The food was great. I had the vegetarian lasagne. The Kitchen chef was extremely hospitable so was the rest of the staff. The lady at the front desk not as much. The venue is still being renovated so should be much better in a few months. The furniture in the bedroom is old and wearing out.Hopefully this will be updated. The plug points are behind the bed so not very accessible. The dinning room has plastic plants, hopefully these will be replaced by fresh plants.

please make sure you provide your visitors with fresh water in their rooms, when we arrived we were tired and was very hot cold water was required. after dinner we needed water to drink. Imagine drinking water from the bathroom.

Response from Laetitia van der Walt, General Manager at Magalies Mountain Lodge
Responded 08 Jan 2023
Thank you for your review. We have bottled water available in the restaurant, and water in the reception from the water-filter machine. As part of the complimentary refreshments, there is also water on tap in the restaurant that is infused with lemons. We are also only a phone call away if you needed assistance afterhours. Contact information is also available in the Room Directory booklets.

Had theeee BEST weekend ever, the place is situated at the bottom of a mountain and waking up every morning to such view its just too perfect. The stuff is really amazing and the hospitality there was just too perfect. Loved everything about the place and looking forward to another visit soon. will really recommend it to everyone for. The food amazing every day, you would with you can have everything on the menu. Kenny the guy who was taking care of us at the restaurant was just too good to be true, new everything about the kitchen and recommended great meals everyday, was just too amazing. Thank you Magalias mountain lodge for the great amazing service, from the spa, rooms, reception I mean everything was perfected. I love this place...

Jacuzzi definitely needs a good bleaching if I can be critical.
The rooms need a bit of a facelift too.
The spa was wonderful and all treatments were enjoyed
The restaurant was great!Good food at affordable prices
Although the rooms and jacuzzi need some work we will definitely be back because the staff was exceptional from reception,to the spa and the restaurant

I had booked room number 1 for my wife's 40th birthday and added the romantic package to make it even more special. There was a gas leak which needed to be addressed and we were told that the earliest we could be moved to another unit was the next day.

The next day we saw no. 10 and my wife asked the reception if we could be moved there to which she received a short and unaccommodating reply that the next guests had already seen it. How? Why would you even show someone their room whilst (or probably before) it was being cleaned?

All in all, I am not happy. I think I paid a lot of money and the unfortunate hiccup with the gas had not been dealt with with the necessary diligence and urgency - initially quite apparent in the need to escalate the matter twice and reiterated by the lack of interest in entertaining a room swop or making up for the inconvenience in another way.

For us personally it was being back there for the 2nd time. Our room that we had with the 1st visit was amazing in comparison with the room we had this time. Our soap dispensers weren't replaced and all the rooms need a shower to easily wash off the treatments. Also supply some shampoo and conditioner since you also do scalp and Inidan Head Massage treatments. My suggestion would be to place something between room 6 and 7 for more privacy. Install a draining mechanism in the hot tub room to avoid walking into a room full of water or replace with deck planks so the water can run through the cracks. It is really all just suggestions, we have no complaints about the actual visit or the staff and over-all experience. The kitchen staff is AMAZING though!

Our stay at Magalies Mountain Lodge was a tranquil, relaxing, well serviced and catered for experience. The spa offers top quality treatments, pool well maintained and restaurant makes it feel very homey - staff here were very tentative and pleasant and food was delicious. Only an hour away from Joburg but felt like we were away in the mountains and in the heart of nature and stillness. Only improvement could be for better wifi signal in the rooms as signal can be patchy. Thank you for a most delightful stay and we can't wait to return to this amazing place!

This lodge is situated in such a beautiful area but it unfortunately really needs an upgrade! Upon arrival, we were welcomed at reception with a friendly smile and well organised itinerary. Everything was clearly explained and we were looking forward to our first massage scheduled that evening. We booked into the room, which was nice and clean and had everything one needed for the weekend stay. Perhaps those little hotel milk cartons could be considered though in each room?

The staff, as well as the massage therapists were extremely friendly and everything seemed to be on time. The massages were really lovely and professional and we felt relaxed! I do feel, however, that the spa could do with some upgrades. The rooms feel a little clinical/hospital-like. Some nice curtains and dimmer lighting could do wonders. The covers used on the beds were rather stained and dirty and most of the time we had to adjust the toweling around the "face holes" to avoid getting uncomfortable lines from the bed. Comfort goes a long way!

After our massages, we were off to dinner at the restaurant. Once again, we were welcomed with a friendly smile. BIG NOTE - you need to take your own alcohol if you want a glass of wine or two with your dinner as they do not serve alcohol. The restaurant decor could do with some sprucing up but all in all not too bad. We really did not enjoy our dinners at all unfortunately. I think a more focused and fresh menu would be wonderful here. Our poor host that evening was the only staff in the restaurant that night, so I really think they need more help on that front.

Breakfast were really nice but lunch was disappointing.

The hike was beautiful and serene! Once again - such a beautiful setting!

It is certainly a relaxing place to be and the actual lodge itself has so much potential!!

Staff was very friendly, our room was clean and comfortable. The food menu was not focused on healthy as one would expect on a Yoga retreat, menu very average and far too many unhealthy choices and the same food you would prepare at home, boring. Breakfast no choice and the tinned fruit starter was quite a shocker as not fresh, also no choice of a health juice or an juice of any kind. The Yoga was repetitive and the Meditation far to long. Our Spa experience unfortunately was also not the best on average for a weekend we were really looking forward to it was very average.

It was the best relaxation I had for a year, forgot all my worries. The staff was great especially the kitchen staff, they know how to spoil a person especially DENAY.
The rooms could be cleaner especially the Rondavel.
