I stayed in Room 37 The celing fan was too noisy. It need to be on as it was fairly hot the night I stayed there. The water pressure was low. There were dogs, either on the property itself or on a neighbouring property, that keep on barking and howling, not all the time though! Most importantly, the towels were MUSTY.
The overall hotel and premises are clean and tidy. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The gardens are not well maintained and I was not aware that was a pet-friendly hotel. When I woke up this morning there were 4 - 5 dogs running around on the premises unattended. The general maintenance needs some attention. The hotel is well situated close to the Lanseria Airport, Randpark and the Silverstar casino for entertainment.
This is such a lovely place with a beautiful garden. The staff was friendly, we enjoyed our stay. The breakfast was not so good, so much that I only ate the fresh fruits. Also wish they could put irons in the rooms. Was such an inconvenience not to iron out clothes
Place seemed to have a charming atmosphere. We were there for the Sunday for the Spanish Chamber of Commerce Payella competition and general festival. It was 12h30. I remember initially remarking that we should visit again. On ordering drinks the waiters were confused as to what draught they served and it turned out that my choice was sold out - Imagine hosting an event and not planning for adequate supplies! Waiters generally ignored us. At one point, after some 15 minutes of trying to get any waiter's attention, one of the event organisers eventually went up to a set of three waiters - standing around chatting - pointed to our table and requested someone attend to us. Another 20 minutes passed before someone eventually arrived. We decided to no longer order lunch and I drove out 15 minutes for take-aways while the rest of my party waited at the venue. Of course - as soon as I left the general area, a waiter rushed over to our table worried that we were absconding without paying (which we clrearly were not) I got the take-aways, which I enjoyed at this venue and paid the bill for the initial drinks without a tip. The anticipated relaxing Sunday was not to be thanks to poor service. Despite our initial impressions, we will be sure to never give this venue our custom. Good luck to them though…
Our experience at Valverde was doomed before we even arrived. Valverde Eco Hotel (as it's called outside of TripAdvisor) was recommended as accommodation for a wedding that was happening less than a km away. It was the more cost-effective of the two recommended hotels, though not by much at R990 a night. I booked our accommodation a month before the wedding date. I mentioned in my booking that we'd need to be checked in early (10:30am) since the wedding itself started at 11:30. I didn't hear anything back, so assumed this wouldn't be a problem. The day before the wedding, I received a phonecall informing me that check-ins were at 2pm, and that they wouldn't be able to check us in before 12 at the very earliest. This immediately put me on edge. After some back and forth, and enquiring as to why this was suddenly a problem when I'd requested early check-in a month prior, I was assured that they would find a way to check us in or at least store our belongings at 10:30. We arrived on the morning of the wedding, and our room was ready for us. What a relief! All that stress for nothing. We made our way to the room and that stress returned. The room was tiny. It advertises on their website that it has a sitting area, but what it means is that it has a corner where the tray of tea and coffee is stored. No one could comfortably sit there. But this was not even our biggest concern. The room had dry wall that didn't reach the thatched ceiling. This meant that we couldn't talk above a whisper without being heard by the neighbouring room or anyone standing in the hallway. Certainly not what you want in a room that you've paid almost R1000 for. We got ready and left for the wedding, stopping for coffee and muffins at the entrance stall, which were lovely. On our return at 6:30pm, we were hoping to head to the restaurant for a light meal. I tried to call reception to find out if the restaurant was open (as Google said it should be), but got no answer. I went down and tried to find a security guard, there wasn't one around - though an armed response person informed me he'd gone to deal with a problem at the other side of the hotel. I found the restaurant after some searching, and it was closed. Around 7pm I found someone to ask about this, and they said that because there had been no bookings, they'd closed for the night. At no point had I been asked if I wanted a booking, or advised that one needed to be made. I asked if there were any restaurants nearby, and was told that there was only a service station. Thank goodess for trusty Google helping me to find a restaurant for dinner 12kms away. After dinner, we returned and turned in for an early night. We needed to leave at 5am the next morning to drive back to the Eastern Cape. We turned off the lights, and found that the half dry wall meant that the hallway light shone through at all hours. Hardly ideal. The foam mattress wasn't the most comfortable, but we managed to finally fall asleep. On waking at 4:30am, we wanted to shower and leave. The shower had fantastic water-pressure, which was the only positive we'd found so far. But lo and behold, zero hot water. Not a drop. No milk sachets for the Nescafe either, so only one of us could have coffee (I can't handle black or cremora, which was supplied). Having likely woken the neighbouring rooms thanks to creaky floorboards, we made our escape. The gate was wide open with the security guard making the rounds. I found him at reception to hand in our keys, and we left swearing never to return. Having spent the night before our stay at a hotel a few kms down the road (Valverde had been fully booked on Saturday night, thank goodness), I can honestly say that there are better hotels in the vicinity that cost less and provide a lot more value and comfort. I honestly wish that I'd simply booked a second night at the other hotel rather than wasting my time, energy and stress on staying here. In fact, I very nearly spent an extra R800 booking a room at the other hotel for the night rather than staying.…
We had a terrible experience at Velverde Eco Hotel. First of all, the whole place needs a lot of maintenance. Our room's door hinges were broken. We were given a dirty towel and our bath was unusable as absolutely NO hot water came from the taps. The shower was extremely dark and either piping hot or ice cold!!! Plumbing problems were evident. The next morning we were given ice cold breakfast and we had to ask a few times for the staff to refill the food as there was not close to enough for our table. To top it all off, the tamato sauce was rotten! Definitely not worth your hard earned money. I will not recommend this place to anyone.
Family outing gone wrong. Very limited (1 page) menu. Service not good. Food comes at irregular intervals so don't expect to eat together. Paella takes more than 50min to prepare but no one tells you this. We all got our food at different times. Might as well have been at different tables. Very very disappointed! Will not be returning here and won't recommend.
Not at all like the pictures. We stayed in room 25, which had a wafting sewage smell coming in from the bathroom that made it extremely unpleasant. Apart from the constant traffic noise, what I’m presuming to be the “roboguard” alarm kept going off at night. This would be then followed by security having a big chat at top volume, further inhibiting sleep. We were two adults and a child, but only two towels were provided. We had to ask repeatedly before an additional towels sent. The free breakfast is also not worth mentioning, unless you like burnt omelettes dripping with oil.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone as our stay was not a pleasant one. We had booked for a weekend stay with the girls. We arrived and checked it went to our rooms. The water was not hot, water was not flowing well in the bath tub. We asked for extra blankets and electric blanket but we where told house keeping was closed. That was really shocking because clearly they could make a plan as they have the keeps to get the extra blankets, they just didn't want to give us period. I have worked in the hotel industry for 8 years and i know reception can easily assist with that even when housekeeping is not available. The rooms need new painting, the old rusty stuff needs to be dusted before clients check in. They where so may flies in the restaurant when we had breakfast which was a big turn off for us. We did not receive our welcome drinks and wine. JP needs to up his game because this was really the worst girls trip of our life considering that we where celebrating our birthdays. NOT HAPPY AT ALL SHAME…
Beautiful and very neat. Rooms are clean and awesome. The spa is an absolute must, thank you for a wonderful experience. Highly recommend. The wedding venues are very beautiful. The gardens are well maintained. Swimming pool is lovely
