Breakfast and coffee, excellent service, excellent food and really great venue for a relaxing breakfast . Easy to find, family type atmosphere and feels like a bed and breakfast venue but more. Service was very friendly and ideal location for business travellers. Prices really competitive, unfortunately we did not stay over and therefore we have not reviewed the accommodation.

I have just returned from a weekender to this wonderful place. My family and I were immediately greeted with warm smiles and the staff geniunely seemed happy to have us there.

The staff as well as the rooms exceeded my expectations. The room was spacious enoguth for 2 adults and 2 small kids, decor was not overly done or tacky. Furnishings were new and small attentions to detail were well appreciated.

The room came with aircon, small dstv bouquet, mini bar fridge, microwave and each room had its own little balcony in case you needed some fresh air. It was serviced daily by friendly staff who were very accomodating and non intrusive( they timed the cleaning perfectly as oppossed to just letting themselves in)

The service rate included breakfast which was perfect each day we stayed there. The variety laid out was also based on the guests staying there for the night, it was a small menu of options but each dish was made with pride and love and the coffee was as fresh as can be. They also had a pool on premises which would have been great if the weather held out. The property felt safe and 24h guards helped sustain that feeling.

It wasnt too loud or too close to the motorways and we did have a partial view of the road so i assumed it would have been but was pleasantly surprised.

This place ticked all the boxes , no false advertising and the rooms actually look as good as the pics. I will defintely be staying there again with the family and hopefully soon.

We got robbed at gun point inside the premises, two thugs came and took all our valuables.. The owner was very rude and insisted that it is our people who robbed us, the police came in and he was forced to refund us and we ended up driving late at night because it was not safe at all to stay there.. Thank God that non of us was hurt but please think twice before you can visit Amakoekoe guest because it is not safe at all!!

Response from Amakoekoe, Manager at Amakoekoe Guest House
Responded 02 Oct 2019
Dear Isaac We are truly sorry that you and your party had this terrible experience at Amakoekoe Guest Lodge and are very relieved that no one was injured. In no way do we want to make light of your experience but we do not believe that the title of ‘most dangerous place to visit ever’ is fair, and if we could, we would like to clear up a few things. Firstly, the confusion about who was responsible. On our security camera, we saw someone running into the kitchen. Our duty managers brought the lady back to the office and when your group came in, there was a lot of shouting and gesticulating. We incorrectly assumed that this woman was responsible for the theft as it had appeared she was running away. Only after that did we understand that two men had come in and robbed you of your cell phones and cash. Andre, the owner, did approach the lady afterwards and apologized for the misunderstanding which she kindly accepted. After the statements were taken by the police, Andre went to you and offered you a refund. No one forced us to do this but we felt it was the right thing to do, along with bringing in an additional security guard. You stated to Andre that it was fine, you would accept the refund and that you would visit Amakoekoe again. So we are sorry to see your review and that you feel differently now. At Amakoekoe, we want our guests to be comfortable and relaxed but unfortunately crime does occur in this city and we are doing our best to make our venue safe for both visitors and staff. We are in the process of upgrading our property which will hopefully assist in deterring criminals. With regards The Amakoekoe Team.

Location was convenient. The lodge was great, room small but well kept.
Gardens and facility looks like it needs some attention. Would stay here again if the need arises. It is cemtral to the west rand and traveling around that area makes it a great location.

I have spent 2 sleepless nights at Amakoekoe.
When I asked to move to one of the quieter rooms at the back of the premises, I was told by the owner, that I am in Jhb, so I must expect noise. I am frequent traveller, and have never had this kind of experience before in Jhb. So I am rather disappointed at his response 😢 The room is otherwise quite comfortable and the breakfast is very nice.

Whats happening with Amakoekoe? The only good aspect about it, and what keeps me going back to them - is the excellent staff.

The owners need to look at improving lumpy bed and smelly rooms. The telephone was not working due to lightning strikes, the water features were full of smelly, stagnant water. This place needs an upgrade so the infrastructure can meet he excellence of the staff.
