If I'd informed you( Quetus/Tanya, the owners) that I had other prior pre arranged horrible experiences at other hotel establishments and what those particular Noise Disturbances were Why would you create the same disturbing lounging situation unless you were conspiring and told to do as such...?!? After I checkout Sunday, obviously I and the few key people that I know over south africa won't be patronizing this place.

Not quite 4 star but it's not bad. We were a bit disappointed that the jacuzzi was not working (although it was part of the package). The room was nice but nothing remarkable about anything. There was also nothing really bad about it, just don't expect too much. Loadshedding took place during our evening spent there and although they have a generator it was not switched on and we couldn't find a candles or emergency light. The road was quite bad and full of potholes but this is not the hotels fault, just something to keep in mind if you have to drive at night.

Well secured place. Room cleaning needs some attention though the superviser is very prompt to take required action. Breakfast and foods are good. The Spa is excellent with very reasonably priced. Little away from the city which is bit disadvantageous but good place for the weekend stay.

Had a wonderful stay with my group on the second day of our arrival. First day has some challenges and everything was excellent after discussing with the hotel. food was excellent, rooms with heaters, those who were not having heaters were allocated electric blankets, extra clean rooms with friendly staff. Owner made sure that everything is up to date and we are all satisfied. it accommodates kids enetrtainment and spa. Has a bar that one had a blast at it.

Relook the taste of your breakfast. Or maybe the brands used for breakfast. The beacon, pork banger , eggs and butter oh not for getting the mushroom was terrible. The shower is very small and i didnt like the brown towels.

Response from quintus2014, General Manager at Soli Deo Gloria (SDG) Boutique Hotel
Responded 12 Feb 2019
Thank you for the feedback, we always en-devour to be better. Our head chef will provide training and investigate the brands that is used. Next time you book request our more luxurious rooms for bigger shower and bath facilities. The light brown towels we chose because it fits in with our rustic bush feel. Thank you again for your feedback

What to say about Soli Deo Gloria Boutique Hotel…? Let me start by saying that the staff and manager are trying. They are not ignoring clients’ complaints but this is unfortunately not enough. From the rooms, to the restaurant, from the security to the servicing of rooms, I can’t think of one positive thing to say. We booked one night at the hotel believing it was a 4 star hotel. Then we decided to add an extra night to make sure we didn’t have to rush on the Saturday. I tried to get in touch numerous times with the hotel over a couple of days period but could not get hold of anyone. I eventually managed to get a cell number to speak to the hotel manager and make sure that we would not have to change rooms as it was 2 separate bookings. To apologize for the lack of communication, he advised that he would upgrade us for the stay. Nice! It all started on a positive note. So we arrived at the hotel on the Friday afternoon. After waiting for probably 5 minutes at the [tiny] reception, someone arrived, made us fill in a full form [including medical aid details???] and then walked us to our “upgraded” room. First impression – this is a very big room. No doubt about it, the room is very spacious. We unpacked our luggage – very difficult as there is nowhere to put your luggage but on the floor or on the bed… Before putting our clothes in the wardrobe, I had to dust it as there was a lot of dust in it. Not great, Then the bathroom. I took all our toiletry there but realized that you have no place but a tiny shelf under the sink to put your things. So, we had to put most of our belonging on the floor. When we walked to the restaurant (dinner was included in the rate), we found a PUB! Yes, just a pub with bare tables. We initially thought we were in the wrong place. But no, this is the only restaurant – if you can call this a restaurant – on site. We got the menu and it was nothing more than pub food: steak egg and chips, chicken strips, pub basket and a couple of salads. I was so upset that I messaged the manager – who responded very quickly. He explained that they had done a rebranding of the restaurant to attract more customers and that he would refund the dinner. Yes, this was a nice customer care gesture HOWEVER, one of the reason we chose this hotel was to avoid getting out in the evening! Now we had to decide – do we leave and drive to any other restaurant or stick it up and have pub food? Really not a choice I wanted to have at that stage. Now, to go into details for each area… I checked the Tourism Grading South Africa to see what is required for a 4 star hotel. I thought – let me check as maybe I am asking “too much”… but clearly not! All the below points are from the official Tourism site. Hotel in general: Room service must be available. * Not available Servicing of rooms 7 days a week (this includes linen/towel change, removal of rubbish and cleaning). * Our room were not cleaned Laundry service i.e. laundry bags and list. * Not available A noiseless, mini bar fridge available on request. * The fridge made noise the whole night – we had to turn it off Adequate, fit for purpose and appropriate protection against insects should be provided in each guest room. * There was ants in the bathroom – you can ask for pictures which I took during the stay Laundry bags and laundry price lists are to be provided to guests in the room, with an indication of the days the service is available. * Not available 18 hour room service must be available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. * Not available A dedicated fixed internet option or wireless internet access in each room is a requirement. * Not available! And wifi not available on the property. The only wifi working was the reception one and was down most of the time Housekeeping Services available 16 hours daily. * Not available Bedroom: In-room safe required. * Not available Excellent quality and condition in the standard of furniture, furnishings, flooring, fittings and décor. * Stained chairs in the room and tear seat by the desk A desk equipped with seating fit for purpose, phone, desk light and an international multi-power point/plug. * No desk light, no multi plug with international plug Additional luggage stands for more than one guest available on request. * Not available. Had to use the bed for the luggage Excellent quality window dressings must be provided. * This is a joke! Either you have light or people outside see you! No in between!! Fitted or flat sheet and Top Sheet, with one blanket and a bedspread or a duvet with a cover per bed. * Only the fitted sheet and a thin duvet. A minimum of two excellent quality pillows per sleeping position, proportionate to the size of the bed with an additional pillow and blanket in the room. * Not available! No extra blanket or pillow A full length mirror with direct lighting as well as a well-lit mirror at dressing table area in close proximity * Full length mirror but no mirror by the desk for whoever need to do their make-up / hair Bathroom: Vanity space should be of sufficient size to accommodate guest amenities according to the sleeping capacity. * Way too small A minimum of two separate hooks for clothes must be provided. * Not available All bathrooms equipped with double ply toilet paper and holder plus a minimum of 1 spare toilet roll. * Only HALF a toilet roll in the bathroom which was not changed during the stay An excellent quality clean, absorbent face cloth, hand towel and a bath sheet per person. * Only two small towels per person, which are old and worn Toilet brush or provide a cleaning service. * Not available Comprehensive personal amenities including tissues, shower cap, shampoo, conditioner, (or conditioning shampoo), shower gel and body lotion * Only bare minimum of shampoo, conditioner and body lotion Reception: Reception area should be staffed a minimum of 18 hours to 24 hours a day. The hours of operation for reception are to be displayed in a prominent pubic area position. * Not available. We tried to get someone to assist us around 11pm and no one was available Restaurant: Provision made for a variety of dietary requirements, e.g.: Kosher, Halaal, diabetic, vegetarian, etc. * Not available Three courses available for dinner. A substantial choice of hot and cold dishes. * Only a PUB on site, not a restaurant! The food ordered was not available A good range of hot and cold items offered for breakfast, together with a choice of good quality accompaniments. * Only 4 choices of meals, nothing else A room service menu for breakfast must be in the room or at reception for the guest to complete and must offer of choice of excellent quality items which are appropriate to the level of star grading being applied for. * Not available Staff demonstrating excellent levels of food, beverage and wine product knowledge and service skills * No wine list whatsoever on site, staff didn’t know about the steaks nor about the eggs in the morning How can you call yourself a 4 star hotel?? Your certificate was delivered in March (?) 2017. I think it might be time to have the property reevaluated. The whole stay was a joke. At R1150 per night, I would have much rather stayed in a 3 star hotel where I would have at least got what I would have expected!

Thank you Audrey, for the detailed experience and complaints. I will use this for our weekly staff training to better our staff and service. I did explain to you the thinking around changing the restaurant, it was a business and marketing decision. I did apologise to you on the night and I will do so now again. I think a lot of your comments are unfair. But I do apologise if the stay was not up to your standards. Hopefully you will stay with us again and we will prove to you that we not all bad.

Hotel was clean and tidy. Need was comfortable. We asked for extra pillows and they arrived immediately. The breakfast was delicious. The hotel arranged a shuttle to transport us to the concert and back. It was very well arranged. Two things I was not aware of when booking there is no aircon/heater and there is no bath. A health and safety issue in the room the wall heater was in bus just hanging in the wall. It was still plugged in and switched on.

The Airconditioning/heater didn’t work and it was freezing. There was a dirty towel left in the bathroom. Only one clean bath towel was left for us. The hot water didn’t work in my children’s room. The food in the restaurant was cold and not very appetizing.

As the name and costs suggests, I expected Boutique Hotel treatment. What I got was an self-catering accomodation. No heating or cooling in the room, bedsheets thinner than the non-existent toiletpaper when I got there and breakfast served at the leisure of the staff rather than the guests.
