Stayed for one night, hotel is adjacent to the mall and many restaurants and coffee shops. Nice, clean rooms and comfortable beds. Bar was a little bit impersonable on Sunday night. Very good breakfast buffet with accomodating staff.

My wife and I stayed 2 nights, arriving at 1:30PM with a rental car, parking below and taking the elevator to the 2nd floor reception. A nice receptionist copied my passport, took my card payment and produced our key card which I took to operate one of the 3 elevators to the 4th floor.
Room #405 was carpeted with a closet outside the fully outfitted bathroom with a tile shower and quick hot water, then a shelf unit with a safe, coffee bar and refer(1 water), a comfortable queen(2 outlets) across a nice satellite TV(Al Jazeera, BBC, CNN, E tv news, SABC + 13 more) and a desk with chair and outlet. Secure WIFI was excellent and the room was quiet with a window wall view across Oxford Rd to the De Beers Group building. I used the nice 6 station gym.
The 7AM breakfast buffet in the lobby dining area was excellent, serviced and complete; OJ, fruits, yogurt, muesli, made to order eggs, cappuccino muffins, coffee machine and much more.
A special elevator accessed the elevated M1 walkway to the Zone Shopping Center(food court and SuperSpar) and on to the 150 store Rosebank Mall with Woolwoth’s, supermarkets and the Sunday Art & Craft Market.
Well managed hotel filled with a friendly staff that even printed some necessary papers.

Service in the bar was terrible. It was virtually empty but still took 20 minutes to get served. Then I was served the wrong drink and it took a further 10 minutes to get that sorted.
Had a colleague with me and we decided to order dinner, which was a big mistake. Took ages to get order taken, and then when it arrived my dish was not what I ordered and my colleague's steak, which was supposed to be medium arrived very well done and cold with the accompanying potatoes equally as cold. We ended up sending this back and by this time it was getting too late in the evening to be eating.
Furthermore, the room was not as requested and had to complain to moved. The second room was great but to honest by the time I'd dealt with fiasco at dinner and the room change I was tired and hungry and just wanted to go to bed.

Hi Kenton C, Thank you for your candid review. Our goal is to deliver a seamless experience. While we're glad that you appreciate our upkeep, it is disappointing that you find our bar and hospitality services inefficient. I am sorry for the letdown. We can assure you that this is not indicative of our high standards of service, care and attention to detail that we usually deliver. Please be assured that we take all feedback very seriously and I will pass this to the Team. Please stay with us again soon so that we can demonstrate our commitment to your comfort. We booked this hotel as it was the pick up and drop off for our safari tour and we thought we'd treat ourselves to a bit of luxury after a week of camping. How wrong we were. We had better facilities in the bush.
The hotel is basic. Which is fine, but for the price I would at least like the staff to say hello when you check in and not just ignore you or shout over you to their colleagues and then demand your passport without even acknowledging you first.
The only food I had here was some fries for a snack which were undercooked and soggy. Didn't make me want to rush to the restaurant.
Now to the main problem: internet and power. I know that load shedding is an issue across South Africa but everywhere else we stayed (including campsites!) were much better equipped to cope.
First of all, there was absolutely no communication about the load shedding. We'd been here for a while so we were used to it but other guests has no idea what was going on and it was only on our last day that they finally put a note in the lift explaining load shedding. I understand that there were problems with the back up generator but this was still not fixed after a week.
You'd think that given the lack of back up power there would be some kind of contingency plan but no. Guests were stuck either unable to check in or go up and down to their rooms as there was no lifts and the only staircase was accessed through the staff kitchen. We used this during one black out but it was pitch dark and we had to walk through the staff corridor and kitchen before climbing the stairs in the dark. We met other guests upstairs who were trying to find a way out in the dark and had no idea where to go as the stairs are not signposted and not really for public use unless as a fire escape.
There was no provision for back up lighting either. Everywhere else we've stayed has at least had battery powered lights in the rooms so that at best you can see, but here they had nothing. The rooms are dark and dingy even in full day light so without any form of lighting you couldn't see a thing. We were lucky and had a torch from camping but this was the only light available to us in the pitch black bathroom.
I would understand if this was a one off power cut but load shedding happens daily (sometimes multiple times a day) and I would expect a large hotel to be better prepared. The lack of communication about load shedding and complete disregard for guests safety and wellbeing was disgraceful.
To add insult to injury there was no WiFi when the power was off and very intermittent connection when it was on. For a hotel with a supposed "business suite" this is ridiculous. We weren't even given the WiFi code when we checked in. I had to remind the staff member he was supposed to give it to us.
All in all this stay was a massive overpriced disappointment. Do not stay here.

The location of this hotel was perfect. We were able to walk to The Zone for great restaurants each day and even a little shopping one day. There are nightstands on each side of the bed and outlets above each nightstand to allow us to charge our phones nearby while we slept. The pillows were extremely uncomfortable, but the bed was large and firm. The room was very spacious with nice closet space, however, the shower was so poorly designed that the gap in the glass panels necessarily meant a bathroom flood with each shower. Housekeeping came really late (14:00-15:00) one day when we had an early morning activity and wanted to spend the afternoon napping, so we had to hang out in the sun by the pool when it was time for housekeeping on our floor. Overall, the staff were so accommodating when I requested additional towels, bottled waters, and to-go breakfast boxes for our early morning. The breakfast buffet has so many different options to accommodate all tastes (definitely worth purchasing a room with breakfast).

For those that know Rosebank, the Holiday Inn was once the Crowne Plaza. The property is well located in the smart Rosebank district of Johannesburg adjacent to a wide range of shops and restaurants. Access to the Gautrain is onsite for onward travel to Johannesburg CBD, Sandton, Pretoria, or OR Tambo International Airport.
Arrival screening for COVID 19 was, IMO, OTT. They want to take daily temperatures from you and check you as you come out of the car park and at reception. There are also some quite intrusive questions about personal medical conditions, something I have not seen in any property within RSA or worldwide.
Due to COVID protocols checkin was unnecessarily slow and bureaucratic. Again, something I have not experienced at other hotels within RSA. Staff were friendly and keen to please but too keen to please IMO. At the breakfast buffet I literally had one member of staff following me around the buffet table. It was ridiculous and I said so.
Overall, this hotel is a good property keeping to the Holiday Inn standards. Rooms are well appointed, clean, and comfortable. The beds are excellent and food offerings and quality were reasonable. As ever in RSA, safety is a thing, and this hotel takes it seriously. I got the impression that the culture at this hotel was one of being determined to make an impact and win guests for when travel eventually returns to normal. This is an admirable aim but do not ignore the fact that most guests want to relax and be left alone.
The GM was approachable and wanted to engage with guests personally. This can only be a good thing.
I am sure this property will iron out the little annoying things and I recommend travellers stay here.

Check in process was a bit slow.
We complained regarding heating system not working in the room and it’s really cold to which the manager Sal called in the morning and actually explained it was due to the load shedding programmes for the power supplier.
He then went on to ask if there was anything he could do to make our stay better and offered a free breakfast which I refused.
I then asked him about the price for hotel taxi to the airport to which he said it will be free as that’s the least he can do from his side.
This I feel was excellent customer service which many hotels including 5 stars fail.
He is an asset to Holiday Inn.
Well done.
-The hotel is clean
-Very convenient as has access directly to the mall.
- private car park which was very easy to park in
Would definitely recommend others to stay here
You won’t regret!

The Holiday Inn at Rosebank has lots going for it. The location is very handy, literally a few steps from the northern exit of the Gautrain station and integrated into the malls of Rosebank. The rooms are well-appointed if slightly dated. The breakfast buffet is extensive and varied. There's a small outdoor pool to relax by.
And the staff are excellent. Aubrey on the front desk was polite, cheerful and very helpful checking us in and arranging a late check out. The staff at breakfast were smiling and eager to please. Seeing that I had already helped myself to two cups of tea and drunk them quickly, one of the waiters brought me a large takeaway cup of tea to make sure I wouldn't go thirsty!
We would happily stay here again.

The staff at the Holiday Inn in Rosebank are excellent, especially the manager Phyionah. She immediately attended to an unpleasant experience I had at checkin in a very professional way and continued to be very helpful with any queries I had during my stay. The room was very clean and had everything I needed. The location was brilliant as it is connected to a large shopping mall with plenty of shops, indoor and outdoor dining, a day spa, ATM machines and the red hop on hop off bus stopped right outside the door. The staff were very helpful in getting taxis and went out of their way to assist me. There were two cinema groups in the mall. One showing the latest blockbusters and another showing more art house movies. This was a great way to spend some evenings instead of watching TV in my room. You may like to stop by the Lindt chocolate shop before choosing your movie.

Horrible experience at Holiday Inn Rosebank, which seems to have a habit of overbooking and then feeding guests stories before off-loading them to other hotels.
I had booked well in advance directly with Holiday Inn and am a long time member of IHG Rewards loyalty programme. However, when I arrived at he hotel on 22 August they claimed not to have my booking. When I presented my confirmation they gave me some story about the booking "hanging" in their system which I don't believe. After much delay and uncertainty they tried to offload me to a hotel I'd never heard of in a worse location.
I was not the only one bumped. There were several other guests, including a family with young children, who were being told different stories (e.g. room is flooded) and also bumped to other hotels.
theyt had obviosuly given priority to a large corporate group, but I didn't like vbeing lied to, such as being told all rooms are currently occupied, which was untrue as many people had not yer checked in.
I had to be very persistent to get a comparable hotel nearby, and after keeping me waiting an hour and a half with minimal communication and no offer of even a complimentary coffee, they finally agreed to transfer me to the Voco.
Thank you Holiday Inn for causing a previously loyal guest 90 minutes of stress and anxiety, because of your overbooking and lack of priority or care to IHG Rewards members. Choose this hotel at your own risk.

Hello - the hotel is directly across from the Gautrain which is very safe. The tickets are available at the station and the train routes are easy to follow. The connecting train from the Airport to Rosebank is at Sandton which is clearly marked.
We hope this is helpful
Kind regards
Management
Upon my visit to the holiday Inn Rosebank , they did have facilities to change money from US dollars to Rand, however we opted to use a forex bureau that was located at the mall adjacent to the hotel as their rates were very competitive . Being a hotel within a mall makes it very convenient
