In August 2008 after an extensive review of all properties on Trip Advisor I made a booking at the Parkwood. After forwarding credit card details - they want a 1 night prepayment at the time of booking, which seems to be a South African thing, the booking was duly confirmed by return email in September. An email in January to confirm flight arrival details so we could use their "meet and greet" service resulted in a shock email - we appear to have lost your booking - oops - so sorry we are now full. The property may well be charming, we will never find out. A word of caution - double or even triple check with this property before proceeding as a confirmation may not be a confirmation.

Saw a nice review of The Parkwood on another popular travel website. I checked out The Parkwood's website and was very impressed by what I saw. Parkwood is not a hotel, but rather a "guest house". Since I am really not a big fan of chain hotels, I decided to give Parkwood a try. Reservation was setup by emails with Sarah. I told her that I needed a one night stay and that I was probably going to check in after 9:30pm due to a late flight from Amsterdam. I also requested transportation from Oliver Tambo Airport in Joburg to The Parkwood. Email communications were smooth and very cordial. Upon arrival in Joburg, long lines at Passport Control and Baggage Claim meant that I didn't leave the airport until 10:30pm. Tumi, the driver sent by Sarah to pick me up, was waiting

This property for only the discerning traveler who gets a real treat in finding boutique hotels that cater to each individual guest in a unique and deliberate sort of way. I stumbled upon the Parkwood by sheer accident, and now I couldn't happier that I did since it is now the only place I will stay in Johannesburg! Dean, Sarah, and their staff take care of you hand and foot! Plus when you arrive, there's no such thing as fretting over "check-in." You're just escorted to your room and on your happy merry way from there. Plus breakfast (which is included) in the morning is divine! I can't recommend this place enough!
