Unique & Special: Stay for a few days in this special and unique experience place and do some exclusive top class Tours which are based right here at Airport Game Lodge. When you open your huge sliding glass door (or just the curtain), you don't look at the door on the other siide of the passage; instead you see free roaming animals - here you immerse in nature... There is a transfer service to several good restaurants in the area - drinking & driving is not a problem! Location: Although situated a mere 10 km north of Johannesburg International Airport, at the edge of the built up area, the secluded Airport Game Lodge combines the solitude of the African bush with the convenience of modern-day living. The lodge is ideally located for business and leisure travelers passing through Johannesburg. Owing to its location the lodge is the perfect start or end to any African tour. Airport Game Lodge is furthermore ideally situated for travelers with early departures or late arrivals. It is also suitable for day visitors - day rooms are available between connecting flights - as well as travelers wanting a home base while exploring the treasures of Southern Africa. Some international businesses use Airport Game Lodge to meet and do event training or exchange face to face – there is a conference facility. Standard, Superior & De Lux Rooms: Luxury accommodation is provided in well-appointed rooms in a landscaped garden, with animals literally in front of your door, overlooking the untouched bush and Rietvlei stream. Each room comes complete with a shower, separate toilet, hairdryer, and free WiFi (which allows virtually unlimited viewing on any personal device via the internet as if you were at home ). We also provide some interleading rooms available for families traveling together (Rooms 1 & 2, Rooms 9 & 10 are in the 21 sq. m Standard room category. Rooms 13 & 14, Rooms 20 & 21 are in the 27sq. m Superior room category.) There is complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the lodge. We are open 24/7. Extras: A luggage and car storage facility is available (with several regular guests who “store” their campers and cars safely here). Corporate Culture: Airport Game Lodge is also a Green Friendly Lodge (solar geysers, energy saver lighting, recycling, linens, and towels washed with biodegradable detergents). We operate according to the "Fair Trade" principles: You are doing good whilst enjoying yourself! FREE Airport Transfer 24/7: We offer a FREE airport transfer. To have a successful transfer we would require the below to be in place: 1. Your Smartphone Number 2. Have WhatsApp installed 3. Know how to "share your live location" Tip: To save money. If you use mobile data and are not local, in settings, switch all the mobile data off (except WhatsApp for cheap phoning).

Detailed Reviews
The hotel itself is fine, very spacious rooms available. The shower was seperate to the bathroom which is okay unless you are on a tour with someone you don't know well. I booked a day tour though the hotel which took us through Soweto and to the Apartheid Museum and that was well organised and a great way to experience the area. Free shuttle to the airport which is a nice bonus. My main issue with this hotel was when I first got to my room, the toilet was NOT clean. It was filled with someone elses diarrhoea!! I was busting at the time so I just had to flush the toilet and use it but I think that it was genuinely disgusting and a total oversight on behalf of the cleaners.

The owners, Otto and his wife Marge, are wonderful people, extremely friendly and honest. While driving us back to the airport, they asked about our trip. We were leaving for Upington and then to the Kalahari. They let us know that if we should end up back in Johannesburg to give them a call. At this point, the lockdown was just being discussed.
Within 2 days of arriving in the Kalahari, all domestic flights were canceled. We spent 2 weeks instead of 1 in the Kalahari - not a bad place to be stranded and then received a travel pass from the US Embassy. WE had a flight home - but we had to drive our rental car to Johannesburg. In so doing, we would need a place to stay. So, we called Otto at the Airport Game Lodge. Sure enough, we were welcome.
We drove all day and arrived just before sundown. Our room was ready - an upgrade from the last time, we had a fireplace. Nice. The owner made all the arrangements to take us to the US Embassy the next day along with some Dutch folks who were also going home. But we had one more problem. We had a rental car. Otto agreed to take possession of the rental car until the car company could get someone there to pick it up. What amazing service.
These people worked tirelessly to help stranded citizens not only survive the lockdown but make way to their respective embassies. The rooms were spotless. A hot breakfast was provided. The gounds maintained. All on a skeleton crew. They even made daily runs to the local market so people could purchase food.
I would recommend this lodge to anyone. Beautiful rooms, beautiful grounds with grass, water features and pleanty of animals to watch. Best of all, the owners are super honest. Both of our visits to their lodge were superb.

Excellent location to start your South Africa adventure from , ideally located near the Airport and comes with a free airport shuttle service , the Lodge is set in a well maintained large, and very secure area. bordered by their own small animal game reserve where they just love to stroll up to the fence and make friends with you. Outstanding staff team, and an equally excellent manager who always takes the time to chat to her guests .For sure, if we ever return to South Africa we will revisit the game lodge .

We experienced a sympathetic and informal reception, with prompt individual attention as needed. An efficient pickup service at the airport; it appeared possible to stop at a shopping centre on the way to the hotel. Next day we got a very reasonably priced transfer to the Apartheid Museum (40kms) by a person from the hotel who gave us expert explanation about the history of the museum. The hotel is situated on a quiet spot with rooms with a view of antilopes grazing and running in a large meadow.
Highly recommended.

I checked-in on the 3rd October and was not happy with where my room was located. It was on the far end and I passed rooms with male visitors only, I felt unsafe and requested to be moved closer to the reception but the receptionist refused. The place does not look as it appears on the internet. It was not as clean and bright as it appears there. There are smart television sets in the rooms but you have to log-in with your DSTV to be able to watch television. I didn't spend even a single night there, forfeited my R1800 booking fee that I already paid as their policy stated. I would rather be happy, safe and comfortable than risk my health and my life in an unsafe place because of money that was not to be refunded.

Had a great stay at airport game lodge. Anele was a fantastic driver who even let me get dinner by stopping at the engen late at night. Judy was fantastic at reception, giving me a new room as the original one was affected by a power outage in the area plus giving me rusks for my tea and warming my room beforehand with a heater.
Monica was amazing with her breakfast and beautiful smile. She is an inspiration, having worked her way up at APG to restaurant owner. Anele was reliable and a legend picking me up early again and on time in the morning.
Overall, I had a good experience made great by the wonderful staff!

Beautiful place, staff was helpful, shuttle run such a great idea, just felt a few things have let the place down. Breakfast was awful, bacon cut up in quarters, sausages swimming in liquid in the chafing dish container, beans could only have a teaspoon, not enough food for everyone, very disappointing at 8:15am. My sister turnt up at 7am for breakfast nothing was put out to be told "people don't normally turn up till 8am" even though breakfast is served 6am-9am food should be out at 6am & topped up till 9am! Rooms are very cold, was great full for extra heaters, but on your booking it asks what time your checking in roughly, would be a great idea an hour before to put the heating on during the colder month ready for guest's. Our room didn't lock from the inside, my sister had to lock us in and let us out in the morning as it was really late. Made reception aware came back and it still didn't lock! Housekeeping came and cleaned our room, didn't refresh the tea or coffees, Housekeeping made the bed and accidentally put the heater remote inside, so we couldn't find it. Overall place is a beautiful place just a few thing need to improve on.

We had to stay in the airport game lodge as part of a G adventures tour. We arrived at 10am and enquired about tours for the day in Johannesburg. The man on reception who was the main man in charge, said he could arrange a guided tour of the apartheid museum, guided tour of SOWETO and transfers. We asked about the price and he said he would ring the 'guide' and let us know. We waited 2 hours and he never approached us, despite passing many times. We then asked if there was an update, to which he responded that our driver was outside waiting for us and he forgot to tell us! We said we wanted to know the price first and he said the driver was already there but he could do a deal for 3500rand for 2 adults. We said that's too dear so immediately he dropped to 2500 and said we better go so we just agreed.
When we arrived at the museum, our 'guide' said that someone inside the museum would guide us and he wasn't going in. We asked him if could he at least introduce us to this new guide and he agreed, he walked into the museum and proceeded to ignore us. We were so confused and asked where our guide was and he said there wasn't one and it was very clear he hadn't been to the museum before so couldn't help us and he even got lost himself so we guided him through.
After the terrible time at the museum with him, he said he wasn't aware that he had to bring us to SOWETO. He then said the traffic was too bad to go. We said that wasn't what was agreed to, so he just drove us to a memorial and then to Nelson Mandela's house and that was it. No tour and asked us to take photos of him. We asked if could we get food and he got food too but said he had no cash so we paid for his meal (however, to be fair it was cheap)
Utterly disgusted with the service. So much so when we returned to Johannesburg at the end of our trip we stayed in a hostel in the city where we were not scammed and treated with respect.
It's a disgrace how they think that's acceptable to treat guests.

I stayed at the Airport Game Lodge as part of a G Adventures tour in Africa. It’s based close to the airport and is very clean. The staff are very friendly with good WiFi and some nice wildlife to look at on your arrival. Although the highlight of my stay was the Lodges welcome committee a 9 year old Collie named “WhatsApp”. The Lodge offers tours that are reasonably priced, they can arrange taxi’s and laundry. This was most welcome after 14 nights camping with G Adventures.
The staff on the desk and in the restaurant alone would get 5 stars alone for there great personalities.

Emperors palace is also a good place to go for a variety of restaurants to choose from.
Looking forward to your stay here with us in May.
Sorry just saw this question. Not sure how easy it is to get into town. We only transferred to/from the airport, which was very straight forward and free.
