WOW! Kievits Kroon went way beyond my expectations. I must say I am very particular when it comes to hospitality, dining and spa facilities. We were treated with such high standard of service from the moment we arrived. A special thanks to Yvette for advising on the perfect package for my husband and I. Sonto our amazing waiter, Phetty our spa hostess and Silvy the Chef for her 5 star cousine and reccomendations. I read some reviews prior to booking and had a few concerns about slow service, rooms ect. I can say that such fine dining and exquisite food is definitely worth the wait and with there being options of 2 and 3 course meals allow enough time between your meals and spa treatments. The attention to detail is something that really blew me away in terms of rooms and facilities. The ambiance is warm, cosy and memorable. It does not feel like you are in gauteng. The room was spacious and clean and the amenities were far more than we expected (even natural insect repellent), again every fine detail being well thought out and provided. The spa is exquisite and newly renovated. There is an amazing relaxation lounge where you are treated to complimentary canape' style eats and beverages. The spa hostess was very accommodating when I needed to change my appointments around.

The best covid protocols I have experienced thus far! We felt extremely comfortable with the different seating time slots, open tables in between, the waiters Sanitize everything in front of you and the general cleanliness of the whole place.

The only thing I would reccomend is having the spa, restaurant and hotel communicate an accurate itinerary per guest booking to get the best out of the experience.

Overall a wonderful experience

I will definitely be going back soon for another celebration based on the chefs reccomeneded gaurmet picnic and fine dining experience. Thank you!

While the staff were very friendy and helpful, sadly the hotel itself has seen better days and is in need of an urgent makeover and upgrade and some tighter managment.. While the gardens are immaculate, the buildings had a distinctly ''run down" feeling about them. My room was spacious but the bedside lights didnt work and the towels were old and threadbare. Room cleaning was not up too scratch with the room only being made up late into the afternoon, the tea/coffee and bottled water not replaced, etc.. Breakfast and lunch buffet was also not up to standard with food running out and taking a long while for the kitchen staff to bring out more.. Waiters were slothful and uninvolved and the table linen and cutlery has seen better days.. All in all, a lovely venue but one that needs a facelift ..

Dear Gastragnome, Thank you for taking the time to give us this feedback. While we are pleased that you found the staff friendly and helpful, and the gardens immaculate, we take note of your concerns re the buildings and the room and assure you that we are busy addressing them. We are awaiting delivery of our order of new linen and towels and will follow this up urgently. Our maintenance team has been alerted about the bedside lamps and our housekeeping department is addressing the cleaning of the room and replacement of tea/coffee and bottled water. I am disappointed to have let you down with poor service that is not the norm for our team and apologise for the inconvenience it caused. Our F&B management will address the concerns re the waiters and the service of the food. We hope that you will notice an improvement when next you visit us. FRANCOIS STREMMELAAR, GENERAL MANAGER

We stayed 1 night. There was construction happening but this did not bother us at all. The check-in was fast, even with the covid-19 procedures.
When we arrived at our room, there was a sticker saying that it was covid cleaned. This was good as you have some sort of comfort knowing that the room is safe. When we entered, the room smelled like smoke (cigar), I initially thought that it was as a result of the covid cleaning, but after a few minutes we saw that outside on an outside table, there was an ashtray and inside the ashtray, there were cigars that were smoked. I realised that just next to the table and chairs, was the outside aircon unit, the aircon was on inside and the smoke was pulled into the room. Not sure if the previous person/s that stayed in the room was smoking or somebody else, but this to me was a small detail and I contacted the reception to report and request a new room. This was done within minutes and we were moved to a wonderful room that was smelling like flowers, so refreshing.
The breakfast the next day was probably the best breakfast I had in a very long time. There was a great variety of food to chose from and we were very happy with it and the service was great. The staff was also friendly.

Good day Eva,

I write this email with a heavy heart.

After booking luxury room for 11 th Feb , together with booking 7 course meal for the night of 11 th February , I am very unhappy about the hotel service, the lack of organisation and the general bad treatment my husband and I received.

We arrived at 13.10 on the day of 11 Feb and were received at reception by a lady called Linah.
We got allocated room 97 of which it had maintained issues , namely , no functional door lock mechanism and phone was off line so we could not phone reception to alert them of door malfunction.

We resorted to phoning reception from our cell phone..

Then , A gentleman called Levi wanted to give us a lower priced room which we declined and he finally allocated us room 93. Now this room 93 had a seat with fabrics that was torn and in need of fresh upholstery!

Then we got ready for dinner.

Arrived at restaurant at 6.30 sharp only to find that the host is unaware of our booking for the 7 course dinner.

This host was very unprofessional and didn’t not know how to handle guests when there is a dispute or misunderstanding

. She told that there is no 7 course booking for (black ) people on that night and that the only 7 course booking was for (white) people. This statement I find RACIST!

Then , we were sent back to reception to enquire about our ‘missing’ 7 course meal booking.

On arrival there we were told by the gent: Levi , that EVA had not completed our dinner booking and that there were no ingredients to make that 7 course meal for us.

At this stage , my husband and I were very disappointed as we had an email confirmation of stay and dinner both of which were fully paid.

We were then made to sit at the restaurant without any one offering us something to drink or even not offered something as small as bread while we wait.

What was most disturbing as we were left neglected was that a (white ) couple that arrive 30 minutes after us were offered bread and drinks as we just stood there.

Also amazing was that there were ingredients available to make dinner for the white couple?????

We ultimately returned to reception and asked to be checked out of the hotel the same night of 11 th Feb .

The service we received is the poorest we have Eva seen and we’re very unhappy.

I request a refund for room and a refund for 7 course meal.

Regards
Dr S Dlangamandla-Mokoka

We stayed just for a night. The rooms are spacious, and pre-sanitized for Covid safety. I found the price of accommodation very reasonable, but the money spent on lunch, dinner and drinks was expensive. Dinner was really great though (with compliments to the chef), and breakfast was awesome. I particularly enjoyed the surprise of champagne and oysters, which one doesn’t find for breakfast in most places.

There were some renovations being done, but that wasn’t too much of a disturbance.

Enjoyed the outside feeling of it, with the rolling green lawns and open spaces.

Keivits Kroon is so close to Pretoria and an easy drive from Joburg but you really feel you have entered a different world when you arrive. Feels like a wine estate in the Western Cape which would be a much longer drive!

Apart from the lovely grounds the room we stayed in - Junior Suite - was really lovely, a private cottage.

The food at the restaurant was also great despite all the complications involved due to COVID 19 precautions such as a buffet breakfast where a member of staff has to be your assistant to collect from the buffet whilst you guide them from a safe distance!

Most of all the reservation and reception staff were extremely helpful and friendly and went out of their way to ensure we had a lovely stay event replying to emails late at night!

I recently stayed here for business and the wifi is none existent. No wifi in the room, open spaces and conference rooms - it kept dropping out. Multiple energy power outages, not all of them attributed to load shedding. As a business, you need to have a generator and provide wifi instead of leaving your customers in the dark, literally. Accommodation is not 4 star, tears in the curtains for example. There are multiple types of birds around the property which is quaint but the amount of poo outside my room door on a daily basis is not acceptable. The staff have a laissez-faire approach, very unorganised. Bar unattended so you struggle to get served, wine was constantly warm. The food provided was buffet, from breakfast through to dinner. None of the dishes were labelled so you had no idea what the dishes were. Also not great for the vegetarians in the group. Outside space is lovely and if you were here on a private trip the picnics looked lovely, as did the spa facilities. No help with your luggage and the accommodation is spread over a large area. I wouldn't rush back!

Having travelled all over SA I have not had a more personalised experience from being greeted at check in to the Head Chef coming to ask me what i would like prepared for dinner/breakfast. A vegetarian or vegan knows too well that most times we get the sides (creamed spinach and butternut) offered to us as a meal.Well not here there is a delightful vegan menu available and if you don’t like anything in it, the chefs are happy to oblige. My guests and I dined in the wine room and were treated to complimentary chef’s starters. The food was outstanding in presentation and taste. The estate is beautiful with manicured gardens and a chapel which is perfect for summer weddings. There is a conference centre and a spa offering day packages as well as other treatments. Whilst there I saw a couple picnic on the lawn so was tempted to look at their picnic basket offerings on the website. Just wished I had more time. I had the choice of the executive room or the luxury room. I chose the luxury room as it is more private. Fresh crisp white linen, comfy duvet and pillows , sufficient toiletries in the bathroom. There was nothing to complain about. I just simply loved my stay. You will be forgiven if you thought you were on a wine estate somewhere in the Cape as that’s the feeling you get when you arrive here.

We came here for a weekend, our room was dirty, the terrace door looked like it was never cleaned, the mirror was full of sticky finger prints. The pool in the spa was extremely noisy even though before you get an access you sign a document about keeping it silent , but there was nobody to control. Water in the pool was full of oily yellow foam, it looked disgusting. The girl at the reception promised to get it cleaned but next day it was exactly the same. The massage we took was the worst we ever had, plus after the session they were very insistently pushing us to buy their products.
Food was average, once we had to call the chef to change the meal as it was not good. They did not have the half of the wines from the wine list. We won’t come back.

Dear Kyara, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. My apologies that it has taken a long time to respond. Feedback be it positive or negative is very important to us. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve our offering as well as our service levels. In addition, it helps us to identify important training needs as we aim to always exceed guest expectations. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. I take note of your feedback and humbly apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of. I have made a note and will ask one of my management team to keep your information on file ready as I would like to invite you back for a stay on our account when we are ready to showcase the above-mentioned. Hope the above meets your approval and that we will meet again soon. Sincerely, Francois Stremmelaar GENERAL MANAGER

I surprised my husband with a get away to Kievits Kroon. Unfortunately we could not be there in time to get dinner at the restuarant as we have twins and needed to make sure they are in bed and settled.

That was no problem for the staff at Kievits Kroon. They organised room service for us making sure we get each meal when we were ready, warm and fresh. Everything was so beautiful and the staff so friendly.

Thanks for helping us make our day extra special. Will recommend them to anyone!
