This property is location near the Johannesburg airport (JNB), but not so near that the airplanes are a nuisance. It is an ideal place to stay and rest after a long flight and before beginning whatever is on your South African agenda.

The staff and owners are a family and they treat their guests like family, too. Feel free to ask them about booking a sightseeing tour or private driver to visit downtown and the city of Johannesburg, Soweto, and/or Pretoria.

Accommodations come with a continental breakfast, plus an English breakfast option, WiFi and transfers to and from the airport. Rooms are a good size and all have outdoor spaces to sit and relax. There are also shared outdoor spaces, including a garden and a small pool to dunk on a hot summer day.

They also serve a daily special and some select offerings for dinner, which guests can eat in the dining room or in the bar. And there is a convenience store just outside the property if a guest needs a snack, a drink, or a OTC medication.

I was a returning guest to to Safari Club twice in November 2021, before and after a trip to Madikwe.

It’s convenient for Johannesburg airport (pickups are available) and the owners, Al and Josie, go out of their way to make you feel comfortable.

I arrived late on my first stay and a light supper tray was arranged on arrival, and on my second stay, Al arranged a late afternoon PCR at the airport and printed the results for me.

And as I had an evening flight the next day, Al suggested and arranged a trip to Rietvlei Nature Reserve. Excellent for bird-watching, from hides and your vehicle, plus a simple lunch was served in the grounds of an historic house.

The rooms at the Safari Club (most surrounding the gardens) are simply furnished and comfortable, there’s also an excellent lounge with plenty of reading material, a bar and brai area, plus the well-kept grounds are quiet, have plenty of bird life and a small pool.

Current COVID protocols are properly observed and the Safari Club remains my choice when I’m staying in Johannesburg.

The Safari Club Hotel is located in an oasis of peace and quiet about a ten minute drive from the Q. R. Tambo Airport in Johannesburg. It is a small property in an industrial complex adjacent to the airport. In the center of the property is a small swimming pool which is surrounded by nicely landscaped grounds. The lodgings are to one side of the pool and the reception/bar buildings on the other side. The restaurant is a small room adjacent to the reception desk. The hotel offers a free wifi connection.

We had a room with two twins next to each other to form a double bed. The room is tastefully decorated. In conversations with the owner, he mentioned that some of the furniture in the room has been made by local craftspeople. The room is of ample size with, desk, a couple of chairs, a nice Sony TV, and luggage rack. The bathroom has a lovely shower with a rain cloud showerhead.

The owner, the receptionist, the restaurant waitperson were all easy to chat with. The owner, Alstair, immigrated from Scotland when he was young. He and his wife have owned the hotel since 2014. The lodging fee includes breakfast which in addition to standard stuff, includes eggs and bacon cooked freshly for the lodger. Dinner is an extra cost. Our dinner consisted of a green salad, followed by the main course of chicken pot pie, mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables and for dessert a chocolate mousse. The portions were ample and the food very tasty. Alstain indicated that tourism was starting to pick up, but somewhat oscillatory. There were two other tables of lodgers when we had our dinner.

The hotel supplies a pickup service to and from the airport. As noted above, the airport is roughly a ten minute drive from the hotel. In chatting with the owner and his wife, we were able to share life experiences with them. If you need a short stay while visiting Johannesburg, I can highly recommend staying at the Safari Club Hotel.

Our party of 6 people stayed at Safari Club SA during December. Innocent and Resistance met us at the airport and made the transfer of us and our mountain of luggage to the property a breeze.
We were checked into our rooms, looking out over the lovely tree filled gardens. The rooms were perfect with plenty of room for luggage and well furnished with items made by the local community. The bathrooms was also a good size and coffee/tea making facilities were available in each room.
I loved the gardens where there were many different birds to watch.
The staff were all lovely and I wish I could remember all the names to mention.
Al and Josie were fantastic hosts and nothing that we asked for was too much trouble.
We enjoyed a choice of hot and cold items at breakfast and traditional South African food was also available for evening meals.
Al also arranged both a trip to see Pretoria and Johannesburg as well as a game drive at Pilanesburg, which was amazing.
Although load shedding is a fact of life in SA, they have a generator so it is hardly noticeable.
Thank you for the lovely stay. We will most likely be back again in the future

I stayed in Safari Club enroute to Zimbabwe for a night in November. This was my second stay there (last time 2013). The Lodge was taken over by Al and Josi about 4 years ago and I loved the fresh look and what they have done to it. I was picked up with a private car directly from the airport (as per Covid protocol) and taken to the lodge, which only took 7min. My room was cozy and very big. The hospitality was superb, the beer cool, dinner tasty, the shower hot and bed comfortable. The rates are superb and very good price value, compared to some of the other big lodges near the airport. I would choose the lodge any time again and highly recommend them.

We arrived early Sunday morning and was greeted by Alistair, you really couldn't of asked to be met by a nicer person. Very welcoming made us instantly fill at home.
Our room had 4 beds but wow they were comfortable with bathroom, telly, safe and kettle.
We were offered drinks on arrival and even breakfast which was a blessing (plane food isn't great).
This is where our great adventure begins and ended.
Alistair made my youngest son something different for dinner so he could eat and ordered us pizza in. All staff that work here were equally as amazing very kind friendly making sure everything was perfect.

Alistair arranged for us to see the local craft markets making sure we arrived and returned safely again another great experience of life outside of the safari.

Breakfast is open for quite a while ensuring even those that needed a lie in where catered for. Eggs bacon and the most incredibly tasty baked beans iv ever eaten.
There's a small bar with light music and games for those that may need entertainment but again all staff were soo friendly it really wasn't required. They are interested in hearing your stories or advising on places to visit.

Our return visit has been as equally amazing making sure we were catered for and looked after. Amazing dinner very tasty.
Our check out was a late one but were very welcomed to stay and make use of all facilities which the children loved as they were finally able to use the swimming pool.

This place is not too far from Johannesburg airport and all gated and protected from the main roads. The staff really go out of their way to.make sure your stay is the best it can be.
I would honestly recommend staying here and I definitely would come back again and again.

Small swimming pool, bar with games, a lounge seating area with books what more could you ask for.

Thank you to everyone for making our adventure the very best it could be.

We stayed here on two occasions in August, 2023. We were a group of 11 on the first stay and 2 less on the second. It’s more like staying with a friend in their house than staying in a regular hotel, such is the wonderful friendly service provided by Alistair and his team. The hotel is very close to JNB yet the rooms are set around a small, manicured green space. The rooms are large with twin beds pushed together, made up as twins. They are blissfully comfortable as are the pillows. The rooms are comfortable without being luxurious. Shampoo/Tissues are not supplied but there are Tea/Coffee making facilities in the rooms and the showers are good pressure and with no shortage of hot water. The A/C units in the rooms are old and can struggle to heat the room if it’s a very cold day as it was on our first stay. We had a rest day here and used one of the many tours on offer to pass the time. Lunch is not served but reception ordered us a Pizza on our first stay and it arrived promptly. The Breakfasts and Dinners are truly excellent, home cooked food and a reason alone to stay here. All in all a fabulous break away from one of the big chain hotels.

Thank you for firstly coming to spend time with us and for taking the time to comment so well on your stay. One additional comment shampoo is supplies and is in the holder in the shower. We use a eco friendly soap and shower combination in the holders. We don't supply hand tissues however we do supply toilet paper. Our A/c units are old and often it is difficult to see if they are on heating however we had them all serviced before winter and I will put instructions in the rooms to assist guests making sure they are on heating Thank you again for your feedback Regards Al & Jose

Our group of 5 travelers stayed 1 night at safari club hotel with a dinner time arrival and a mid-morning departure scheduled the next day. The safari club airport shuttle to and from the hotel went smoothly. A friendly greeting and clean comfortable rooms awaited us. The grounds were lush and so pleasant to enjoy after a long international flight. They kindly offered us dinner (extra cost) which was delicious and allowed us to relax before leaving the next morning. Though near the airport, it was amazingly quiet and felt totally safe. The morning breakfast was delicious and abundant. Shout out to Linda who waited up to ensure late night safe arrival for members of our group who had gone out to a wine bar until 11pm. Linda also cheerfully helped us to print boarding passes for our morning flight. This area of Joberg was experiencing periodic electric service shut off;however safari club had a generator to ensure continuation of basic electric service. Overall great service and much appreciated after a long day of traveling.

My children and I stayed at this resort during a National Geographic/G Adventures tour and it was absolutely wonderful. It was a little oasis right next to the airport but you would never have guessed it. There was very little air traffic noise and the gardens and rooms were beautiful and peaceful. The owners/and staff really had a welcoming attitude and the family style dining really made it feel like you were visiting someone at their home. We loved it!

Our family of 4 stayed here for 2 nights after arriving to South Africa and we couldn't have chosen a better hotel. The room was large so there was plenty of room for us. It had everything we could have needed. The owner was very helpful and the meals (dinner and breakfast) were phenomenal. He heard my son talking about wanting pancakes and then had the kitchen staff make both my kids a pancake the next morning at breakfast. We also appreciated not having to go into Johannesburg to find meals at night and the bar had plenty of options to choose from.

The owner also was familiar with the safari company we were using and knew the guides. On our last night there, our guide dropped off a couple who had just done the safari we were getting ready to do. Also, the couple that we would be on safari with starting the next day was also staying at Safari Club. So the owner arranged for all 8 of us to eat together, which was such a treat! The couple who had finished their safari already left the next day but we had already gotten the know the couple we'd be doing our safari with by the time we left the next morning.

This hotel also has a beautiful outdoor space and is decorated very nicely on the interior as well. That alone would have made us consider coming back, but it was Alistair's personal touches that will make us not look anywhere else the next time we come to Johannesburg.
