I have to admit one of the curiosities about Foxwood house is the tale of hauntings and ghosts - but there is none of that here. This is not your archetypal dilapidated ghost house, but instead this is a rustically romantic and bucolic getaway from the noisy and hectic city. It is in a way a quiet and relaxing escape that also has a very deep history from an interesting past that somehow intersects with the modern milieu. The staff and service is very good. I love the way Foxwood has maintained its quaint theme - maintaining its antique furniture but not leaving out modern amenities. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, the furniture is well appointed and apportioned, and the bathrooms are functional and great. The gardens are mesmerizing if you are all for a fairy tale

"Thank you" seems such a hackneyed response to an exceptional review. Your kindness and effort have an impact that reaches beyond merely a review. It lifts every team member's spirit and it is our greatest reward. So what else can I say but a heartfelt: "Thank you" from all of us.

Depending on what you are looking for in a b&b, Foxwood is like going to your grandparent's house, old and secured.Overall stay was okay, service from the staff was lovely esp Dominic and Ntombi they were sweet and went all out to make us feel at home. Food was great, chef is really good. Beds comfortable but i feel a place need some proper cleaning.

Thank you for your note and kind words. It is always difficult to find a balance in maintaining the sense of elegant decay (if here can be such a thing!) and 'hard' maintenance that may destroy the ambience! Sometimes one errs by being too strongly on the side of olde-worlde charm!

Foxwood is an interesting establishment even though dated, service provided by staff was excellent! Rooms and bedding was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was on point and most enjoyable. Very interesting historical pictures provide most entertaining backdrop.

Yes, partly intentional, visiting Foxwood House is stepping into a bygone era. It is also inevitable as the historic mansion Burra-Burra and the 100-year old trees dictate the style of the entire property. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

Beautiful setting and friendly staff. You are definitely aware of the inequalities of the past...as the history of the space is very evident by the deco. However the present speaks for itself as the food was delicious and you are welcomed by warm and hospitable staff. I loved the gardens and quiet spaces to write. We did not stay however we used the space for 3 days.

We are always delighted when our guests enjoy the setting! The old home decorates itself with the generosity of so many admirers. The donations by Beyers Naude's family and Prof Elize Botha's children - the first woman to become Chancellor of the University of Stellenbosch - old volumes, artefacts and furniture all contribute to tell the story of our country, and our own and other families. The Oates family history is alive in furniture and esp. the gardens. The trees, some of them almost 100 years old, was planted by Pearl Oates. The theatre is a great venue for new voices and you have doubtlessly visited ur Garden of Fame paying tribute to so many South Africans: Abigail Kubeka, Ahmed Kathrada, and artists from all walks of life. Thank you for the trouble to write a review.

It was like staying in a magnificent farmhouse in the middle of Houghton. Full of history and quirks. We were made to feel very welcome. Lovely comfy rooms. I loved the ducks and peacocks strutting around the garden.

Thank you. Such a beautiful review. The ducks and the peacocks happily acknowledge the fact that you love them being here. We are sure they are equally happy that you were here. So are we!
