It is with great disappointment that I have to write this review, especially in view of the fact that only 7 months ago, I wrote a review about the same venue that was in stark contrast with this one.
My husband and I had such a spectacular evening during our first visit in May 2019. With this in mind, I took the liberty to invite friends to celebrate New Year's eve at this establishment, expecting a wonderful evening of live entertainment and fine cuisine.

First of all, there was really no festive atmosphere like one would expect for an event like this. It was after all a celebration of the new year. The entertainment started very late, at 20h45 and only consisted of 3 waiters performing. This was in direct contrast with the expectation created on the advertisement of the event which clearly showed 9 waiters. Although the quality of singing was exceptional, there was not a lot of it. If I remember correctly, about 7 songs in total. When asked if they could perform more songs, I was told by the waiter that it was not possible.

The service by our waiter, Respect, was also below standard and therefore I did not give an additional tip. On numerous occasions, we had to call other waiters, because he was nowhere in sight. My husband's food was ice cold when it arrived and when the waiter brought it back, he did not replace the cutlery. The quality of the food was definitely also below the high standard that we are used to from this establishment.

Throughout the evening, I felt like the staff just wanted to get rid of us and that the whole function was almost like a drag to them. It felt as if they were never in control of the roll out of the evening. Since we also invited two guests, it was kind of embarrassing how the evening panned out.

The establishment requested an advance payment for the dinner and it stated on the receipt that the amount included a 10% gratuity for the singing waiter. Our waiter did not perform at the event, which was kind of confusing, because I was under the impression that this is what makes this restaurant unique: the fact that all the waiters on a particular evening, was going to perform.

It seems that on this evening, the company's interest in profits overshadowed customer satisfaction.

Based on this experience, I will most certainly not be visiting this establishment again and also will not be recommending it to others,

Good day Annelie I do apologise for your experience that was not up to your expectations. We unfortunately in the afternoon received cancellations from a few of our performers, making the production close to impossible. We did do everything in our power to still offer an evening with entertainment, and we hired the services of a professional dj to entertain the guests in between the entertainment sets. I will definitely take the service aspect up with the managers of the evening, as our waiters are all trained up to standard so service from your waiter should not have been lacking.

I really loved staying here, it was supposed to be a couples stay but my daughter was still young and they accommodate her without any hesitation. They took the time to make a heart shaped out of rose petals on the bed leading to the bath tub. Champagne and a 3 course meal which was amazingly delicious.

We had an amazing experience there. Started with a full spa treatment which was great, our therapists Mpho and Clara were absolutely amazing, then we had lunch we had the beef fillet and the pork neck steak and they were both perfectly cooked and tasted amazing. In the evening we enjoyed our supper with the great live performances by the waiters. Beautiful beautiful experience .

Joined another couple for our wedding anniversary and a stay over at the guesthouse. We specifically asked for the singing waiters when we booked in advance. Guess what, no singing waiters on the evening. We asked for a spa bath, guess what the sap bath in our room wasn't working and there was no hot water. Food quality doesn't match the price. The plates are really beautifully prepared but lacked seriously in quality and taste. A huge disappointment for a very expensive evening.

The good - the staff was friendly and welcoming. The rooms were typical 3-4 star with comfy beds and great linen and they put us in rooms all next to each other. Breakfast was lovely with a good variety and the gardens was pretty and well kept. Thank you for the water in the minibar.
The bad - it was raining and the lodge did non have a lounge or an area for just hanging out all together. In the end we landed in the restaurant (not exactly what we had in mind). The rooms are a bit 'tired' as well as the bathrooms. As it was raining there were some kind of worms agains my wall. I guess its nature but I have a phobia and do not welcome nature into my room. Maybe this could be checked out more frequently during rainy days..?

What a disaster. I would not give this Spa one star.

Sub-standard treatments, interior not up to tankard, had to walk through kitchen to get to room for Mediheel. Only had instant coffee therapist did not have all neccessary prepared. Went out of room. Could not stop talking. I can go on and on............

Just not worth the money. Disappointing all over.
Gave them another go but can see staff is just not motivated.
Decor and style just old fashion and dated. Owner not very nice at all, no wonder the staff is not motivated!

Attended a show at the Blou Hond venue. Don't have anything good to say (I guess the music was OK - not the supporting act, though). Overall impression is that they see this event as an excuse to print money - they minimise their outlay, charge high prices, squeeze in tables creating a safety hazard, provide zero service - and do not care at all about the customer experience.

- Enquired about the menu ahead of time to find that it was an unappealing buffet of mainly starch-based unhealthy unappealing food. A request to accommodate dietary restrictions or to skip the meal was refused (same price of almost R300 payable whether one chose to eat or not).
- Glass of wine cost R55 - going rate for this quality of wine at much higher end establishments not more than R40. Struggled to find anyone to serve it.
- Was seated behind a huge pillar so had no visibiiltiy of the stage for the performance.
- Tables were crammed so close together that it was impossible to navigate between them while everyone was seated - could only get past while people were queuing at the inaccessible buffet area upstairs - good luck if you want to use the bathrooms! Not to mention the extreme safety hazard this created...
- Buffet was even worse than it looked on paper - stodgy, tasteless, unappetising, unhealthy - institutional food at its worst. Only scraps were left when we went to get dessert. Coffee was cold.
- The supporting act was appalling - a total embarrassment.

The price of the tickets is so disproportionate to the experience and the value offered and is a complete disgrace. This is clearly an establishment that holds its clientele in contempt, assuming that they will be happy to shell out and meekly accept bad food, bad service, discomfort and safety risks in return.

Good day We are extremely disappointed that you did not enjoy the Blou Hond experience that we offer weekly. We did offer to purchase Kosher meals in for you, but unfortunately is was at an extra cost and the lady that did the booking declined the offer. We will certainly make sure to improve our service to our customers and value your response and suggestions. Regards Anette Burden

We arrived quite late in the evening to an ice cold room. One would think the room air conditioner (which is prehistoric) would have been set to warm up the room. The fact that the room and bathroom is all tiled makes the room very uninviting and of course freezing.
The bed was made up terribly. The blanket was not tucked in and with a couple of turns well the linen was a mess.
For a 'claimed' 4 star accommodation, three items stood out like a sore thumb. Firstly the bathroom towels were BONE DRY!! It is as-if someone left them in the sun for two weeks. It was like wiping yourself against the bark of a tree. Not even ironed!! I called the following morning to request soft new towels and was handed with new towels in exactly the same condition. Staff claiming that they do not have dryers. I assume she speaks of a tumble dryer. Secondly again for a 4 star how on earth do you supply your guests with 1 ply toilet paper. Terrible....
The air conditioner makes such a huge noise in the room one has to put the television on maximum volume to hear anything.
Thirdly, extraction fans in bathrooms are put it when no ventilation is available...there is a huge window in the bathroom....on a cold evening the extraction fan actually draws in cold air...very very stark bathroom...
Overall terrible experience and for R 1 550 per night!!! Will never stay the again neither will it ever be recommended.
About 1 hr after leaving the following morning i received and email from the General Manager thanking us for the patronage and hoping our experience was a lovely one!! What a cheek!! The general manager wasn't even there on check out to establish whether we had a good evening or not....but there was two ladies at the counter that didn't even bother to say thank you or ask how our stay was. Pathetic service!!
