My wife and I arrived for our reservation at this hotel and found it closed. They had not notified us or cancelled our reservation. This is the epitome of poor service. Luckily we were able to book a room at The Residence, where we had stayed previously

This is probably One of the most beautiful boutique hotels I’ve ever been. It’s Very stylish with stunning designs and lots of character. I stayed in the Acacia Suite which had a tub and a balcony. I took an Uber from the airport and it was about 30 minutes ride. The neighborhood seems to be residential. Very clean and quiet (not much to do around, but i took Ubers everyone). For breakfast I had to choose from the menu and they served it to me to the dinning room. I didn’t see any other guest Neg: 1. They hosted someone’s bday party while I was there so I couldn’t have dinner in the dinning room and the music was playing until midnight . No told me this was happening or apologized for that in advance . So it was quite frustrating knowing that i needed to wake up early for a flight. 2. I wish they gave me some guidelines about the hotel (breakfast time, how to order it, pool time opening / closing/ etc....) 3. Very few outlets in the room. Was challenging to find one to charge. 4. Couldn’t switch on the a/c so it got very warm at night. Despite the neg, if I ever come back to Johannesburg, I’d probably give the Munro boutique hotel another chance.

A stunning hotel with an amazing view of Sandford. The room was stunning and the staff were fab. A very chilled and laid back feeling in the hotel. They arranged airport pick ups and trips with a local company who were fab too (knd tours).

Exquisite views and the food and hospitality is brilliant. Rooms are beautifully appointed. Owner run and managed makes for a home from home experience. Or should I say home to palace. And the gardens. OMG. Paradise!

We had a beautiful stay at The Munro. The staff was incredibly attentive and the room was beautiful, with a large comfortable bed and a view overlooking the courtyard. The bath products were very nice too! The hotel is located in a very pretty neighborhood with many great restaurants nearby. It definitely helped kick off a great trip to South Africa.

This place is everything I thought it would be and much more. It’s perfect in every way. Room 2 is huge, in suite bathroom is enormous with a very large soaking tub, two sinks, dressing area. We were on the second floor and had a large terrace that overlooked Johannesburg. The entire hotel exudes class, style and sophistication. They have a lovely infinity pool and the outside area has breathtaking views of the garden and Johannesburg. Arrangements can be made with the hotel for pickup at the airport for a fee. You can have breakfast in your room, the terrace or the Dining room. I’m not understanding some of the bad reviews about the food since every meal we had was done to perfection, delicious and beautifully presented. The owner Mark came out to meet us and was very gracious. What a terrific staff too; Suzy, James and Freeman were so friendly, helpful and accommodating. We also met the Chef, Joshua, as we kept saying how wonderful the food was so he came out to chat with us. We stayed here to rejuvenate from a 20 day adventure through South Africa before our long flight home. Staying at The Munro Boutique Hotel was the perfect ending to our trip. No need to look further.

The place was stunning and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The swimming pool and area were breathtaking. The food, on the other hand, was terrible. They would be better off not offering food as it let the whole place down. We had to pre-order (over 5 hours) in advance for our dinner - so we were expecting fantastic fresh tasty food. unfortunately what we received was nothing like what we had ordered, my chicken was dry and my boyfriends salmon was raw in the middle.

Thank you for taking the time to share your review with us. Our staff really are the heart of The Munro and guests are always in awe of the beautiful views. We are so sorry to hear of your disappointment with the food. This is an area where we are always complimented. We have escalated your review to our kitchen staff and can assure you that we are always looking for ways to improve. Salmon is always a tricky dish as guests often have their own personal preference in the way it is prepared. We take great pride in our cuisine and only hope that when you do visit again that your meals are prepared in the precise way that our guests have come to love and enjoy. We do hope you visit us again so we can provide the ultimate cuisine experience that we are proud to present. Best regards Belinda Pinto

We stayed in the room downstairs which shouldn't be a room. we were expecting a view as advertised on the Website and we got a view of the parking lot. We couldn't sleep well because of a persistent dripping toilet noise (not our toilet) and a massive fridge or generator noise. The personnel is very nice and location too.

We are so sorry to hear of your disappointing experience at The Munro. We strive to always ensure that our guests are comfortable and enjoy their stay. May we please ask where you viewed the advertisement mentioning that the Syringa Suite had a view? Our website only states that this suite opens up to the conservatory and koi ponds. If you could kindly let us know which platform you saw this on, we can get in touch with them to rectify their details. With regards to the sound levels, we sincerely apologize for your unsettled sleep. Our team will certainly investigate this and take action where necessary. Thank you for your compliments on the team, they really are the heart of The Munro. We do hope you visit again soon and perhaps book one of our upstairs rooms so that you can enjoy the beautiful views of the Johannesburg urban forest.

We last stayed at The Munro about 5 years ago and we found everything perfect, from the welcome to departure. We noticed the advert for the equinox dinner and decided to book for both the dinner and a room / suite. We arrived just before 18:00, and while I appreciate that the F&B team were in the process of setting up, the welcome and check - in was completely underwhelming, in comparison to our first visit. Also no one to assist with the bags, which is not an issue, but something that is expected at a 5 star boutique hotel. The suite was beautiful, but again little things which show that the attention to detail was lacking - the batteries in the safe were flat and could not be used / set, and there was no plug attached to the chain on the handbasin - this made it very difficult to run water for a shave, and wash our faces. When you pay what you pay at The Munro, these things need to be spot on. On to the dinner. We initially sat in the lounge and ordered drinks. I ordered a bottle of red wine. Unfortunately, the glass was simply poured without a taste pour first. The setting for dinner was beautiful. The flavors of the 7 course dinner were outstanding. Again however there were a few little things: the starter comprised three separate dishes, one of which was a risotto. These dishes seemed to have been plates well in advance because the temperature was luke warm; the cheese platter had been refrigerated and not been brought to room temperature before serving which meant that the cheese stuck to the plate, and there were no biscuit/ bread served, to eat the cheese with / on and the cutlery changes were not as efficient as they could have been. Despite my comments we will be back - it’s a beautiful hotel with beautiful views.
