With direct access to the Central Business Districts of Johannesburg and Sandton, our hotel provides easy access to the city's corporate area, making business a breeze.
When you arrive, take some time to relax alongside our outdoor pool or sample some of the best South African wines on our beautiful outdoor deck overlooking our lush gardens. Feeling peckish? Dine on some fresh cuisine prepared at our Milner's Restaurant.
Our hotel is ideally located close to all major highways. The University of Witwatersrand's Medical School is in close proximity and the Gautrain Station, Parkstation, is a mere 2 km away allowing for favourable travel in and around Johannesburg and Pretoria.
1st Room given, was falling apart, air conditioner did not work. Carpet was dirty, curtains coming of its rail. Door to balcony would not lock. Room was on street side, very noisy! Kindly given another room facing the gardens. Not much better, but at least air conditioner worked. The noise of renovations on the floor above was rather overwhelming, as well as the leaf blowers used in the garden, non-stop from 07h00 to 16H00. Food in restaurant was dismal. Please note that there are no other restaurants walking distance away and its not safe to walk in any event. (I did not have a vehicle) The Pub was closed, due to Covid, even though Covid rules have changed at that time. However, room service was available. I do emphasize that the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff did, up to a point, make up for the bad rooms and pathetic restaurant. I chose the hotel as it is close to Parklane Hospital. Still, the price of R1,200 is not justifiable! Do not understand how the hotel can have a 4.5* rating!…
I have stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions in the past, and became quite fond of it, but it had been several years since my last stay. I was aware that the property had been taken over by Holiday Inn and that there had been some renovations completed, so was interested (and hoping) that the what had become quite shabby in some areas had been improved and updated My son and I arrived on a wet Friday evening. There is no parking near the entrance and so we got quite wet going to reception to check in. There was no one on the door to greet us but once inside we did receive a friendly welcome from the receptionist. We arrived at 7 pm, (check in time is from 2 pm) and even though the hotel seemed completely deserted,(I later likened it to a ghost ship- as we saw only one other guest in the public areas) our room was NOT ready for us. We had driven all the way from Cape Town and so needless to say we were NOT AT ALL impressed by this. The receptionist offered us tea while we waited for our room to be ready. We accepted the offer, but would have much rather have been able to go straight to our rooms. Once we got to our room it was very spacious, clean and comfortable - this is one of the great benefits of staying in this hotel. Rooms are much more spacious than compared to modern hotels. Tea and coffee making facilities were available but as a tea drinker I found it unacceptable for a 4 star hotel to only have powdered creamer available. Previously small pots of milk were supplied. When I hi-lighted the issue it was addressed politely, and a glass of fresh milk was sent up to my room by housekeeping. We also noted that even though there were 2 of us booked in the room only 1 small bottle of mineral water was provided. We had a very comfortable nights sleep It was very disappointing that the Pound and Penny pub was not operational. (It was Friday night after all!). It would have definitely added some atmosphere to the eerily quiet hotel - and encouraged us to eat and drink in house. We were advised that it had been closed down with the COVID lockdowns and had not re-opened since. The Sunnyside Park Hotel offers good value for money spacious rooms, friendly staff, secure parking and a leafy, countryside feel location. I have just made another booking there for next week, so please Sunnyside Park Management ensure that our room is READY for us when we arrive!…
I stayed here in early November, 2021, just before omicron became known in South Africa. I felt very safe here in a COVID world--there was hand sanitizer everywhere and all the staff and guests were wearing masks. They took good precautions in the dinning room, leaving the windows and doors open to get good ventilation. I was there for business and also felt safe in the meeting room with all of the windows open. The hotel itself is beautiful and unique, and the grounds allowed me to get outside and exercise in fresh air, although there is also a gym available. Some of the rooms in the main building were a bit run down, but they were kept clean and I had everything I needed. The service was excellent from the front desk to housekeeping to restaurant staff to the manager, who helped me out with a hiccup in my plans (my fault--not theirs). And the internet was speedy and reliable throughout the hotel.…
I’ve been at this same hotel previously and was pleasantly surprised on this visit. It’s recently become a Holiday Inn and the transformation is slight but noticeable. The hotel itself has a rich history and originates in a different era. The high vaulted ceilings and wide open spaces is something that I’ve always liked about it, but it was getting old. The recent refurbishment has kept its old world charm, but the amenities have been upgraded. Everything from the bathrooms, to the dining hall and fitness Centre. Certain features such as the ornate wood paneling and solid wooden staircases still remain, but the mix gives a nice mix of old world opulence and modern convenience. And the breakfast staff has remained from the old hotel and it is excellent. Anyway, really enjoyed my stay and would highly recommend. …
Good experience. Nice mix of old and new. Generally the service was good with two exceptions. The location is great - very peaceful area and close to Killarney Mall; and the facilities are quite good as well. Go for it.
