What a wonderful hotel we are so pleased that we stayed here just disappointed that it was only for the 2 nights.
We stayed in Johannesburg to break up the journey from the UK and before we went on safari in Zambia and in addition we hadn't visited Johannesburg previously. The Parkwood is in a safe neighbour (you are free to wander locally during the day but best to book an Uber in the evenings) but also has wonderful security.
The hotel is really well decorated, well maintained and has some lovely communal sitting areas around a small pool and after a long journey we spent several hours just chilling out. From the moment we arrived all the team were so helpful - we were very lucky that we were able to check in early (not something we expected - would have been just happy to drop our bags off) and were looked after from that moment until we left. It was great to meet and chat with Sarah who was happy to provide recommendations on restaurants / activities.
The rooms are sizeable each with a small private outdoor courtyard and lovely bathroom. Breakfasts were a mix of cold buffett and you could order a selection of hot breakfast dishes along toast - all freshly made.
The Parkwood is a fabulous hotel - you won't be disappointed .... we weren't.

We stayed at the Parkwood for one night before taking off on Rovos Rails and both felt that one night was a disservice to this lovely, welcoming guest house. The rooms were impeccable - with radiant heating in the floor, outstanding water pressure, soft linens and a glass of sherry waiting on arrival.
JP helped us to make dinner reservations at Proud Mary (a must go) and assisted us with drivers to and from the airport. The breakfast was delicious. I even ordered from Uber Eats and lounged in a garden with my lunch. I hope I can return again and stay a few nights to fully soak in the relaxation and vibes.

Our stay at the charming The Parkwood in Johannesburg was nothing short of delightful. The interior decor was beautifully curated, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere throughout the lodge. The breakfast served was absolutely delicious, with a variety of options to choose from to suit every palate. The rooms were extremely comfortable and well-appointed, providing a tranquil retreat. And of course we need to mention Jean-Paul who was the most helpful and most charming host. Thanks for making us feel at home straight away.

The couple who run the guest lodge are very welcoming and give good advices. The staff are very professional. Good breakfast with hot dishes cooked individually for each guest. Spacious, comfortable rooms. Charming furniture and decor. Lodge with lots of charm. Secure lodge with electronic gate (each guest receives a key). The only downside was the weather (around 10-15°C at the end of July, despite a beautiful blue sky), but of course the lodge had nothing to do with that... Room heating was correct.

Anyone visiting JHB needs to stay at The Parkwood. It makes your visit on business or pleasure so comfortable. Sarah and Dean are the most divine hosts, so kind, helpful and organized. Nothing has been overlooked. Attention to detail is beautiful. It’s warm and cosy with fires burning as you are welcomed in the door. The rooms are warm and have everything you need while staying away from home. Super clean and tidy. They have omelette queens in the kitchen and I could not help myself by having one every day!! Super central, close walking distances to Rosebank shops and restaurants. Plus they suggested the nicest Taxi driver called Norman who I felt 100% safe with, even leaving my bags and computers with while nipping into the shops. Well done Schonfeldt’s - I look forward to staying with you again

Already for 10 years our absolute favourite 'home away from home' in Johannesburg. Lovely people, beautifully designed rooms and gardens, an oasis of tranquility, and delicious food. The recently introduced 'salad garden' provides the kitchen with fresh herbs and lettuce and is a great addition too. The owners and their entire team are fantastic hosts, no effort is too much for them. Thank you all for making us feel so welcome, every time!

We stayed for two nights prior to our flight back. Sarah and her husband are very good hosts and helpful in all you need. We needed Covid tests printed out and also needed help with calling one of the testing labs and they let us use their personal phones. The room was gorgeous and the whole property is so elegant. Breakfast was nice. Only negative was our arrival when the gate attendant seemed very suspicious about letting us enter the property and asked whether “we were sure?” that we arrived at the right place. It left a bitter taste. Security I guess is a huge deal in Johannesburg, but thus could have been handled differently.

Can I really just give it only 5 Stars? Dean and Sarah have created the most welcoming, comfortable and luxurious guest house. The outdoor spaces have comfortable couches and are a perfect way to relax. We ordered dinner one night and breakfast to order each day. The chefs make a delicious meal. I thoroughly enjoyed the nice big bathtub with jets after a day of touring. Everything was clean and nicely decorated. They have a 24/7 guard and the neighborhood is quiet. We felt completely safe. Easy walk to Rosemark area for shops and restaurants. The icing on top was how Sarah and Dean accomodated us with our late evening flight home and let us have a place to relax and hang out before we left.

I was initially scheduled for only one night at the Parkwood because of a Johannesburg layover, but, luckily, flight arrangements meant that I stayed two nights. The property is beautiful and the staff are very attentive without being intrusive. Sarah, who owns the establishment with her husband, Dean, is a lovely host in every way. . . very helpful, and I really enjoyed our conversations. Both are wonderful, welcoming people. I had no desire to have meals anywhere else, as the options at the Parkwood are excellent. I highly recommend this place and hope to go back some time!

Hi there,
We can certainly arrange a pick-up from the airport and the driver will await you inside the airport arrivals terminal. This cost approximately R480.00 to R 550.00...we would get a quote at the time. You can also download Uber..very good & the rate would be about R 300.00. It is about a 40 minute ride from ORT airport.
When we were there last September the restaurant was open for all meals. There is a limited selection about 3 mains for example but it was all very nice and friendly.
There are more places to choose from in the Johannesburg area.
