A beautiful place to stay in the heart of leafy Newlands. Choose from the spacious Loft Studio, with kitchenette, open thatch and balcony over the stream, or the peaceful River Room, with private deck over the stream. We offer serviced, en suite, self-catering accommodation, which includes a light help yourself breakfast. (A Continental platter can be arranged on request, with pleasure.) Sun Cottage is set in a unique lush and tranquil garden where the Newlands Stream meets the historic Liesbeek River. It has been described as "A piece of paradise in the centre of Newlands." Secure, off street parking leads to a private entrance. Walk to top village restaurants, trendy coffee shops, galleries and boutiques, University of Cape Town, Cavendish Square, Newlands Cricket and Rugby, Sports Science Institute and Vineyard Hotel. 10 minutes (10 kms) from town and the Waterfront, 20 minutes (15 kms) from the airport.

My husband and I have stayed at Sun Cottage twice over a two year period for up to two weeks at a time. We have stayed in both the River Room and the Loft Room and could not recommend them both highly enough! The second visit was with my parents and 9 month old daughter and our hosts catered for all of our needs without question making our stay extremely comfortable and a second home for our baby who settled into the surroundings in no time! The location is perfect and peaceful with food, wine and shopping within walking distance and with a short, easy drive you will be in the heart of the city and waterfront. We absolutely loved staying there and can't wait to return to catch up with the lovely hosts and further explore the magnificant city that is Cape Town.

We absolutely loved our stay at Sun cottage, we booked the river room which is so quaint and romantic for a couple who want a peaceful break and down time. The room was larger than most hotel rooms and the bathroom was always well serviced every day. I loved that the products were not cheap mass produced toiletries. The breakfast items put out were scrumptious, especially the muesli and biscuits and we loved sitting outside with a cup of coffee in the morning under the avocado tree. Thank you for making our stay so hospitable, it definitely ended our trip on high spirits after being disappointed at "bigger named" hotels. Sometimes it's in the little touches and I think that's what Sun cottage has! Will definitely consider booking again next time in Cape Town.

We recently spent a few days in Cape Town and thoroughly enjoyed staying at Sun Cottage. We were warmly welcomed by the charming hosts and showed to the Loft suite which is a fabulous room with a thatch roof, Cape Dutch style and extremely comfortable. Shops and restaurants are within walking distance as are the foothills of Table Mountain. Very convenient location with easy access to major roads. Highly recommended, we would always sqtay there when in Cape Town.

Sun Cottage Loft Room is my ideal space to use when visiting Cape Town. It offers stylish comfort and privacy as well as a peaceful exterior of a small forest and mountain stream providing the sense of being away from the rush of the city. The city is however close enough to reach your business or leisure purposes.

We totally loved our stay at Sun cottage! It was a home away from home. It's a beautiful setting and very conveniently located. The loft room was perfect for our needs and the hosts, Jean & Mike, were so friendly and hospitable. They made us feel very comfortable and even let us use their lovely garden when we needed to let our 20 month old son expend some toddler energy. We will definitely stay again at Sun Cottage next time we're back in the Mother City and will be recommending it to all our friends.

Stayed there for a week with the family and used both rooms. The cottage is comfortable, clean and well equipped. The owners live in the same house, though we hardly saw them. The rooms were cleaned daily, the beds were comfortable, the towels and bed linen were of good quality. There are basic cooking facilities which we did not use. This is a self catering cottage and no breakfast is offered. However, there are two good cafes serving excellent breakfast only a short walk away on the corner of Main Str and Kildare Rd. Melissa is a well known chain of deli shops and cafes but our preferred choice was Cassis, which offers a wide choice of pastries, cooked breakfast and muesli. There are also two or three decent restaurants there and the Vineyard Hotel nearby offers excellent lunches and dinners.

We visited Australia recently for a relative's wedding and needed a spot close to where family live. Staying at Sun Cottage was like being at home - cosy, peaceful and topped by a very beautiful, leafy location. We have two children who just loved all that nature offers in the beautiful, vast garden that stretches down to the water. Ziggy, Jean's dog, was an absolute hit, not to mention the squirrels. The girls had to share the small double which is always a challenge with our our daughter who wriggles a lot...I saw a previous review that mentioned the size of the bed too and my only suggestion would be to include a larger bed in this room, or two singles (that could be pushed together for couples). Other than that - my husband and I enjoyed the atmospheric loft room, and the magic of nature all around. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Sun Cottage was our first three nights accomodation on arriving in South Africa and Jean made us feel at home straight away. My 9 year old son and I stayed in the upstairs double room over looking the small river out the back. A well appointed comfortable room with beautiful bed linen, plenty of towels, lots of space and a small fully equipped kitchen. The location is perfect for exploring Cape Town and Jean was on hand to answer any question I had about where to go and what to see. Newlands is a pretty part of Cape Town, sleepy in it's quiet beauty and a perfect base.

What a place. Beautiful sound of flowing water in the river and beautiful site of avocados hanging on that big tree! I had a pleasant stay even though Jean was away. I would have loved to meet her. I spent four (4) pleasant nights on leisure travel. Very easy access, short walking distance to restaurants that served my needs so well. Staff were helpful with transport arrangements and places to go.
