I chose this lodge mainly because of convenience to the motorway and the airport, yet it is just far enough from either to be a very quiet and peaceful setting. It is in the suburbs but seems like the countryside. Waking up to bird sounds and even a few farm fowls was a pleasant extra.
The onsite restaurant provides a nice breakfast in a setting that mixes the right balance of charm and elegance with an African theme. As does the whole establishment, actually!
The room was clean and pleasant, and had a nice patio. Microwave, fridge and kettle in the room. It would have been pleasant to have a longer stay.

All in one package, shuttle, great food, neat and spacious rooms, friendly staff. With the whole feel of being in the bush but yet so close to the city. And to top it all they have a generator, so no power failure issue!

The lodge is handily situated for OR Tambo airport, being around 15 minutes easy drive away, although it is in a rather unwelcoming location, past the industrial areas associated with the airport and not somewhere you would expect a hotel. It has extensive, pleasant grounds and the rooms themselves are spacious, with large kitchenette areas and well equipped. However it is rather dowdy and there was an open box of rodent poison in my room, which may simply reflect the inevitable consequences of invaders from the surrounding open spaces, but could be potentially dangerous for families with children. Food is homely and nicely cooked by the friendly chef, although some other staff were on the vague and not very helpful side. Staff and/or their family seemed to use the dining room as a communal area, which also has the feel of a cafeteria. Overall, it is much more of a motel aimed at large groups and really does not fit the “boutique” description, but is a good value bet if you are looking for a decent stay near JNB and don’t want an airport hotel.

I stayed at this lovely lodge twice in October, both before and after a trip that also encompassed Mozambique and Madagascar. (I had also stayed here in 2015, and liked it so much that I returned, with friends.) It is just a short drive to JNB airport and the hotel includes transfers, plus dinner and breakfast, in its very reasonable price.

The rooms were quiet, convenient, spacious and well-appointed, the beds and pillows comfortable. The room included a hot water kettle, with instant coffee and tea available, and a refrigerator. Each room also had a private patio, complete with table and chairs. The room was non-smoking, which was greatly appreciated.

The public rooms at the lodge were very nicely and uniquely decorated.
The grounds at the lodge are beautiful, and I took some pictures off their unique landscaping features, as well as the unusual ducks by the waterfall.

The staff people are gems! Moffat met us at the JNB airiport twice, and he even remembered me from last year. LIsane, at reception, arranged late dinners to be brought to my rooms on each arrival, as the flights arrived too late for dinner in the dining room. The dinners had a great variety and so much food that I had part of the second dinner for lunch the next day.

Breakfast on the first stay was a huge amount of food packed for us to take along, as we had a very early flight. Breakfast on the second stay included eggs, yogurt, bacon and more, brought to the table, where I enjoyed conversation with the owner, staff and their children.

Unlike some places in the Johannesburg area, the water in the rooms at the lodge comes from a deep well and is safe for tourists. And has an excellent taste.

I greatly appreciated the hospitality of everyone at the lodge, and when I told Lisane that my flight out after the second stay was in the evening, she let me stay in the room for free until I was ready to head to the airport.

The wifi was free and worked very well. Lisane gave me wifi codes at check in.

Be sure to reserve rooms at the lodge as soon as you know your travel dates, as it often fills up with return convention business. As I mentioned before, the price is very reasonable, with included breakfast, dinner and airport transfers.

We stayed at this Lodge twice, on the way in and then on the way out of OR Tambo Airport. Well situated close to the airport but in a quiet suburban location that seemed more like the countryside. Staff was very helpful - they even served our dinner in our room when our flight came in too late to eat in the dining area. And on our second stay, they packed us a breakfast 'to go' for a birding trip in the countryside, with an early departure.

The rooms were clean and very comfortable. The food was kind of home-style, which we liked. They found us a bottle of excellent SA white wine for dinner.

We had a nice walk on the grounds. The wifi was fast and easily accessible. All in all it was the perfect location for a jet lag recovery going in to Africa, and a nice rest before the long journey home.

First of all, the price was phenomenal, less than $100 USD including the airport transfer to the lodge, dinner, room and breakfast. The transfer from the airport was seamless, and the young man meeting me even helped me find another ATM at the arrivals area.

The room was spacious and included a patio on lovely grounds that had lots of chickens.

The dinner featured a wonderful fried fish and other great food. The breakfast was tasty as well. The only improvement I could suggest would be to have real coffee vs instant.

Staff was very congenial and helpful, and the wifi worked well. Don't miss the beautiful rag doll cat who sometimes sits in a chair at the reception.

We had a very nice stay here for the night before we flew out of Johannesburg airport. Although we arrive late (9pm) they were very welcoming and we had a very peaceful night. The electric blankets were useful as it was chilly at night. The thatched roofs on the rooms were very quaint and the chickens scurrying around were amusing. Breakfast was great and the chef was very friendly. Although we didn't make use of the other facilities, the bar and lounge areas looked very comfortable. We had 2 double rooms that they made up into triples with advanced notice.

Second time I stayed at Ikwekwezi and it is surely one of the best guest houses. Friendly staff, clean rooms. Excellent breakfast with very professional waiters. The surrounding also makes one feel very relaxed.

We have 24 hour CCTV on the property, we are connected to a security company and nobody can enter without the Lodge knowing of them. It is safe to book with us and over the past 14 years we did not have any security problem. Every room is fitted with a phone that should there be any problem whether security or medical you would press a button and there will be somebody that can assist you. Please feel free to contact us should you require any other information. Regards Ikwekwezi Management
