I spent 3 nights at The Jack Rose recently and 2 nights there in February.

I found it to be a very good place to stay that suited my needs well. It is well located in Rosebank, a short walk (less than 5 minutes) from Rosebank Mall and a 30-40 minute drive from the airport.

The rooms I stayed in were very comfortable and spacious, particularly in February when I was upgraded to a suite. Rooms, and the hotel overall, are kept very clean. There is also a restaurant attached to the property which I found to be a very good place for breakfast.

I had a number of requests for assistance from the staff and found them to be very helpful. I would certainly stay at The Jack Rose again if spending a few nights in Johannesburg.

Apart from Kea, the front house staff are not the most friendliest. Had they been more amenable to the guests and their needs; I would still have stayed there.
No generator on site - Not worth R900/night and even backup power.
VERY noisy inside and out. Constant noise especially banging doors, and noisy staff and other guests. Not a suitable work from home environment.

Great location, however, there were people smoking marijuana in the rooms which went about room corridors which should be advertised online if it is allowed. Breakfast was cancelled because the workers were on holiday and was told there will be no refund/back up plans until I pushed to see the manager who was nonchalant at his approach. Totally displeased, internet in the room and television could have been tested prior to my arrival and at that point I didnt bother to ask for assistance as it would just be one night.

The least you can do is provide emergency lights during load shedding and provide adequate info at check-in. Parking area must be clearly marked to avoid confusion since location is on a busy road. General cleanliness can also be improved to improve your guests comfort levels.

Please do not stay at this establishment
Unfortunately, very little of what they say on their website is true.
I booked a stay with them for 3 weeks, but had such a bad experience that I had to start negotiating a refund with them on day two of my stay.
Firstly, the room was dirty! I could not walk barefoot, cutlery AND crockery from the cupboard were dirty, the blinds still had spatter from the previous occupants, the curtains came off the rod and the lace curtain had dark stains on it, the dust bunnies rolled around, the fridge/freezer hasn’t been plugged in for a while with water running across the floor, and I never could get the tv to work.
The shower that is over the bath ran out of hot water in minutes and because the bath did not run out properly, I was standing ancle deep in my own cold shower water. Not to mention the mould on the ceiling and walls and light fixture.
I asked reception for assistance with the safe and was informed that I cannot as the manager has the key and will only be in at 09:30am (when I am at work already).
Breakfast is ‘included’ but please note that there are NO substitutes or alternatives, it is 2 eggs, 2 rashes bacon, toast and chips every single morning in a place where the couches have burnt holes and the cleaner tries to mop by your table while you have breakfast.
They did offer me an alternative room but the trust was already broken and I felt disgusted by the whole experience. Needless to say, no matter how nicely I asked, they refused to refund me.
I am also still looking for the GOOD coffee they promise on their website. No such thing in the room.

The TV remote batteries were dead and I used aircon remote ones. TV played for 1 hour then it said connection is dead. There was no extra blanket and when I asked for it at reception, the guy there gave me a hard time, he was caretaker or something and said I should have spoken Sooner, the lady at reception had gone to sleep so i couldn't be helped. I explained that it was cold and I didn't know the receptionist would knock off early. Access card was problematic, I kept having to get reception lady to come help me open my door. When I finally got the 'extra blanket' it was a duvet not blanket and overly smelt of perfume or something. The windows couldnt close properly. Breakfast in the morning wasn't seasoned and there was no salt in sight. My stay there wasn't the best

I arrived around midnight and there was no heating in the room, it was 6°C, no electricity.
I had to sleep in my clothes and my hat.
It lasted the entire duration of my stay and this hotel does not have a generator to heat the rooms and restart the air conditioning.
That is unacceptable, as I am told, because it is the government that is cutting electricity. All right, but at that point, you need to warn the guests that there will be no heating or the ability to cook.
The blonde lady at the front desk is a lousy manager!

My husband and I decided to treat ourselves to a romantic night away from our home. The pictures of The jack Rose are incredibly deceptive and make it look like a cute boutique hotel. It was anything but!

My first impression of the hotel was a dirty floor as we came up from the garage to reception. The lift from the parking to reception was out or order. We were checked into a room on the noisy ground floor and right by our door were two half full dustbin bags. The room itself was sparse and lacked any warmth. The couch that faced the TV was as hard as a rock and so was the mattress and pillows.

We decided to go to a movie as we couldnt wait to get out quite frankly. We returned at about 8.30pm. At 10pm loadshedding hit and we were left sitting in complete darkness. No light was availalbe in the room and my husband had to go to the front desk to ask for a lamp. He was told that the generator only lights up reception and the rooms remain dark. At that point we had had quite enough and we decided to leave.
We asked for a refund at reception as we were not staying the night and we were quite rudely told that she couldn't help us. After much probing she reluctantly gave my husband an email address.

I would very much like a refund after such an unpleasant experience and taking into account that we did not stay the night or take advantage of the breakfast for which I had paid. I hope that the proprietors of The Jack Rose will do the right thing.
