't mind the lazy service staff.

We arrived on a busy weekend as there were large events happening in and around Gauteng for the weekend. Part of the group we arrived with had had their Discovery Vitality Travel booking cancelled without their knowledge. As far as I understand, not the fault of the hotel, and in their defence it was rectified and the booking reinstated. On arrival to our room, we only had one bath towel and no hand towels so we had to request extra as we were sharing. The main problem is the area is so noisy. The street noise carries on until 2am, and then at 4:30am the taxis start with their hooting. It is unrelenting! It continues without stopping. Either the hotel need to engage with the city authorities, or they need to reinstall sound proof and insulated windows. It was horrible. I cannot understand how people could live in that area on a permanent basis. Room was otherwise comfortable and the breakfast was good. I would suggest they add water dispensers on each level, as the only one we found was outside the restaurant, and there is no drinking water provided in your room.

Dear SaffaDuke Thank you for taking the time review us and providing us with constructive feedback. I would like to apologize that there was a delay at check-in when you arrived at the hotel. The hotel had a buzz with overwhelming early arrivals for check-in and managers on duty being stretched all over the building in sorting arrivals rooms’ requests to ensure everyone receives their room timeously. We saddened that you could not sleep at night due to the noise from outside. We are working with all relevant stakeholders to ensure we deal with the noise issues in the precinct. We have referred to our property and development department the note on the sound proof rooms and a water hydration station in each floor. We take our guest reviews and feedback to heart because we value your opinion. This is the most resourceful way of improving our service offering and customer satisfaction. I once again apologize for the experience you had. I hope you will afford us an opportunity to put right your future experience at our hotel on your upcoming stay. We will continue with our commitment to kindness and service excellence. We look forward to welcoming you as our guest to our hotels again soon.

City Lodge, I recommend you approach the Municipality to either get the tons of clubs around the hotel to be sound proof or better sound proof the rooms!!!!!

In my whole stay every night was filled with throbbing base echo’s from loud music with the same beat through my hotel room.

Unless you want a splitting headache and feel hangover every morning without having a single drink DO NOT BOOK HERE!!!!

The worst is the balcony door does not lock it’s broken reply from staff on this was ——nothing will happen to you on the 8th floor you’ll be safe!!

So I pay to stay in a room with a balcony sliding door that can not lock but its ok because it’s on the 8th floor …with echoes of repeating beats all through the night to wake up with a throbbing head ache!!

Pathetic!!!!!

Its a pitty ….the hotel is beautiful and cafe staff are awesome but nothing makes up for continuous nights of bad sleep and feeling unsafe!

a visit in JHB with a headache and bad sleep every day!!

Thank you for staying with us and for your feedback. We are so sorry that you experienced disrupted sleep during your stay. We are currently experiencing a high number of noise complaints due to a new club that has opened nearby, and have met with Metro police to see what can be done about it. Our landlords are also looking into the issue and taking it up with authorities in the area. We apologise for the balcony door that wouldn’t lock and will have our maintenance team look into it. Please would you let us know which room you stayed in so they can be sure to give that door extra attention. Once again, we truly regret that your stay left you feeling tired and frustrated, and not rested and relaxed, which we strive to achieve. We do hope you will choose to stay with us again for an altogether better experience.

The hotel is well maintained and staff very friendly and attentive.
Location was convenient for where we needed to be.
There is room to improve the vegetarian options on the cafe menu, only toasted cheese available as an option.
The shower head in room 303 needs fixing.

Waited at reception 30 min to book in as there were a queue of people to book in but the hotel only had 1 person at the front desk to help us even though it was check-in time.

I booked 2 rooms for 4 adults and 2 children, only to arrive to be told the hotel is full and they only have 2 rooms each with just 1 double bed each. We requested extra bedding for the kids to sleep on and were just provided with 1 extra blanket after calling reception 3 times, they ended up sleeping on the floor. After requesting feedback from management they failed to come back to us and were not bothered nor did the staff at reception seem to care to come back to just ignored the issue. We also had just one hand and bath towel in our room and had to ask for this too from reception. The room's balcony door could not be shut which was a problem because the club down the street played loud music up until 2 am and then the taxi's started at 4:30 non-stop hooting for commuters.

Horrible experience would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Stayed at the City Lodge in Lynwood much better experience and staff. This hotel lacked management!

Dear Ruaan Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. We are saddened that your stay was not pleasant, and we regret the inconvenience you experienced. I would like to apologize that there was a delay at check-in when you arrived at the hotel. Unfortunately, it becomes beyond our control when staff members call in sick on our peak days. This resulted in the subsequent delay at check-in. However, more receptionists were scheduled and arrived for the afternoon shift which started at 14h00. To add on to that, our interface key system went off without notification and we apologize for the consequent delay in receiving your room keys. Our room categories are two options, which is; one queen bed for 2 adults in a room or two ¾ beds for two adults in the room. Our team did drop the ball when you called us and severally requested additional bedding and towels, to no supply. The hotel had a buzz with overwhelming early arrivals for check-in and managers on duty being stretched all over the building in sorting IT issues, rooms’ requests and restaurant/bar requests. These are certainly no excuses for the appalling experience you had. We take our guest reviews and feedback to heart because we value your opinion. This is the most resourceful way of improving our service offering and customer satisfaction. We had a post-mortem review of the past weekend, to reflect on our shortfalls with the team and taking corrective trainings to prevent these issues from occurring in the future. I once again apologize for the experience you had. I hope you will afford us an opportunity to put right your future experience at our hotel on your upcoming stay. We will continue with our commitment to kindness and service excellence. We look forward to welcoming you as our guest to our hotels again soon.

I had a wonderful stay at the City Lodge Hotel in Pretoria. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and always ready to assist with a smile. My room was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, with all the amenities I needed for a relaxing stay. The hotel's central location made it easy to explore the city, and I appreciated the secure parking available. The breakfast buffet was a highlight, offering a great variety of fresh and tasty options. Overall, the atmosphere was peaceful, and I felt right at home. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to others visiting Pretoria.

The hotel is of international standard and is well located.
It is very clean and offers good rates.
There are lots of restaurant and a supermarket front of the hotel.
The food is good and great choice.
There was a problem with power supply. The hotel has backup generators but the aircon is not powered in such situation.
I will come back with pleasure.

Situated in Hatfield the City Lodge offers a decent room at a good price although some issues resulting in a better rating . Some severe misinformation given by front desk staff over issues with cleanliness of water , lied to by staff and management declined to apologize for the service . Rooms cleaned well and hotel restaurant suitable , slightly overpriced compared to local eateries.
Bar seemed to close early a few nights despite a 11pm closure advertised.
