I arrived at Guest House Seidel on the 2nd of April 2008 from Cape Town. It was a cold and rainy evening and I could not see much of the surroundings.
I was booked into a room and was pleasantly surprised. It was nice, clean and smelt fresh and homely, no old food odours. The outside was spacious with well kept gardens.
I have spent time in many other guesthouses before, all over the country. I have spent time in good ones and bad ones. This one was good and in a good area near to the Banks, Gautrain station, CSIR and shopping centres.

When I woke up the following morning I found that Guest House Seidel was quiet and the surroundings were tranquil. I went down to the dinning-room where I met the owner, Gerhard Seidel and his wife Malie. What a pleasant couple!
.
The breakfast had a good variety and was of a high standard.

My stay was scheduled for approximately one month. On discovering this, Gerhard decided to move me to another room more suited for long term stay.
The business I came to do in Pretoria turned out to become longer than anticipated and I spent the following few years till 30 August 2013 at this facility.

During my time at Guest House Seidel I got to know the owners as professional and helpful. Even when I spent time in hospital they supported me.
As for housekeeping, my room was always immaculately clean, the room was spacious, I had a TV, always in working order, a bar fridge and kettle and was able to make tea or coffee in my room anytime I wished.
What I experienced at Guest House Seidel was total commitment to detail. I was regularly asked if I needed anything. Whenever I had to travel to Cape Town, Gerhard would drive me to the airport himself.
I could have chosen to stay in a flat but Guest House Seidel's homely atmosphere, management and staff made it easy for me to rather stay at Seidel's.
The day I left it felt like I was leaving home.
Gerhard and Malie, all I can say is thank you for your friendship, and your hospitality. Guest House Seidel will be long remembered.
Seidel's may have a 3 star rating, but as for the rest Seidel's is 5 star!

Hosts were very friendly, providing me with transport to and from the CSIR convention centre.....as well as getting me to the train station on time. Assisted me with travel on Gautrain and bus ......which I have never done before.

Stayed here for about a week in July 2013 when we were working in Pretoria and Jo`burg. A really convenient and quiet place to stay. Not luxerious, but good standard and most importantly, it is clean.

At the end of April 2013 I had to stay in Pretoria for two nights and booked myself into the Seidel Guesthouse in Lynnwood, Pretoria. As I was booked on a Kulula.com flight, the Seidel Guesthouse was on the Kulula website as part of their fly-drive-stay option. Being a three-star rated guesthouse I felt relatively convinced that the guesthouse would meet basic standards of accommodation. However, I was totally disillusioned when I arrived at the guesthouse!
Being a really ugly duckling from the outside, I was hoping that the inside of the Seidel would look better. But, reality quickly struck! The interior of the Seidel Guesthouse was even more in need of maintenance than its exterior. Basic things were missing or not working. There is no signage to indicate where Reception is, where the rooms are etc. After eventually having found Reception, I had to press the door button which was broken. So too was the front door which took some force to open.

Things got worse when I reached my bedroom. Without going into too much detail the following should tell the story of my experience … My bedroom was not cleaned, the bed was not made up, the bathroom door (a very shabby, dirty and very old plastic folding door) was broken and hanging halfway into the door opening, the linen was of exceptionally poor quality, the quality of the television pictures were so poor that I could not watch any television. To add to this experience, the toilet is squeezed into such a small space that I could not get off it as the wall was only a few centimetres from my knees!

Breakfast was of the same poor quality as the rest of the guesthouse. Eggs burnt around the edges, the hot food being cold.

Seidel's regulations do not allow one to cancel your booking without losing most of your money paid (you have to pay in full when booking). However, I did lose the first night’s money but having showed the owner the condition of the bedroom, was refunded for the second night. The owner himself blamed everyone (cleaners etc) except himself for the poor quality of the bedroom. His excuse was that he had “not been in the bedrooms for a very long time”.

I left the guesthouse - and its owner - with the feeling that I was being completely disrespected as a customer.

Every now and then one is surprised (positively or negatively) by the quality of a guesthouse. In this case the Seidel Guesthouse is an embarrassment not just to the guesthouse business, but also to Kulula and the guesthouse rating system.

Response from Liezl380, Owner at Guest House Seidel
Responded 29 Jul 2013
I am sorry to read the above review and wish to respond as follows: It is true that the shower door was broken and that the responsible cleaner had not reported it to management and for that my sincere apology to Dr Smit. However, as he had been booked in for Saturday and Sunday nights he had not reported this defect during Saturday so we could have moved him to another room. On inspecting the door he was immediately offered another, made up room, to move to but he refused and we refunded him the pro rata amount for the Sunday stay. On Monday we replaced the faulty door with a brand new door.. As far as the remark that his room had not been cleaned must be seen in the light that most guesthouses, such as us, do not service rooms on Sundays and public holidays as our cleaning staff also need some time off.. The room was properly made up on Saturday but was not serviced on Sunday. The linen used is of good quality and meets the Star Grading Council of South Africa's standards. We found that the previous guest must have fiddled with the adjustment of the TV controls and this was quickly rectified by letting the TV search for the correct channels. We are sorry that Dr Smit has expressed such a negative opinion and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience but this must surely be offset against the large number of guests who keep coming back to us on a regular basis and expressing their satisfaction to us.. Not impress at all. General maintenance inside the unit and outside need desperate attention. Gardens needs attention. First impression was not a good experience. Location of property very good. Business do have potential but need serious attention.

I had a pleasant stay and found the owners and staff friendly and very helpful. It was like a home away from home. I would recommend Guest House Seidel to friends and family. One concern though is the plugs that needs to be fixed since it could become dangerous.

When they say pictures can be deserving, they mean this.
Was booked in this B&B for the weekend since i had to be at work for Friday and Monday. To be honest the accommodation was really terrible, the room was smelling, the bed sheets were stained and when i took them off to be washed the next day, the same sheets were put back on the bed, ... breakfast was terrible, couldn't continue having breakfast for the rest on my staying. The shower was dirty, had to use my flip flop when showering. There is no pool as it was shown on their web page.
I have nothing against the people there, their welcoming was warm and nice but the state of the accommodation was revolting unfortunately.

We stayed in the self-catering unit for two nights. There was a terrible and persistent smell to the place, like it hadn't been used in ten years. The decor dates from the 1970s and it isn't charming. Furniture and electrical appliances were obviously quite old and scuffed - the microwave must have been one of the first ever produced. Taps in the shower had non-matching heads and weren't marked hot and cold. Some of the lights did not have lamp shades, only bare bulbs. One bathroom opened directly into the kitchen. The garden was neglected, full of weeds and the paving at the back cracked and uneven due to tree roots.

The Location is calm and provides a sense of safety.
The Guest house owner Mr Seidel, has really good sense of humor. The rooms, although with some old fixtures, are maintained very clean and provide kind of a homey, relaxation feeling.
The restaurant has some self-service and on-spot order for preparation of a meal of your taste. on top of everything the rates are good
