Stayed 3 nights. Good breakfast and friendly staff but property needs attention- could not shower without soaking bathroom floor as no shower curtain. Got eaten alive at night as no air conditioning and no insect screens on windows and no fans. Also had to endure a full day of screeching power grinding which started at 9am. Would not stay again unless budget was an issue.
Service and food were great. Bedroom could do with a bit of improvement - a mirror above the washbasin and a new mattress would be very nice. They were very helpful about my late arrival. Walks on the property gave great views.
App does not allow a zero star rating, hence you are lucky to get a one star. Absolutely the worst place I have ever slept at. At R880 per night for 'luxury' suite is a disgracing joke. My conference ended a day earlier so I booked out, not needing to sleep a second evening. After big promises of refunding that second evening and after numerous calls, I never saw the money.
The GL Cottages has a unique design set where each room is customised to a different country’s feature. I was quite impressed by the number of rooms available there and the warm hosting I received during my stay from the staff. The cottage is at the foot of a hill which you can climb for 5 mins for a wonderful view of Johannesburg. My favorite time on the hill was at dusk and at dawn. The cottage is in a very secured area and this was one of the main reasons I loved staying there. If you are a nature lover, this is a good inexpensive place to stay in Johannesburg. They also provide good taxi services. However, if you want to order dinner from the restaurant you have to do so before 4pm or otherwise eat outside. The tv and WiFi signals are low in the rooms. Not every channel works on the tv and I had to go sit at reception when I needed good WiFi connection. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place.…
This is a fantastic set of cottages, and a great alternative conference venue in Johannesburg for groups of up to a few dozen. Accommodations are a bit more rustic than a major hotel, but very comfortable. It's also close to the international airport. The setting is serene: beautiful, expansive gardens and access to Observatory Ridge with panoramic views over Johannesburg make you feel like you're not in the city. Though everything about the place is wonderful, the warm and welcoming staff are the real highlight. They helped meet every request we had, and the food, care, and hospitality were top notch. Highly recommended, whether you need a base camp in Johannesburg or you need a good and very reasonable conference venue.
