Detailed Reviews
Our overall stay was wonderful. The staff was so friendly and very helpful, the room was nice and big and so beautiful...Loved the bath.
2 suggestions, 1 - make sure all soaps and things are in the room before we arrive, 2 - Maybe put some block out blinds in front of the doors. The porch lights from outside is very bright and light up the room too much. Someone that is light sensitive (like me) will have difficulty to sleep.
I feel it was slightly over priced compared to the other places in the vicinity but we still enjoyed the stay.

We attended a wedding and stayed over the night. It is very spacious and clean. Coffee and tea is provided in the rooms. Quite a lot of stairs to climb and depending on the room quite a walk with the luggage. The gardens are very beautiful. I would say a great venue for weddings. Check in was easy and we were shown our room. Parking is not at the rooms. There is a grass parking area or you can park close to reception which we did.

My family and I attended a wedding there this past weekend. The venue is lovely and the garden wedding we attended was beautiful. We encountered problems with unfriendly and unhelpful waitresses. There were no jugs of water/juice provided on the tables in the hall (I expect venues to provide water and juice at a bare minimum) We had to pointedly ask for jugs of water which they eventually brought to the tables. The air conditioners were not working and the hall was hot and stuffy for most of the afternoon. People pay a lot of money for venue hire, and for an important event like a wedding, the service levels need to be much better than what they were on Saturd

The venue is run by an excellent team. The owner is overseeing the operations and knows her clients by the second time you come around to visit. We had a wedding on Saturday 11 March. All our specifics were taken care of by Thalita and her team. Thalita is the inhouse manager. She takes the brides through their paces and makes sure that moneys owed is paid and orders are given to suppliers. We slept over to be there bright and early for make up and hair. We were treated to breakfast and juice as we were getting ready. Bedrooms are perfectly appointed with aircon for those that gets too hot like me. The only thing really driving me crazy is the fact that there is no plug point close to any mirror to do your hair. The mirrors are also situated in the middle of the room so no light to put on make up. I know that the bridal suite has lots of plug points and lots of light but room no 3 has none.

Brides Beware!! If You Do Not Want To Lose Your Money – Stay Very Far Away!
The Public Must Know What Happens When You Do Business With The Moon and Sixpence!
It feels like, the owner of The Moon and Sixpence, will ensure that your special day is ruined, by ensuring that you pay for guests not coming to your wedding – even if you give notice more than 1 month before the event.
Her own contract stipulates that you have until 15 days prior to the event to provide your final guest numbers and the final ADJUSTED account is payable 11 days prior to the event. (See image)
This makes sense as the number of guests determines the catering orders.
We thought we were good clients and paid in full the total amount before the due date. We gave notice of the final guest numbers from 100 to 75 more than 1 month before the event but seemingly this does not matter.
Nowhere in her contract does clearly stipulate that you cannot reduce your minimum amount guests.
How could it possibly be fair to pay for 25 guests not coming to the wedding when they did not incur any expense for those guests because notice was given more than a month before the event?
We had our wedding on 7 Oct 2023 and now we will forever have our happy memory of our wedding overshadowed by, what feels like the greed of a wedding venue owner. It feels like she is intent on making the most money possible even if it's against her own contract.
Now she refuses to refund the number of guests and claims that she is entitled to that money as she has fixed expenses – unacceptable as the number of guests does not have anything to do with fixed expenses, only the catering.
Her response was that she would give us 40% of the money that she is effectively withholding from us without any just cause according to her own contract.
Currently, she still owes us more than R12,000 and refuses to adhere to her own contract. She insists on going to court, in my opinion, I think she knows, she makes tons of money and will easily outspend us in a legal case.
This feels like a typical example of someone stepping on people that she believes won't make any fuss because it will cost too much in legal fees.
If you would like your special day to stay special then I would advise you to choose a different venue! Or be prepared to go to court in order to get the money owed to you.
To think that the wedding cost over R90,000 and she is still hellbent on keeping the money owed to us without any just cause according to her own contract!
I hope with this review that no other bride has the same experience – please beware!

Couples who want to get married: please be aware that The Moon & Sixpence let you pay for guests who are not attending your wedding!!
Be informed not to make use of them!
More than a month before our wedding date(7 Oct 2023), we gave our final guest total (less than we thought it would be) and they refused to pay our money back! They still owe us more than R12 000!
The owner said we signed that we can't decrease the amount of guests, but we sent the contract that we signed to our lawyer who said there's no place in the contract that stipulates we're not allowed to decrease the minimum amount of guests! Our lawyer sent her a letter and gave her 14 days to pay our money back.
The only way she can save the reputation of her wedding venue is to admit that she’s wrong and pay our money back!

We checked-in on the day of a wedding at a nearby venue. Had lunch outside under the trees which was superb. We go ready a left for the venue which was around 3km for Moon and Sixpence. The wedding was awesome and, on our return, around 22h30, no one was there to let us in. We hooted and phoned all the numbers on the website for around 15 minutes and then unfortunately had to travel back home on the East Rand in pouring rain. On my return at 05h45 the next morning to collect my belongings I was told 1. That the manager had forgot to tell the security guard there were guestts and 2. That the security saw us but was too scared to come out, behing 10 foot high steel gates. Very bad experience and unfortunately we will not return.

They have a small menu for their Sunday lunches but there's something for everyone. The food was of the highest quality made to perfection. Unfortunately it was a rainy day,so we were unable to really appreciate the beautiful gardens. The service was really quick though...almost too quick. :-) It's a really nice place to spend a quiet afternoon at with some close friends or family.

I was very surprised to see the variance in people's experiences at Moon and Sixpence where a family member got married after having chosen them. So, I thought I would add mine to give some balance.
I have stayed at plenty of really good and some not so good hotels in various parts of the world. The accommodation we had at Moon and Sixpence was simply just great. There wasn't anything I can think of that could have been improved upon.
The chapel worked very well but could do with better air conditioning on humid days. That might be just me though.
The reception hall was exactly what we were looking for. Not too big, private, in a beautiful surrounding and if I may say so, pretty upmarket in appearance.
The planning and serving staff all did a great job and we were very happy with the overall outcome of our wedding function.
We believe the value we got out of Moon and Sixpence was very good.
If you are still thinking about a venue you can put Moon and Sixpence on your short list with confidence.
We had a great time.

We stayed one night as we had a wedding at a venue close by and although we just needed a place to sleep and a decent breakfast we were mistaken. The room was large comfortable and clean but there was no hot water in both the rooms we used. The breakfast was disgusting old eggs and bacon swimming in fat. Staff not interested in assisting with the simple request for cutlery. Toast was toasted hours before and the eggs were like rubber. I spend about 200 nights in hotels a year and I suspect there is a lack of management on duty and staff are not properly trained. Thank goodness it was just for one night.

Oh dear Kelly, apologies for not responding to your queries. I am not sure through which other channels you tried to contact us, but I am afraid we did not receive them. I did not even know that we were contactable via Tripadvisor! Honestly thought it was a marketing "fishing" message from Tripadvisor and not from a potential guest. Thank you for thinking of contacting us and our sincere apologies for not replying to you sooner. Kind Regards, Cecilia, The Moon & Sixpence.
