The Winston has made a strategic business decision not to disclose on their website the heavy contraction immediately outside of occupied guest rooms. The website clearly states "Unwind. Relax time", and markets the property as a luxurious, relaxing experience. There is no way to relax or make use of amenities because there is loud construction happening directly outside of guest rooms and in the common area! We left the hotel within 20 minutes of our arrival and asked for a refund because the construction wasn’t disclosed at time of booking. A manager agreed to refund our booking, but still have not refunded it 3 weeks later after 3 followup emails. I have stayed more than 500 nights in hotels over the past 6 years, and this is the only time I have ever opened a chargeback against one.

I am very sorry to report my very bad experience with The Winston Hotel. We booked 6 rooms for 15 people. Unfortunately we had to cancel 1 of them. We called the hotel 48h before check-in and asked if this was possible and what would be charged. The Hotel told us that it was not a problem: we could cancel it and that there would be no charge for the 6th room. When the rest of the group checked-in we learnt that the full amount for 2 nights for the 6th room had already been charged and would not be refunded. We asked for clarifications but the hotel has not answered our several emails and calls about it. This is a very unpleasant situation and I would not expect this kind of behaviours from a 5-star hotel. Very unprofessional.

Sadly a very disappointing stay - excellent friendly welcome & efficient service from Reception , but almost everything else had problems: no wine list/drinks list in the bar, gin and tonic served with no lemon - when asked as to whether lemon could be added the barman managed to look up from his phone long enough to say he couldn't find any. ( i guess the kitchen is too far away ) no wine list in the restaurant for lunch, waitress had clearly not been trained at all to advise on what wine there was, or even different kinds of wine. I had to go with her to the bar fridges to actually choose wine as initially we were told that they only had one bottle of chardonnay in the whole hotel, and that was not the case at all. Fish cakes for lunch were cold, good quality club sandwich & fries. Very nice room, but bath not cleaned, with hairs in it. Shwe Shwe gowns, much advertised online were not in the room and had to be called down for. Room was not refreshed/ turned down when we went out for a dinner, despite there only being a few other room occupied. Breakfast was good , but all the bread for toasting was very stale, and appeared to be from the day before. Friendly waiter service at breakfast. Efficient and friendly checkout, the lady at Reception really knows what she is doing and how to make visitors feel welcome. Lots of training required elsewhere however...

This was a beautiful hotel, all of the staff were very friendly and helpful. It is conveniently located near the Rosebank Mall and the area felt very safe. We walked over to the mall several times for our meals. It was quite cold this time of year and the only complaint we had was that the water did not get very hot in some of our rooms.

Fantastic staff and decent rooms which are a bit run down. Unfortunately the main light switch in our room did not work which we only found out when trying to switch the lights off. We had to switch all the electricity off. The following day we were moved to a different room but I feel that an apology was not good enough. How about offering us a breakfast at the restaurant or something??? We won’t be going back.

I booked this hotel via their website for my elderly mother who is traveling to SA for the first time and is extremely nervous. The website states that you will not be charged and can change your booking up to 48 hours in advance. However, the FULL amount was taken from my account upon booking. I then wrote to them to amend the booking as flights had changed and to request a refund for the nights I wouldn't take anymore. No response. I called. Spoke to Anne. Promised me TWICE I would be refunded and she would respond to my email... Phoned again. Asked for the manager twice. No answer. Was promised I would get a call back. No call back and no email correspondence. I am now desperate to get my money back and will be taking my mother elsewhere. BEWARE! This is not an establishment you want to do business with. Something is very very off here...

Sadly there was an issue with my room which meant I had to be swapped. In my new room the bed was as hard as a plank, meaning no sleep for me. Although requesting a swap back several times my request was ignored. So, although I visit Johannesburg weekly, I won’t stay here again due to the beds. The Hyatt closeby has great beads and much softer linen.

The Winston Hotel in Rosebank, which is soon going to be The Park Hyatt Johannesburg is such a gorgeous, stylish, relaxed place, and I can't wait to see how Hyatt is going to take it even one step further. On this occasion, I only came for breakfast with the family. Apart from the security guy at the entrance, every single staff member was charming and efficient. And our waiter (from the DRC?) was a willing and able photographer... :) The Breakfast buffet is not the biggest in town but has everything you want in the morning and is a good value at R250 pp. On the day of our visit, they were out of smoked salmon. So instead of Eggs Benedict, I chose the omelet. A great alternative. We'll definitely be back. A relaxed time is always ensured here.
