We are staying here with a group of 60 teenage boys and 10 staff, whilst on tour and attending another event.

We have the entire premises to ourselves. Our staff are accommodated in clean, decent rooms with en suite bathrooms and the boys are in dorm style rooms (with bedding) with shared ablutions.

There are ample amenities (vending machine, plus a self service kitchen) which we can use as we see fit.

The guest house has prepared some of the meals for us. So far, it has been tasty and wholesome.

There is free wifi, so we can get some work done in-between and the boys are obviously happy too.

It is winter now, but there is a pool for the summer and a large stone pizza oven, which we will hopefully be trying out soon.

Centrally located in Hatfield, there is secure parking for our large coach, as well as for other cars, we are very close to the hustle and bustle of the city’s university district, yet the guest house is quiet and tucked away in a side street.

A brilliant choice for any school or touring groups of students. We will return here.

I stumbled across Khayalethu by accident when two friends and I had to stay in Hatfield for a week, sorting out visas for the next part of our travels.

It was definitely more expensive than we'd being paying for the average hostel/b&b during our travels across Africa but the facilities and extras that came with the stay made it totally worth it and we thoroughly enjoyed our time here.

There were three of us and we were given a clean, spacious room for up to six people but had the room to ourselves for the whole week. There were lockers in the rooms, the rooms were cleaned regularly and there were several communal bathrooms and wcs.

There was also common areas and at that time, the b&b was doing pizza nights several days a week over stone ovens - you could choose your own toppings and they were absolutely delicious and good value for money.

Breakfast is included in the room price. It's a buffet but hands down one of the best breakfast set ups I've seen. There was fresh coffee/ tea and selection of juices everyday, a chef ready to cook a traditional fry up if you wanted and different hot foods each day ranging from muffins to sausage rolls and museli, yoghurt and fresh fruit if you wanted to be healthy.

The only downside I'd say is they should have a bigger breakfast room as because the breakfast is so good, people seemed to stay longer and enjoy the meals. Also, they have a reception area but on almost every occasion I went to the reception, there was no one there.

This has a great location if you need to be at the high performance center pr the university . It is very convenient if you are flying in and out and don't want to spend too much on hiring a car. From the Gautrain to the accommodation is about 5 min walk.

I stayed here because I had heard the breakfast is amazing. It was good - there are lots of options and you can order French toast, omelets, toasties, and eggs. There’s also fresh brewed coffee, which is nice in a country where instant coffee is the norm. I had a hot shower with great water pressure, but my friend who showered at the same time didn’t get any hot water. I could only find one toilet for the 5 dorm rooms in our building and it didn’t have paper or soap. I stayed in an 8 bed dorm with three friends and it felt pretty institutional. Although there were other guests, there wasn’t a social vibe. No one was in the common areas. It’s quiet and could be good if you want solitude, but I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re trying to meet people. I switched to a different backpacker after a night. My recommendation is to stay down the street at 1322, which is similarly priced but friendlier and more fun with more comfortable beds.

Our room was very neat and spacious and the rates charged were so reasonable. The owners were very hands on and made sure that everybody had so much tasty food at breakfast. The home made hash brows were fantastic. The guesthouse was very comfortable and well equipped. We will defintely stay there again

We stayed with a large group. The chef was sick, so had to organise pizzas on arrival. In the morning, with all of us and others guests turning up for breakfast resulted in a an exceptionally slow service for anything cooked, as the management tried to do their best. In the end we cancelled our cooked order as we had waited around 30-minutes. Room were good, although not modern. Is Ok for a short stay.

I loved the room it was spacious and clean. I stayed for one night, I was checked in by the cleaning lady and till I checked out the following day did not see anyone in the reception area to assist me. I had to constantly go to the back/kitchen to get help or info from the cleaning lady. The location is good as it is near Gautrain.

This guest house is conveniently located, a stone's throw away from the Gautrain station in Hatfield. However, for R500 a night, the service is not very great. The rooms are basic, with only one towel provided, the bedding is clean, but the color is not appealing and breakfast is basic, toast here and some scrambled eggs there. I wasn't able to connect to the wifi on any of my gadgets during the my stay, and when I reported this to the owner/manager he blamed the fault on my gadgets ( which have connected to wifi in different locations without any problems) and didn't take any action to check if the fault was on their router. I also spotted a couple of mosquitos in my room and when I asked the house keeper for either a mosquito net or repellent was told there wasn't any available.

Hi Thanks for your opinion. Something that interests me is your opinion about our breakfast as the rate at R550 / night includes breakfast. As a single traveller do you expect more than one towel in the room ? The router and Wi-Fi are offered as a free service. Other guests were using the Wi-Fi, while I was trying to assist you with your settings. This service is intended for email and research, and could be charged for, you seem to think it is a given, and should be a free service. I must apologise if there was no bug repellent for the mosquitos, had you of asked management we would have certainly supplied our cleaning staff with some. In my opinion our rooms are of a good standard and recently revamped. You must be a bit out of touch with the cost of living in South Africa, as R500 or R550 / night is on the cheaper side for accommodation. If I scan your other reviews, it would seem that the tone of the review you gave us is in line with the other reviews you have posted. Regards Scott
