This was a really great stay for me, a quiet place to work from, and the place just looks nice, I enjoyed the breakfast there and a night out the nearby clubs, truly value for money, I highly recommend it.

2 cellphones from a locked safe in our room were stolen on the second day of our stay. No traces of burglary, apparently this theft seems to be an inside job. The safe was opened with a key during the time we went out for dinner. We reported the theft to the manager who had no explanation nor took responsibility for the theft of our valuables. We have reported the matter to the police, a case has been opened. The police took our report seriously. Correct and courteous. The investigation is ongoing. But we have lost our cellphones, which is a traumatic experience when travelling. Security in this guesthouse cannot be trusted, nor the people who work there. Check in at your own risk!

Dear Eddy D, You have been a guest of ours for many years and we are devastated to read this review from you. In the decades we have been operating we have NEVER once had an incident of theft and so this comes as a shock to us. I am terribly sorry that this has happened. You believe that your phones were stolen from your room safe but the only key to the safe that we have was in your possession and we would have had no way of accessing the safe otherwise (silly I know, but we just never had additional keys made!). As you stated, there was no sign of forced entry in your room or on the safe and we have a 24hr security guard who resides on the property and was there the night in reference. The detective who has looked into your report has come up with no evidence of theft from the property. I really am sorry that you didn't feel supported by us, as the Owner that is my fault. I understood that you were going to report it to the police as an administrative requirement to submit an insurance claim and I didn't realise that you thought we were somehow involved. The team member that you reported has been with us from the very beginning and started as an intern moving up to Senior Service-Agent. We have guests who come back to us just to see him and I've entrusted him with everything from caring for our valued guests and clients to our finances. Though I really want to be sensitive to your experience I really cannot accept your unfounded accusations of our team. To date, the police investigation has provided no evidence to support your claims and I am confident they will not. I really do hope that you resolve the disappearance of your phones and that this hopefully restores your trust in us. This is such an unfortunate outcome, we always loved hosting you. Warmest regards, Zorana

We booked two rooms for an overnight trip to Johannesburg. We arrived to a friendly greeting however, the lady who met us made it clear that as soon as she was done with us she was gong off - 'see you tomorrow, she said'. The rooms looked good but closer inspection revealed that they were not as comfy as the first look or the website pics promised - no hangers in the cupboard; no rack for suitcases; an empty fridge that froze any item put into it, with not even a bottle of water (yet the website promises an in- room honesty bar); the shower door was ill-fitting, and the mattress caved towards the middle. But the biggest surprise was waking up in the morning and finding no-one around. And no breakfast! Attempts to phone the number pasted to the wall of the dining room were met with 'this is the wrong number and I have asked them to change it many times before'. A WhatsApp to the number that was so eager to take our booking a few days ago went unread until much much later in the day. Finally in desperation, we heaved our cases into our car, locked the door behind us and tossed the keys over the wall. We drove off to the Service Station for breakfast (highly recommended!). Later we were told 'sorry we forgot to tell you since COVID we no longer offer breakfast'. Really? The website indicates breakfast - in fact it boasts that 'we are very passionate about our breakfast' and the invoice boldly stated Bed and Breakfast. When this was pointed out we were refunded a miserly R75 per person for breakfast. About the empty house and the keys over the wall, nothing was said.

Dear Voyager815888, This review hurts, but we deserve it. Most everything you described about your experience is true - except for the detail of breakfast - we do provide an amazing breakfast, it just happens to be right next door at De La Creme which is a bakery and an institution in the Melville community. That isn't helpful though if you don't know about it! What a huge fail on our behalf. Everything you reported is true - we missed the hangers in your room, not all of our rooms have suitcase racks, we no longer offer an honesty bar, and your Guest-Service Agent was late for work and missed you in the morning. There is nothing I can say to justify this, we really let you down. It has been a very difficult year for our business, we have had to cut our team in half to stay afloat and I'm really proud of the fact that our business has managed to survive thanks to the hard work of our team. The good news is that our lovely guests are finally coming back and we are now trying to get back to providing our usual services and onboarding our team again. This comes with some growing pains but we aren't complaining, except for the fact that you had to pay for our errors. You are right to be upset and we really wanted to make it up to you, but when we tried to reach out to you for constructive feedback your response was that we should 'fire our whole team' - this was hurtful to us. We are all just trying to come out an unprecedented period in our industry and we are trying our best - but we will try even harder now!! Thank you for your feedback, it will only help us get better! We have already solved for all of your bad experiences and we only have you to thank for that. Warmest regards, Zorana
