Established in 1998, Irene Country Lodge, Autograph Collection® was built with the vision of providing visitors with an AUTHENTIC FARM experience in a modern elegant urban facility. The owners envisaged a haven of peace and tranquillity in the midst of the city where their love for farming could be shared. What began as a small boutique hotel in the meadows has grown into a countryside experience as additions to the property such as the Camdeboo Day Spa have been done in keeping with the overall farm feel.

We stayed for 2 nights at African Pride Irene County Lodge.

Upon arrival we had to wait for about 30 minutes before someone at reception was able to help us check in only to then be informed that our room was still being cleaned and we can't check in yet. Check in was supposed to be at 14:00 and our room was only available at around 15:15. With check out being at 10:00 there should be no reason for a room still needing cleaning at 14:00.

When we finally could go to our room, the room was spacious, clean and private with a nice view of the lake and a nice patio.

On our first evening we decided to try out the Medow Green Restaurant which is the Restaurant located on the property. We had the option of a buffet dinner or ordering from the a la carte menu. We opted for the a la carte menu, even though the menu lacked some variety and we later came to find that the prices did not justify the quality of the food at all.

The service was slow and lackluster, some of the food was served cold and one waiter kept dropping cutlery and plates on the floor (this happened throughout the time we were dining there). The music that was playing in the dining room was at times so loud that myself and my partner could not hear eachother. Besides the volume of the music, the music was greek/Italian themed which does not fit the theme of the restaurant or lodge at all.

We opted for the breakfast to be included in the overall price and came to be disappointed once again. The breakfast buffet at least had more variety however, the food which was supposed to be kept hot at the buffet station was lukewarm at best. This coupled with the fact that there was only one person left in charge of the fried egg and omelets station, which caused diners to line up and que for 10-15 minutes to order and get their eggs ment that by the time you finally sat down at your table to eat, your food was cold.

Overall the dining options and the restaurant was the biggest let down of our stay and if we knew better we would have opted to dine off site from the first evening, which we did the second night of our stay. With so many dining options off site and close to the lodge this is the far better and much more economic option. Fot these reasons we will not advise anyone staying at the lodge to dine at the Medow Green Restaurant or to include the buffet breakfast as part of the their stay.

Our biggest highlight was the Camdebo Day Spa located on the same property as the lodge. The service was excellent and professional and worth every penny.

All in all the lodge is excellently located, the rooms are spacious, private and clean and the Spa is definitely highly recommended, just don't dine at the Medow Green Restaurant if you can avoid it.

We stopped at this hotel during a tour of South Africa.
We loved it: nice rooms, good service, good breakfast and dinner and quite special.
We had a room with a beautiful location that allowed us to enjoy a beautiful sunset.
Some of us chose special dishes and the price was decidedly low.
We celebrated my husband's birthday and they prepared a little surprise.
It's not always obvious to find a nice hotel during a tour, but this time it went really well.

Struggled to find a room that did not smell like tobacco had to check 3 times ( The lady at reception tried all she could).

Ordered chips and chickens stripes for my child's supper but they were so hard that she couldn't eat any of it.

When visiting the restaurant for breakfast, the lady asked if there was anything broken in the room. Not a very welcoming thing to ask a guest.

The facilities were however nice and access to the irene farm was a peak.

We didn't get to check in until 18.00, and when we finally got to check in, it wasn't the room we had booked, but a combined room/conference room that wasn't properly cleaned. The room on the second floor with a balcony that we had pre-booked was replaced with a room next to the dishes with a lot of noise from early to late. Hotel car that we ordered for collection at a shopping center, we had to follow up by calling the hotel 7 times before the driver arrived, it took almost two hours. We also agreed on a late check-out, something that those at the reception had not communicated to each other, this created chaos and stress before departure to an agreement in the morning on the day of departure. It was also uncertain whether we would have the same room when we returned from our appointment later in the day. We paid for late check out but didn't get clean towels and the room key didn't work. The hotel bears the mark of poor maintenance and service and cannot be said to be a 5 star hotel. Overall experience suggests that we would not recommend this hotel.

I stay in the area but was hosted at the Lodge for a work trip where we all stayed at the same venue. It was an excellent experience – and I have to say, I wouldn’t mind taking a holiday there even though I live in the area! The staff were friendly, helpful and in good spirits. The room was large, tastefully decorated and had very thoughtful, useful touches for visitors. Clean, comfortable (especially the bed) and with every amenity I would want. The restaurant food was excellent and the gardens and pond were lovely. Overall, I would highly recommend this venue.

The attraction of this hotel is its lakeside bird sanctuary. The rooms are spacious but now dated. Basic things are provided like a safe and tea and coffee making. There is also an iron and board for the traveller. Limited toiletries of poor quality. The lakeside walk is worth a 15 to 20 minute walk round. We would call this a good one night passing through place. The only facilities to dine appear to be at the hotel.

We need to make a special mention on the staff. At the bar the bartenders had an attitude of you are only here one night. He was unpleasant and edging on rude. We found most, but not all, staff to have the same unhappy customers service attitude and charisma bypass or lacked customer training.

We took a last minute break from the City and went to the African Pride Irene Country Lodge- 35 min from JHB. Booked 2 rooms - Forest view, large , spacious rooms and bathrooms- felt like we were in a tree house. The hotel was not full but the staff went out of their way to make sure that everything was up to standard whilst constantly adhering to all Covid protocols.

The diary farm across the road is an added bonus easily accessible, a lovely Resturant and deli shop. Very child friendly too.
The hotel has kids activities, a beautiful lake to walk around and lush green gardens.

All in all a fantastic weekend. A big thank you to Thuli and the staff for excellent service and making it special.

We've been wanting to go to this venue for a long time and decided to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary there (26 Feb 2023). We started our day at the spa with one of their 'bespoke' packages. What a disaster! One of the therapists fell asleep during the treatment! After the treatment we checked in (one of the larger rooms) and decided to have a shower and then go and have a pre-dinner drink. As we walked through the hotel the floors were dirty, the seating areas were dirty...everything felt very unkempt. We ordered a bottle of wine (just before 5) and waited for the restaurant to open as we were told they'd be open from 6pm. It only opened at 6.20pm since the staff 'had to eat 1st'. I ordered a steak (dry and tasteless) and my wife the chicken salad. At least the salad was 'nice'. Back in the room we found the aircon could not cope with the size of the room and had to spend a very warm and stuffy night there, so much so that we got up and left for home at 5.30am the next morning. In our opinion just not worth the 1000's of Rands we spent for the night, with many better options available in the area.

First leg of our Irene stay!

Still as beautiful as ever, but service was disappointing, from checking to room allocation, extra bed not great start.
Room service was poor, took forever and charged R100 with equated to 1/3 of the total bill, bizarre
Food was poorly prepared for room service and the restaurant, waiters were slow and it felt like they had not stepped up a gear. Reception was adequate but nothing extra ordinary.. no extra mile when I wanted to extend.

Hotel remains pristine and grounds (except the pool, please.. please do something nice with a pool for guests)
My son love bike riding along the path around the Dam,

My second review when we stayed in March was superb

We had such a lovely stay at African Pride Irene Country Lodge. It was our first time in South Africa, we were there for a family wedding. The hotel and its grounds are so peaceful, which really allowed us to unwind, with walks around the lake and drinks watching the wildlife. A perfect balance to the anxiety that can come with travelling to a new country and all the exciting events that naturally come with weddings. At the end of the trip we had booked a couple of nights in a Lodge in Pilanesberg. We needed to check out of the Lodge 11am and our flight wasn't until 10pm. The staff at African Pride were kind enough to let us leave most of our luggage with them and stop off again to freshen up as we travelled from the lodge to the airport. Just one of the examples of how they made the stay as easy as possible for us.

One would get off at the Centurion Gautrain station. Then have to take a taxi at the station to the hotel. About R50 ($4) with an Uber.
