The Hotel has beautiful themed Suites surrounded by a lovely garden and pool area. I stayed in the Presidential Suite which was very pleasant | spacious and comfortable. There is a beautiful Piano Lounge which has unique antiques with a great ambiance. The cuisine was great and the service was excellent. Thank you to Hazel | Gift | Thandi and Gigi for ensuring that I was well taken care of. Overall I had a pleasant stay and would recommend a visit to Villa Simonne Boutique Hotel.
After months of planning our wedding and making reservations with all suppliers, our big day finally arrived. Our wedding venue had made reservations for our family and friends to stay over at Villa Simmone. Over the last few months of 2021 I constantly called Villa Simmone to find out if everything was in order. I was ASSURED, that the Villa had been reserved for us. Still the Villa allowed their various booking platforms to allow bookings for the weekend of our wedding. Again we contacted Villa Simmone to get explanations for what was going on. We were assured that the system on their side would not allow any bookings as it was reserved for us, we had the entire Villa and everything was in order. Two days before our wedding, we get called by the Villa to advise that we only have 14 rooms out of the 16. The family rooms were not available. That was the first time we heard anything about non-avaialibilty. We were never informed that some rooms would not be available. Another plan had to be made for the families. The Villa would not take responsibility and we had to pay for alternative accommodation for the families. Plans made by the Villa were useless as they tried to make reservations at another hotel - however, not for the amount of people who had lost their designated rooms, being 2 families consisting our of 10 members. Thus we had to make our own arrangements. During my telephonic conversation with the owner, he ASSURED me that our guests would not be disturbed. Upon arrival at the Villa, it was unclean. There were lies upon lies told to us. The room Bali was under "construction". When I walked past Bali, IT was there. Matador had a "plumbing" issue, but we saw with our own eyes how guests where walking in and out of the room. Our guests had to be moved and were not accommodated. A new room named Dali surfaced. We were not informed about it when speaking to the manager, the day before our arrival, as we could have placed a family in that room before making a booking at another location. Where a room was advertised with 2 single beds a double bed was given - clearly false advertising. A new day approached, and we were faced with many more problems. Towels were not replaced with fresh ones. Rooms were left unlocked by the cleaning staff. Clothing had been removed from the room and our guest found it downstairs. Cars were parked in the middle of the driveway hindering our guest to leave the Villa to go to the Venue. Our wedding day, the latter happened despite the manager saying we will not be disturbed. When another guest had to check in on the night of our wedding, reception took the guests to 3 different rooms before showing them the correct room. No communication and very unprofessional. One room had dishes which were not removed from who knows where. There were permantely new faces on the premises. A party was held on Saturday night and the premises was not cleaned afterwards. So when our guests arrived for breakfast on Sunday it was a mess. The electricity was off and no plan was made for coffee until we demanded the the Villa order coffee from outside and pay for it. It was then when an extension was connected from the coffee machine to the reception area, where the running generator could be found for light and the receptions PC. Take note a generator was running in the reception area but the receptionist had taken off after being confronted by us and when further complaints wanted to be given, there was no one to hear them. Being a place in Houghton there is no proper backup generator to provide guest with warm water when they wake up to take a shower and/or bath. The bathrooms at the reception had not been clean. It was disgusting. The staff only started cleaning the premises, from the night befores party, 10minutes before the owner arrived. Despite the chaos happening at the Villa, the Ower only arrived 2 to 3 hours later. Lies upon lies were told to us. The Owner would not take the bride seriously and undermined her for being a woman. The latter was evident when the men confronted the owner, he then jumped to come meet them at the premises and hear their complaints and try to sort them out. We only had one opportunity to have our families stay together and it was a total mess. It was embarrassing telling our family all the things and having them see the events unfold before their eyes. On Sunday morning we were asked to first move our car, for a 'First Lady' of a country, before they would attend to us. It then become evident that we had been messed around the entire weekend because of the First Lady, which had made no reservations months before like we had. It was made known to us, by the owner, that the First Lady only booked 2 rooms. Possibly our 2 family rooms? And further suggested that we inconvenienced them as 7 bodyguards had to sleep in the conference room. It comes across as opportunistic as it seems The Villa made double bookings for pure financial gain. Villa Simmone would not take responsibility for anything and kept passing the bucket and wanting to blame things on our Wedding Venue. It is obvious that our Wedding Venue cannot be liable for the horrible administration skills displayed by the Villa. It was alleged that staff had resigned from the inception of our booking until the date of our stay. The latter being untrue as the bride always spoke to one specific lady who was still working there on day of the function, when contact was made as set out in paragraph 2 above. The pictures on the website do not give a true reflection of what you get and you will be disappointed upon arrival. We do not recommend Villa Simmone to any individual or venue wanting to refer their guests there. You will just be disappointed. My rating is based on the food and venue only because the hotel was fully booked. In my opion that was the main problem. Too many people and too little staff. We attended a function at the Hotel. The function was held under a small marqee tent in the garden close to the Piano Lounge. It rained and the floors leading to the outside restrooms were very slippery. The restrooms inside the bar and outside were extremely dirty. The staff was very nervous and not very friendly. We never saw the event coordinator. The meal consisted of finger foods. We did not receive any hand wipes to clean our hands before the meal. We had no plates, cutlery or serviettes on the table. At one stage I had to put my food on the table. The food was very dissapointing. The menu was monotonous and lacked intereset, variety and colour. The rules of menu planning did not exist. Repeats of ingredients were through out the whole menu. The same with the dessert, no plates or serviettes. The event coordinator needs to convince clients for better menu choices. The wine glasses were all different in style and sizes. Cleaning staff should be appointed to clean floors and restrooms during the function. The open swimming pool is a serious risk if children attend a function. The finger food menu and small tent option is not suitable for formal functions and weddings.…
Hotel is an absolute dream! All the rooms are individually styled, we stayed in the Great Gatsby and it was wonderful. Staff are very friendly, and all the facilities are well maintained. Hotel even has giant tortoises on site!
Stayed here for 4 nights with my wife and son. Rooms are very nice and cozy. Ambiance and sorrounding garden is very beautiful and relaxing. Also has a small pool dor relaxing. And the staff are all very friendly and accomodating. I really am recommending this place to everyone planning to visit Johannesburg. To Villa Simmonne staff, thank you very much for being a part of our very pleasant and enjoyable visit in this beautiful city.
