Please note that I rarely leave a negative review, but this one MUST be addressed and shared to warn other travelers. When we arrived at The Winston the ground staff informed us that it was closed and told our driver that they would take us to their sister hotel. Hoping it would have equal charm they took us to a Hyatt House. Needless to say, this was not acceptable. Additionally, we were not emailed at any time of this closure nor did any sites we reviewed note that the hotel was closed even on the day we arrived. Fortunately we had an amazing driver, Millicent, hired through Blacklane who stayed with us and then ensured we found a safe and amazingly located hotel: voco Johannesburg Rosebank. voco is fabulous and I'd recommend it to anyone travelling to JoBurg, thanks Vladimir and all the staff for making our short stay phenomenal!…
We only stayed for one night at the Winston, but we really enjoyed our visit. Our room was beautifully decorated, as was the entire property, and the staff was helpful and friendly. We had dinner in the restaurant and everything was quite good, though they were sold out of several options (both food and wines). We tried the boerewors and lamb, and both were fantastic, but I especially recommend the boerewors! The bed was large and comfortable, and we slept well. They also were willing to lock up our luggage after we checked out so we could explore and sight see, and we enjoyed a nice glass of wine in the peaceful, lovely courtyard before heading to the airport. A highlight of our stay was talking to our dinner server. I cannot recall his name, but he was from Ghana and so friendly and wonderful to talk to. The only negative notes: First, the restaurant was empty the entire time we ate there, so I would suggest adding some soft music to make the atmosphere a bit more comfortable. Second, we paid for car transfer to and from the hotel, and it was significantly more expensive than Uber (and from what I saw in other reviews here, regular taxis). The car was a normal marked taxi, so I cannot see why the price was such a significant difference. For reference, we paid 640 ZAR or about 40 USD, and the price on Uber was 225 ZAR, or about 14 USD. After two rides, that did add up, so I would suggest taking an Uber if you are comfortable.…
I booked this hotel in February of 2020 for 2 nights in September of 2020 and they immediately charged me for one night on a fully refundable booking. No problem until Covid shut everything down and I tried to get my money back. After months and months of excuses they have completely stopped answering my emails. Very disappointing because this looks like a lovely place to stay. However, after this experience I wouldn't stay here if it was the last place in left in Johannesburg. Beware!
The service, food and rooms were fabulous. We had a lovely time at The Winston for our wedding and will definitely visit again. The staff were professional and friendly. It's a lovely quiet location very close to Rosebank Mall en the Gautrain station. Superb!
Great personalised service from a delightful Team! Charming environment and exceptional cuisine! Lovely spacious rooms and bathrooms in a quiet location. Definitely recommended for business or leisure travel and perfectly located for either.
This was an absolutely charming hotel and the staff was amazing, friendly, helpful, they really made us feel at home. If you are a shopper, this is the place to be! Very close to Rosebank Mall, short walk. The hotel was ultra clean and comfortable, I can't say enough about the experience, we highly recommed this superior location if staying in Johannesburg.
We are frequent visitors at the hotel and this time it was not great. We ordered lunch and waited for an hour and a half. When the food finally arrived it was disappointing. Over priced and not appetizing. It is a pity as the location is great. No problem with 5 star prices but then I expect 5 star service and amenities
An absolutely beautiful venue for any event ! Staff was caring kind and on the go ready to assist! The food was amazing and everyone was very happy ! Will definitely be hosting another function here a will definitely stay over. Thank you
Booking process was difficult and frustrating. Quote was incorrect (quoted prices had changed). Hotel could not process payment on a South African credit card. Booked in for 5 nights. No hot water in the room on the first 2 mornings. Had to change rooms to get hot water. Welcome dinner promised on night of arrival never happened. When questioned about it, was met with indifference by the staff. Airport transfer agreed advertised and quoted at R180 suddenly ramped up to R250 without any warning. Again, when queried, met with indifference by staff. General lack of professionalism.
I had the most wonderful stay and this magnificent hotel. A huge thank you for being so hospitable and making my stay so special. To everyone reading this I highly recommend this hotel it’s beautiful, luxurious and the service is spectacular.
