This is an interesting boutique hotel in Norwood, a lively suburban part of Johannesburg with many restaurants within walking distance and most places of interest within an easy drive. We stayed just over a week and had two different rooms, see the notes below, unfortunately the rooms without the early morning banging were also the smaller rooms without a refrigerator. The hotel staff were superb and cannot be faulted, so helpful and friendly. The only meal served in this hotel is breakfast and my suggestion would be to book in as bed only and have breakfast at one of the restaurants around the corner. In the hotel there are only two cooked items on the menu, fried eggs or omelet and the cook can prepare neither.

Room Tip: The quieter rooms to the back are over a boxing gym, 5:30 in the morning the noise starts.

The hotel is not bad at all but the clubs nearby with their loud music throughout the night was annoying. TV stations were a let down because there were no South African new channel like 404 and 405 The staff was extremely friendly and helpful.

Food was decent, staff was friendly but the smell in the bathroom was quite bad. A very noisy room with the gym from next door starting training 6am and the cars driving up and down contributed to the noise factor.

Thank you for your review on our hotel. We are looking into the bathroom matter, thank you for bringing it to our attention. We apologise that you were disturbed by the noise from the street as well as the gym that resides in the next building. The Ascot is situated in an urban area where streets, cars and restaurants contribute to the noise that you heard. Thank you and apologies again The Ascot Team

Checked in with a large group and the staff did the best the could with such a large group. The people who work here are so friendly and kind. The management has done a great job training the staff. I typically stay at larger Marriott properties. This was a different experience. The room had an actual key to get into the room. The room itself was just ok, nothing fancy. The hotel was really small and only had rooms on a few floors. If you are into small, initimate hotels, this could be for you. The staff and the service was great, which made the stay very good.

Thank you for your long and lovely review on our staff. The Ascot is a very small (as you know) boutique hotel and the boutique way is very different to a main stream large roomed hotel. The service will always be better at a smaller hotel but it is not everyones cup of tea - boutique style. None the less we hope that you enjoyed your time with us whilst visiting our country Thank you The Ascot Team

The Ascot Hotel in Norwood is one of Johannesburg’s hidden gems. We spent our anniversary there and even though it was an overnight stay, we were so happy to have chosen this space to celebrate. The staff are very friendly and bring a lightness to the experience. Everyone is professional and adds their personality to the overall ambience. We were delighted to stay in a quiet room which was intimate and very well decorated. The bathrooms are huge and allow for all of the comfort thatvone seeks in a hotel establishment. The cherry on top was being greeted by the deliciousness of freshly baked breakfast goods upon our arrival downstairs. Thank you to everyone at The Ascot. We will see you soon! Best, Adv. Ipeleng Motuba and Mr. Otlotleng Mokgatle. P.S. THE BEDS!!!
