Stayed 3 nights. Good breakfast and friendly staff but property needs attention- could not shower without soaking bathroom floor as no shower curtain. Got eaten alive at night as no air conditioning and no insect screens on windows and no fans. Also had to endure a full day of screeching power grinding which started at 9am. Would not stay again unless budget was an issue.

Service and food were great. Bedroom could do with a bit of improvement - a mirror above the washbasin and a new mattress would be very nice. They were very helpful about my late arrival. Walks on the property gave great views.

App does not allow a zero star rating, hence you are lucky to get a one star. Absolutely the worst place I have ever slept at. At R880 per night for 'luxury' suite is a disgracing joke. My conference ended a day earlier so I booked out, not needing to sleep a second evening. After big promises of refunding that second evening and after numerous calls, I never saw the money.

The GL Cottages has a unique design set where each room is customised to a different country’s feature. I was quite impressed by the number of rooms available there and the warm hosting I received during my stay from the staff. The cottage is at the foot of a hill which you can climb for 5 mins for a wonderful view of Johannesburg. My favorite time on the hill was at dusk and at dawn. The cottage is in a very secured area and this was one of the main reasons I loved staying there. If you are a nature lover, this is a good inexpensive place to stay in Johannesburg. They also provide good taxi services. However, if you want to order dinner from the restaurant you have to do so before 4pm or otherwise eat outside. The tv and WiFi signals are low in the rooms. Not every channel works on the tv and I had to go sit at reception when I needed good WiFi connection. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place.

This is a fantastic set of cottages, and a great alternative conference venue in Johannesburg for groups of up to a few dozen. Accommodations are a bit more rustic than a major hotel, but very comfortable. It's also close to the international airport. The setting is serene: beautiful, expansive gardens and access to Observatory Ridge with panoramic views over Johannesburg make you feel like you're not in the city. Though everything about the place is wonderful, the warm and welcoming staff are the real highlight. They helped meet every request we had, and the food, care, and hospitality were top notch. Highly recommended, whether you need a base camp in Johannesburg or you need a good and very reasonable conference venue.

An absolutely beautiful compound with gardens and trails to explore. You can walk all the way to the top of the highest hill around and get a spectacular view of Johannesburg. The room was clean and the service was very friendly.

A wonderful venue in the middle of Johannesburg. Quaint cottages that are well kept in a leafy peaceful environment. A wonderful kitchen with home cooked meals! I'm definitely back to support this wonderful initiative.

The staff are an absolute joy and cannot do enough. The problem lies in the maintenance management where clearly the staff is not sufficiently trained to note problems and on site management do not understand possibly implications. Issues found- shower outlet does not function properly. Staff was aware of this but nothing is done. Shower leaks on side whilst a simple silicone application will resolve the problem. Light switches sensitive to touch and is in need of a proper service. Consider a infrared scan throughout. This is a thatched area and electricity faults can easilly ignite a fire! The room was fine and is standard. The rate however I believe is too high when 2 persons share- rather consider a rate for the room and add cost for breakfast and towels extra. The surrounds are beautifull and gardens well kept. There is a water leak noticable and audible in the garden but it is not addressed. I am happy to make use of the facility again because it is well situated for me subject to the price.

I took a group of 30 colleagues to attend a training workshop at the GL cottages and it was the best decision that i made. It was an excellent place to be. was great for team building and all. Staff are great and very warm. The food was fresh and "home made"

You won't find nicer, more friendly staff in Johannesburg. So helpful & warm. The grounds are delightful with thatched buildings & beautifully maintained gardens, all very pretty. The room we stayed in (a family suite with two rooms) could be better - a little cold and damp & beds were uncomfortable. But on seeing other rooms in the complex, it may be that it was just this one that needed some attention. Food was lovely in the restaurant & the services such as laundry and transportation were excellent. A nice place to stay in the right room.
