Cradle moon is situated in a beautiful setting, I was a bit disappointed with the room, it is spacious, but the thatch leaked and dripped on the Main bed. There are no fans in the room so it was very hot in there. The breakfast was very good. I think the focus is more on the day visitors than the guest. Maybe there needs to be separate areas for day visitors and guests.
The restaurant within the Cradle Moon serves the most delicious burger. I couldn't believe the taste of that burger, it was so delicious. I won't mind going back just to have that same burger again. Thumbs up to the chef.
I visited twice in the month of September, both times with friends. On the first visit, being on a Saturday, the hiking trails were extremely busy. It was a mission finding parking. We did the 9km hike which was scenic, but a tad bit too long. As a result of the masses, game viewing was very poor. The second visit was on a Friday morning. It was quiet, and game viewing was excellent. We did the 5km hike which was not as scenic as the longer hikes around the dam, but also very nice. Both times, the restaurant experience was good, with the food being great, but service being very poor. The restaurant was well-priced and food portions were big.
Good for a day visit food is great, but be patient and order a few drinks while you wait. 3 Couples, 3 Rondawels - the rooms and bathrooms are spacious with a great patio to sit on. Shower/bath water has a strong pungent odour that puts you off from showering. Can't make use of the pool or sun loungers as it's usually filled with day visitors and is situated between the tables of a very busy restaurant. Wouldn't recommend going on a weekend as the lodge gets incredibly busy with day visitors filling the restaurant and activities, allowing guest little wiggle room and loads of randoms hanging around. The stay (apart from the breakfast) is not value for money and the lodge should consider building a second pool or facilities which can be used by guests only.
We decided to visit Cradle moon because we wanted to take one of the hikes and afterwards relax at the restaurant . We arrived at about ten o’clock on Sunday morning only to find all the parking areas filled to the brim with cars and more cars, there were So many people on the hiking trails some in large groups, not keeping social distance, not all wearing masks. We were totally overwhelmed by the amount of people allowed to enter. We could not find any parking and had to leave. Despite this they were still letting in tons of cars in at the gate. We feel that the management is not adhering to the COVID 19 rules of level three.
