TERRIBLE!!!
I was left stranded at the airport after 22 hours of travel. All flight details and transfers were confirmed with the lodge numerous times and reassured all is in order.
My pick up was booked for 16h30 the afternoon and nobody was there.
When I phoned to find out where my pick up was, the person at the Lodge had NO idea who I was. I had to repeat my name and surname 5 times and spell it 3 times and then they tell me that it would take at least another 20 minutes for someone to pick me up as I have only just booked the transfer. The transfers were booked and confirmed in writing by the Lodge (Jimmy, to be exact), 24 August 2016 already. My booking was for 19 September 2016. Only at 18h20 I got a call back from Jimmy, asking if he should still pick me up. This almost 2 hours later from what was booked and that I would still have to wait another 20min if I still needed a pick up.
Needless to stay, I never stayed at this Lodge!
Now, a week later, NO apology and I am still waiting on my full refund.
Proof of payment was sent to the Lodge, 04 September 2016, 17 September 2016 and again 26 September 2016.
The only response I got, was that they would only refund me if I could prove that I made the payment. What more do they want if this was sent 3 times already???
AVOID, AVOID, AVOID !!!

poor and unlabelled amenities, (no shampoo,no soap). spider webs on walls, thorough cleaning neglected . no back up power for electric outages, had to request candles from reception. Highly unprofessional staff at reception, they were unaware that we were checking in . The lodge phone number on the website is none existant and does not go through. The floor carpets are stained and dirty, floor tiles would be possibly be better. There is seriously lack of proper management or effective overall policies from owners. The only positive for us was proximity to the airport. Until major refurbishment is done, I cannot recommend the guesthouse

1. We tried to call this guest house using the phone number provided on the booking confirmation, we got a message advising us the number no longer existed so we went to the owner of the guest house we were already staying in near Kruger Park who also tried the provided number & also received the same message we did. He tracked down a mobile number & tried to speak to them but there was a language problem. 2. Upon arrival at the guest house I went to pay the money owing by using our MasterCard credit card but was told that they only take cash, the booking confirmation stated Visa, Euro/MasterCard were accepted. We had no cash on us so we had to be driven to an ATM. 3. We asked what time was dinner & where will it be. We were told that lunch & dinner were not available even though the booking confirmation advised that both lunch & dinner were available at an extra cost. We asked what can we do for dinner & we were given a bunch of take-away brochures, we chose Domino's Pizza - how do we contact them as there was no phone number on their brochure, a phone number was tracked down, we were not allowed to use the office phone but had to use my own mobile, the problem with that I no longer had a Sth Africa sim card & the phone call had to go via Australia. The pizza was ordered, I asked how do we know when it will be here was told reception would come to our room & get the money plus a tip. 4. The room we booked was a family room for a max. 4 people - that is not what we got, we got a small double room with a double bed - very squeezy. 5. The room had no a/con or ceiling fan but there was a small heater/cooling fan which was in the room which we had to sit on a chair to try & get some breeze. 6. Went to have a shower but there was no hot water so had to walk up to the reception to find out why. 7. The booking confirmation stated that there was satellite TV but all we got was a TV that only had 2 channels which were very snowy & impossible to watch asked why & was told someone will be in tomorrow to fix the problem. 8. Our booking confirmation stated that there was a phone in the room which we never found. 9. The shower had panels missing so a shower curtain was in their place but the curtain didn't come to the floor so the bathroom got very wet & slippery.
The room was clean & the room did have a small fridge, a free wifi password was provided.
Breakfast was excellent. The shuttle bus was at the airport waiting for us.

OK place to stay if you are transiting through Jo’burg to somewhere else and as long as your expectations aren’t very high. It’s certainly not the affordable luxury it advertises. It looks rather rundown and the room was basic but clean. The bathroom had a corner bath, shower, wc and wash basin. We didn’t test its claims that it’s within walking distance of shopping malls and restaurants. The staff managed to rustle us up pork chop, chips and salad but had to go shopping to get us a bottle of wine for our dinner.
No aircon only a fan and judging by the construction of the building it could get very hot in the summer. The walls were very thin so you could hear noise in adjoining rooms.
The big plus is its proximity to the airport and offers a free airport transfer. We had booked a pick-up but there was no-one to meet us and I had to telephone to ask where Jimmy was. He did at least arrive 10 minutes later.
NB make sure you give them your phone number and you ask for Jimmy’s number too.

The staff was very friendly and helpfull with an efficient and safe airport transport. However, the rooms look rundown and neglected. Our television did not work and shower curtains that hang onto 5 rings only gets stuck on you while showering. Carpets looked bit stained, and therefore feels dirty. Comfortable beds, but no plug for the bedstand lamp, so no reading before bed. We left to early for breakfast so do not know what that will be like. You would expect a bit more luxury for the price per person.

We stayed at the place on 25-26 July for an overnight stay at Joburg, What a dump! The place is old, run down. The bathroom was moldy, there was no place to hook up towels. We needed someone for the password for wifi and could not find anyone, needed to get a water bottle and the same happened.
Only 2 good things to say: They did pick up us and dropped of us at OR Tambo.
The beds had electric heating blankets. Other than that, it was the worst place we stayed during a 3 weeks vacation.

Worst guest house I’ve ever stayed in in South Africa. There is no gate attendant and no doorbell, so several times we stood outside the gate for ten minutes or more waiting for someone to notice us so we could be let into the compound. The Wi-Fi was so slow, you should consider it non-existent.

It was more expensive than the chain hotels like Sun1, and we had to pay on check-in (probably because they know how many people won't want to pay after staying there!).

Other minor annoyances that added up to an all-around negative experience:

There was a kettle and two cups in the room but exactly ONE teabag and no coffee. There was also only one towel in the room when we checked in and we had to get another.

The TV made strange noises until we realized what it was, and unplugged it.

NO sound insulation — you can hear everything going on around you, which woke us up too early both mornings.

The bed was insanely warm and we only realized halfway through a sleepless night that the mattress warmer had been turned up all the way to maximum power and no one had warned us when we arrived.

Positives: A small pool, free taxi service to and from the airport. Jimmy, the driver, was lovely and on time. He even drove us to a restaurant for dinner once.

We sayed here twice. When we arrived in Johannesburg and when we left. It is conveniently located near the airport - just a few muinutes by car. When we arrived we were offered the pick uo service, but after waiting for half an hour at the airport, nobody was there to bring us to the hotel. We took a taxi.
We had a spacious room with a large bathroom. The bed is very comfortable and clean. The rooms are a bit basic, but allright. There is a nice garden and a small swimming pool. The staff is very friendly but a bit hard to get in contact with. We spent some time looking for the peron to help us. When we arrived the wifi was not working, second night it was working well.
The second time we had a room which was less spacious, but certainly okay and larger than an average hotelroom. Now the airportservice was perfect. There is a resstaurant, but we didn't eat here.
After all: nice rooms, a bit basic and a good location near the airport. Piick up service was a miss, but the staff is very kind. Good for a night after a long flight.
