Property processed a double booking and refused to honour my reservation despite booking it first. Restaurant service is slow, but staff is friendly. Food is ok, but very overpriced for the quality- chicken schnitzel was small and thin (R180). The chocolate lava dessert had no "lava" to speak of. Room was clean and comfortable, but not at all what I booked or expected.

Dear Mrs Leone, Thank you for you for taking the time to leave a review. We genuinely appreciate your feedback as it allows us an opportunity to rectify any shortcomings and improve upon them. We sincerely apologise for any inconveniences caused on your booking due to a system glitch that allowed a double booking to the same room type. Your comments on the food will be shared with our Food and Bev management team so they can make necessary adjustments to enhance the quality of the chicken schnitzel and the chocolate lava. We highly recommend this Boutique Hotel set in a quiet and pretty street in upmarket Houghton. We stayed for three nights in the Emperor Nero Suite and it was perfect in every way - comfortable beds, well appointed bathroom, a separate sitting room with television and a roomy balcony. The room also has a good sized fridge, a microwave and air conditioning. We ate in the hotel one evening and it was delicious. Breakfast every day was very good with freshly made coffee, fresh fruit and many cooked options available. The staff were, without exception, very attentive and polite with special mention to Fisherman who went above and beyond in every regard. The premises are clean and well kept as well as feeling very secure. We would definitely stay here again.

Avoid the hustle and hectic pace of the city and those never ending shopping malls. Stay at the Villa Simone and experience something very unusual and very charming!! In the upmarket area of Houghton, just along the street where Nelson Mandela once lived, stands behind a large and secure wall is this very unusual hotel. Surrounded by beautiful tranquil gardens, with a nice pool, this once a very rich man's mansion is now an all suite hotel. The suites are large and all themed, such as Matador, Balmoral, Olympia and many others. The service, food and price are all exceptional. The decor and various areas of the hotel are a sheer delight and a promise of a very remarkable stay,

We stayed for two nights, recovering from a long-haul flight and could have stayed at something more corporate closer to the airport but since there's three of us, the offering here of a two bedroom apartment was very appealing and cost effective. We are delighted that we did, as the staff were extremely attentive and the grounds were spacious and great for relaxing. The downsides were the the pool, while clean, was not heated so we could only dangle our feet in. A little more problematic was that the wifi was down. So come prepared with your own data--we walked to the nearby mall and got a data plan--and be prepared to enjoy the calm, chill and quirky atmosphere.

The Hotel has beautiful themed Suites surrounded by a lovely garden and pool area. I stayed in the Presidential Suite which was very pleasant | spacious and comfortable. There is a beautiful Piano Lounge which has unique antiques with a great ambiance. The cuisine was great and the service was excellent. Thank you to Hazel | Gift | Thandi and Gigi for ensuring that I was well taken care of. Overall I had a pleasant stay and would recommend a visit to Villa Simonne Boutique Hotel.

My rating is based on the food and venue only because the hotel was fully booked. In my opion that was the main problem. Too many people and too little staff. We attended a function at the Hotel. The function was held under a small marqee tent in the garden close to the Piano Lounge. It rained and the floors leading to the outside restrooms were very slippery. The restrooms inside the bar and outside were extremely dirty. The staff was very nervous and not very friendly. We never saw the event coordinator. The meal consisted of finger foods. We did not receive any hand wipes to clean our hands before the meal. We had no plates, cutlery or serviettes on the table. At one stage I had to put my food on the table. The food was very dissapointing. The menu was monotonous and lacked intereset, variety and colour. The rules of menu planning did not exist. Repeats of ingredients were through out the whole menu. The same with the dessert, no plates or serviettes. The event coordinator needs to convince clients for better menu choices. The wine glasses were all different in style and sizes. Cleaning staff should be appointed to clean floors and restrooms during the function. The open swimming pool is a serious risk if children attend a function. The finger food menu and small tent option is not suitable for formal functions and weddings.

Stayed for two nights. Because of wife’s disability given a garden bungalow. Hotel itself does not have a lift. Bungalow was good but does need some serious attention to modernise it and do basic maintenance. Suited us for the two nights but you would be hard pressed to stay in it for any length of time. Hotel grounds are very good and lots of places where you can sit and commune with nature, read a book or just socialise. Security is very good and there is a controlled entry to the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and nothing was a problem for them. The hotel is full of memorabilia and you need to browse through the various items. For those of us who are slightly more mature it will bring back many memories. Breakfast was standard hotel fare but good and adequate. We ate dinner one night and enjoyed it. We would stay here again.
