I spent 3 days with 25 colleagues. I think it was formerly a retirement home in the heyday when Berea was a sought after place to retire.

Great use of space and courtyard to soak up the sun. Noisy neighbours and no air con, but good food. I'll come again.

Excellent venue for NPO training and conferences, especially for young people.

I was pleasantly surprised by my stay at Stay City. I was there for five nights for a writing workshop for a group of sixteen or so. Our group was small compared to most of those staying - a succession of sports teams - which seem to be the main clientele while we were there. We were very well treated and all the staff were very friendly. Food was a bit 'institutional' (very similar for several days) but very nice. My room was one of the better ensuite rooms and was fine - huge comfortable bed, clean bathroom and fairly quiet. Tea and coffee facilities but no room safe. With so many sports team and young people early morning and evenings weren't quiet with a lot of singing but that's the sort of place this is. It's not in a good area but seemed quite secure although you wouldn't want to go for a walk outside in the evening. Inside the walls there's quite a nice courtyard and a nice atmosphere.
If you are looking somewhere for a relatively cheap place for a workshop, course or similar for a group, it's fine - it doesn't claim to be a luxury venue. Three stars seems a bit mean but four might send the wrong message. I wouldn't mind staying there again for a similar purpose but wouldn't choose it for a holiday stay. Have to stress the staff and management couldn't have been more accommodating and will try to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

First - VERY BAD AREA! Again, EXTREMELY BAD AREA! It is primarily a conference venue, so the rooms are horrible: old, moldy, windows are old and not closing, bathrooms non-existent, and those that do are dated and old. Staff is extremely nice and friendly, but it is not their fault they work for that horrible place.

Coming to Joburg, I was nervous that it was in the middle of the city! But from the moment we entered the gates, it was like entering another world! The rooms were neat and clean and all other areas of the hotel were equally clean. The main dining area is really beautiful with lots of natural light coming in and it is really big. For me, the highlight of my stay was the service from their staff. From the time we arrived, the staff were friendly, helpful and very organised. I had a few personal requirements and nothing was too much trouble for them. There were a few last minute changes to our conference times and the setting style of our conference room and they just took it all in their stride - the duty manager was on top of things at all times. We were attending a conference here and slept over for two nights. I was actually expecting the worst and was most surprised to find that it turned out to be a fantastic event.
