Couples who want to get married: please be aware that The Moon & Sixpence let you pay for guests who are not attending your wedding!! Be informed not to make use of them! More than a month before our wedding date(7 Oct 2023), we gave our final guest total (less than we thought it would be) and they refused to pay our money back! They still owe us more than R12 000! The owner said we signed that we can't decrease the amount of guests, but we sent the contract that we signed to our lawyer who said there's no place in the contract that stipulates we're not allowed to decrease the minimum amount of guests! Our lawyer sent her a letter and gave her 14 days to pay our money back. The only way she can save the reputation of her wedding venue is to admit that she’s wrong and pay our money back!

Brides Beware!! If You Do Not Want To Lose Your Money – Stay Very Far Away! The Public Must Know What Happens When You Do Business With The Moon and Sixpence! It feels like, the owner of The Moon and Sixpence, will ensure that your special day is ruined, by ensuring that you pay for guests not coming to your wedding – even if you give notice more than 1 month before the event. Her own contract stipulates that you have until 15 days prior to the event to provide your final guest numbers and the final ADJUSTED account is payable 11 days prior to the event. (See image) This makes sense as the number of guests determines the catering orders. We thought we were good clients and paid in full the total amount before the due date. We gave notice of the final guest numbers from 100 to 75 more than 1 month before the event but seemingly this does not matter. Nowhere in her contract does clearly stipulate that you cannot reduce your minimum amount guests. How could it possibly be fair to pay for 25 guests not coming to the wedding when they did not incur any expense for those guests because notice was given more than a month before the event? We had our wedding on 7 Oct 2023 and now we will forever have our happy memory of our wedding overshadowed by, what feels like the greed of a wedding venue owner. It feels like she is intent on making the most money possible even if it's against her own contract. Now she refuses to refund the number of guests and claims that she is entitled to that money as she has fixed expenses – unacceptable as the number of guests does not have anything to do with fixed expenses, only the catering. Her response was that she would give us 40% of the money that she is effectively withholding from us without any just cause according to her own contract. Currently, she still owes us more than R12,000 and refuses to adhere to her own contract. She insists on going to court, in my opinion, I think she knows, she makes tons of money and will easily outspend us in a legal case. This feels like a typical example of someone stepping on people that she believes won't make any fuss because it will cost too much in legal fees. If you would like your special day to stay special then I would advise you to choose a different venue! Or be prepared to go to court in order to get the money owed to you. To think that the wedding cost over R90,000 and she is still hellbent on keeping the money owed to us without any just cause according to her own contract! I hope with this review that no other bride has the same experience – please beware!

The venue is run by an excellent team. The owner is overseeing the operations and knows her clients by the second time you come around to visit. We had a wedding on Saturday 11 March. All our specifics were taken care of by Thalita and her team. Thalita is the inhouse manager. She takes the brides through their paces and makes sure that moneys owed is paid and orders are given to suppliers. We slept over to be there bright and early for make up and hair. We were treated to breakfast and juice as we were getting ready. Bedrooms are perfectly appointed with aircon for those that gets too hot like me. The only thing really driving me crazy is the fact that there is no plug point close to any mirror to do your hair. The mirrors are also situated in the middle of the room so no light to put on make up. I know that the bridal suite has lots of plug points and lots of light but room no 3 has none.

We checked-in on the day of a wedding at a nearby venue. Had lunch outside under the trees which was superb. We go ready a left for the venue which was around 3km for Moon and Sixpence. The wedding was awesome and, on our return, around 22h30, no one was there to let us in. We hooted and phoned all the numbers on the website for around 15 minutes and then unfortunately had to travel back home on the East Rand in pouring rain. On my return at 05h45 the next morning to collect my belongings I was told 1. That the manager had forgot to tell the security guard there were guestts and 2. That the security saw us but was too scared to come out, behing 10 foot high steel gates. Very bad experience and unfortunately we will not return.

Our overall stay was wonderful. The staff was so friendly and very helpful, the room was nice and big and so beautiful...Loved the bath. 2 suggestions, 1 - make sure all soaps and things are in the room before we arrive, 2 - Maybe put some block out blinds in front of the doors. The porch lights from outside is very bright and light up the room too much. Someone that is light sensitive (like me) will have difficulty to sleep. I feel it was slightly over priced compared to the other places in the vicinity but we still enjoyed the stay.

We stayed one night as we had a wedding at a venue close by and although we just needed a place to sleep and a decent breakfast we were mistaken. The room was large comfortable and clean but there was no hot water in both the rooms we used. The breakfast was disgusting old eggs and bacon swimming in fat. Staff not interested in assisting with the simple request for cutlery. Toast was toasted hours before and the eggs were like rubber. I spend about 200 nights in hotels a year and I suspect there is a lack of management on duty and staff are not properly trained. Thank goodness it was just for one night.

We got a brilliant deal on a winter wedding and the day went off without any major glitches. Our co-coordinator was very involved, the staff there set up everything; from the candles in the chapel to the table setting, exactly the way we wanted. Thank you Moon and Sixpence!

I have always loved moon and sixpence, the setting is beautiful with massive gardens. We stayed the weekend and although the rooms are exceptionally spacious there are a couple of things that they could do to make it a little more energy efficient and a little more modern. The shower head can be changed to a bigger more efficient shower head and they can provide WiFi in the rooms. The breakfast is good and worth the money. Other than that a little more advertising to get the cyclists to pop in would be good considering so many are out and about in the area. The staff are phenomenal and I have to say thank you for making the weekend very special.

Stayed here midweek for one night. Thanks may be part of the problem for something that is I believe very wedding focussed. The room was very spacious and well kept. Large and comfortable. No problems there. The service was not great. Coffee machine did not work and a few petty things. Otherwise it was ok. I think it was just a midweek experience at a place that is really good over weekends.

When my wife decided to organize Christmas lunch, she spotted this restaurant which reminded her of an incredible wedding at this venue 13 years ago &, with the promise of a great menu, we booked.... WHAT A DISASTER!!! It would appear that getting the largest revenue for the owners was the driving force & certainly NOT for the customers’ enjoyment !! Firstly the tables were so packed together that it was difficult for the waiting staff to deliver to the tables - crammed in to get the most revenue. Lunch was at 12:30 & when I tried to order champagne as we arrived I was told that they “had only been 6 bottles in stock” so why on earth offer this on the specialized menu - 6 bottles for several hundred people - seriously?? The waiting staff had far too many large tables to attend to so it wasn’t their fault that the service was slow - but it certainly was Management‘s responsibly to ensure there were enough trained staff & not just numbers - the poor staff were running in circles & many appeared as if they had just been “bussed in for the day”!!! Starters were ok & to be honest only 2 of the items had taste. Next came main course....... and wish it hadn’t!! The meat - ALL of it - was tough & dried out!! The salmon was nice but the gammon was like leather & I really struggled to even CUT the chops - which also had small shards of bone as if they had been chopped with an axe - I know it wasn’t but that’s what everyone described it as!! Mostly inedible!! Desert wasn’t too bad actually. When you have a set menu for a confirmed number of people, how can you POSSIBLY run out of food - which I heard happened with some of your clients!! Then came the disaster of trying to pay for drinks. A queue of 6 angry & disappointed customers (including me) trying to get the credit card machine at the bar to work - which it didn’t!!!! Everyone spoke of their huge disappointment & vowed never to return!! One client, who had very fond memories of the venue when they got Married there 20 years ago, vowed never to return & with their home alarm system alerting them to a break-in, were angry the credit card system was faulty. Eventually they tried a 2nd machine - still same issues. Eventually I paid cash. And where was Management when we asked for them????...... nowhere to be seen!!! So on the whole experience I give a -1 .... yes a negative figure as that is the highest number I could give for this debacle!! and think McDonalds would have been a better experience!! The food was disgusting, the service terrible, the owners appearing to try to make a killing out of the one day with crammed tables, obviously no-one had checked or planned the champagne side, and the Management running the show were nowhere to be seen & didn’t arrive when several of us asked to see them to complain. A terrible experience which I hope no-one else ever experiences - thus this terrible review. Owners - I truly hope that the revenue from the R465 per head x the large number of people there was worth it as I doubt anyone else there will be returning.... Trust me - WE WON’T!!!!!
