After our Safari in Northern SA we chose this place for our last night in Johannesburg, since it got a review of 9.6 on booking.com. Usually quite reliable, but it shows -once more- that ‘internet-grades’ are quite subjective. Ofcourse, mine is just an opinion as well, but nevertheless one of someone quite well-traveled in my profession working for an airline. We tried calling ahead, because we wanted to inquire about a late checkout, but the recording said, that there was no-one to answer the phone on weekends. We decided to trust the grade and book anyway.. Upon arrival, there was only the security-guard to meet us. We inquired about the possibilty for a late checkout, but that was not possible. We are truly sorry you did not experience as good a stay as we would have wished. Our ethos is pretty much anti big hotel feel & we like to think that we explain this on our website. Our staff have been with us from the day we opened 14 years ago and our guards are trained to check our guests in, not just be guards. We run at maximum capacity in our peak periods & guests know to book the extra night should they require a late check out as it is not feasible any other way, being avid travelers we equally respect how desirable this is and offer help whenever we can. We also fully understand that everyone has a comfort preference for bed firmness and we have gone for the popular choice over the years. We apologize whole heartedly regardless for your discomforts .

We had booked (and prepaid) rooms at another local hotel (the Winston) only to find they had overbooked. We were able to find two rooms at the Parkwood and are extremely happy with how everything worked out. Not only were the rooms at The Parkwood less expensive than those we originally booked, the property turned out to be a real gem. The property is quaint, quiet, and relaxing. Once inside the property it is hard to believe you are I. The heart of a major city. The sitting areas in the property are perfect to relax after a long day. Great rooms, all with Wifi. Secure parking. Close proximity to Rosebank Gautrain Station. Serviced by Uber and Uber Foods. Dinner available Monday to Thursday. Breakfasts is very good - best bacon by far compared to other enterprises.

You feel immediately at ease in this relaxed little oasis in the middle of J burg. Comfortable rooms, good breakfast and nice service (with the wonderful smile of the servant Patricia). Very recommendable.
