Detailed Reviews
My last visit to Arum Place was in October 2019. Ownership changed since the last time I stayed, but I wouldn't have known unless I had asked about the previous owner, The new owners and staff have maintained the quality of the hotel to my expectations.
I booked initially for 8 nights (I extended another week) as my flight arrived in Johannesburg at 3:55 in the morning and the staff easily accommodated my 6am check in. The breakfasts are excellent and my request for no pork products was also happily fulfilled. The gardens on the property are beautiful and the property itself is located in a quiet neighborhood in Melville. Rooms are clean and very comfortable, and when I had an electricity issue in my room I was moved to another before I was even able to ask.
Keletso was a wonderful guide and help in Melville as well and always a call or a text away for anything I needed. Excellent value for money, and I hope to return later this year.

A gathering of academics.
The guesthouse was fully booked with the annual international students migration, and hostess was hospitable and attentive to guests.
The pool was green... but rooms clean, cosy and comfortable.
No toiletries provided, but room scenter available and 1 bed lamp not working, otherwise bed and breakfast satisfactory.
Noise in kitchen may disturb sensitive sleepers.
Building is over a century old! Probably explains the luke warm instead of hot water.
Disclaimer: review is over a year late.....as still unpacking memories and reviews....

Wow Wow Wow. Words can't express how happy and awesome Arum place is. Chichi and her sister Neo went out of their way to make our international guest feel at home and welcome. Everything was top class and I just wanted to say a very big thank you. We will definitely use them and I will definitely be recommending them to my friends and colleagues.

We get robbed. Not a big amount, but because of the room doesn t have a safe, we hidden the money and someone took almost the 10% of it. Whe we told the manager, the was ANGRY AT US! And treat us like the scammers. We assure her that we don t want the money back, but she has to know this. Still she wouldn t listen and mistreat us and was very agressive and call the cleaning lady in front of us tontell her that we were acussing her, etc. Worst expecience ever.

We left from Hoedspruit at 08:30 and arrive in Johannesburg at 15:00 and had to search for the Guest House, I tried my GPS but not accurate. What is confusing is the fact that the address is in Melville or Westdene.
After enquiring at a fuel station, we arrive at Arum Place Guest House and nobody at home. After a while there appear a woman from down the street. The main entrance is good but could not park my vehicle in small garage and was referred to the back. The guy assists us with our baggage up the steps. When we arrived there, it was loadshedding and no water, we spend the night in hot and humid condition. There was no air-conditioning as advertised. The next day the host moved us to a room near the entrance and has back up power but still no water. The host was very helpful and assist where she could. I would recommend that they install a generator for backup power.

Arum place was very close to Helen Joseph Hospital where I had to work. The cottage was very well equipped and clean. Self catering. The electric blanket was a winner on a very cold JHB evening and morning. Staff very friendly and breakfast had a good variety and tables very beautifully set. Overall a good stay. Thank you, keep up the good work.

I am a PhD candidate. I had come to collect data at UJ with six participants. I could not had chosen a better place to spend the night. Sesi Chichi was a star. She accompanied us to a restaurant so that we don't get lost. The rooms are beautiful inside and the peace and tranquility.

It was a stay we will never forget. All staff were lovely, and the manager Neo was extremely friendly, helpful and warm. The area was safe, but not much to do near by. But easy to get to different areas and the center. We will definitely stay there again when in Joburg.

ask the owners. , touches of grey was a queen bed I believe
I'm afraid it's not my guest house - I was a traveller, but they took four of us plus luggage to Park Station for R400 if my memory serves me correctly.
