I came from hoedspruit after volunteering for "african impact". It was already late afternoon. The pickup from airport was a relief in unknown town . When reached the village green, the friendly smile of tbe lady made my day. A good facility with wifi in good price. Locality was good and safe. As directed by Mr. Gordon , I took the hop on hop off bus from nearby . Walking distance from the Bed and Breakfast. Spent the whole day and while coming back gave dinner order in a nearby restaurant.
They all know the place and served me in time.
You can get provisions from nearby stores . 2 minutes walking only. Breakfast in the Village green was good and fresh. The lady was kind enough to make whatever you asked .on tbe whole it was a pleasant experience.

First of all, the room itself is very nice and it was very big. There were some nice touches including complimentary slippers and a dressing gown to use (needed for the winter Joburg nights). The staff were friendly and the breakfast was good.

The points that need improving -
1) The Wifi in one of the outside rooms did not work properly. You have to connect to the main house wifi then to an extender router in the room. Despite doing this and resetting the router, it kept disconnecting. This is not ideal for someone on a work/business trip.
2) All the coffee in the room was decaf and there was no milk or milk substitute provided. I didn't bother asking for more as I was there for one night and would just have more at breakfast.
3) The radiator in the room doesn't work properly. I think it only half works as one of the lights didn't come on and it didn't produce much heat.
4) The shower in the morning was luke warm. This is weird as the night before I had a hot shower. Waking up in the cold and have an unpleasant shower was not ideal.

I think if these issues are attended to (and I'm sure the owners will as they are minor), then I think this would be a very nice place to stay.

Good morning Roisin. Thank you for staying with us at Village Green and thank you for your observations - some of which were first timers. We have recently installed fibre for the wifi so I'm surprised it didn't function efficiently. Regarding coffee, an oversight - for which apologies. We will check the radiator and the water situation. Have a great day. Regards Gordon

I always feel at home here. All the staff are very professional, helpful and always available when you need them. The rooms are clean and there is safe parking on site.
The location is quite safe and close enough to Johannesburg CBD, Parktown, Rosebank, Sandton, Fourways, Killarney, etc.
The rooms are exceptionally clean.

Gordon and Gayle were so warm and friendly. In fact all the staff were wonderful.
The rooms were comfortable, spacious, clean and well presented. We stayed in Aug 2015, so somewhat to cold to use the gardens and pool, but could appreciate the asthetics, but we did make good use of the courtyard table. Where a BBQ wax available for guest use,
A selection of shops, banks, and restraunts were available about 100 yards away.
Had a great stay.
Would love for Gordon and Gayle to come and stay in the UK with us, they were such good company.

Amanda, Jon, Clare and Keith.

Let us start with the positive first, and then end with my encounter with Mr. Hodges:

1. The cleaners/ the chefs are very friendly ladies. The english breakfast is a bit odd, but tasty. The whole place is also very clean.

2. The only reason to why this hotel has 4 stars must be the garden. The whole hotel and the rooms has a rustic feeling, and I got the luxury suite which is nothing but a big business room minus the suite. The whole place is falling appart, and I refuse to believe the myth "it is Africa man". The pool has not been cleaned for a long time, and there are leaves and dead insects there. The only decent place for a suntan is the garden, but I don't think my german neighbours in the rose room would appreciate me peeking into their windows since their suite is situated towards the garden.

3. My room was the palm room. As promised it has a private garden entrance, and a free minibar with some non-alcoholic beverage. The only problem is that the room is facing the parking lot, and the main street. Some noise must be expected.

4. The reception is at times closed, and it might be hard to find someone. I have so far meet the owner once during breakfast.

Mr. Hodges the guest house manager:

Before arriving in Johannesburg at the end of december/beginning of january I made a few requests:

1. Was it possible with airport transfer. I was greeted at the airport by a normal taxi driver. Which is not uncommon, but I was not prepared then the driver asked me Rand 400 for the drive. I had the money, but it came as a surprise so have the cash ready.

2. I asked Mr.Hodges wether he could arrange for someone to take me to Soweto. I got the price, and informed him that I wanted the trip for the 8th of february which was a sunday. On the 5th of january I received a message in which everything seemed to be in order. I sendt another e-mail at the end of january, and got no reply. I should have pushed him, but at that moment I was in Krueger park. Then I arrived at hotel on the 7th of february there was only one lady there, and she knew nothing about Soweto. She got mr. Hodges on the phone, and the whole conversation was ludicrous:

- Sunday (the 8th of february) is a bad day. My wife is here from London. Can you do it during the weekday?
- I could do it on monday, but I am leaving in the afternoon.
- Do you really want to go to Soweto?

I explained to him that I stayed a short time in Johannesburg, and since I was pressed for time I opted to do this. He reluctantly agreed to come to the guest house in two to three hours to discuss the matter. He came within two hours after another call from the guest house lady. He was needed since it seems like he was the only one who knew the password to the internernet.

Not sure wether he would come here, and not in the mood to discuss the Soweto trip I just arranged it myself something that I should have done from the onset. I managed to do it in less then an hour from a bad internett connection in a caffeteria.

I did not go to Soweto since the meeting point was the Hyatt hotel. At moments there is nobody in the reception so I tried to get a taxi from the outside. Bad idea since the whole area seems to be taxi and public transport free. I should have anticipated this so that was my fault.

I would like to thanks Mr. Hodges for directly and indirectly making a mess of my sunday in Johannesburg.

3. Tomorrow I will be leaving one day previously then planned. He could not provide me with a late checkout which I understand. Wether he is here, and has informed the others is going to be another matter. Maybe he will be here in two to three hours.

On a postive note the Zoo park is close by, and it is just nice to walk there. There is also an African restaurant Moyo which is rather good.

Very nice stay. 2 rooms for a family of 5. The house and rooms were indeed charming, very confortable and very well located in a residencial área and yet next to a shopping center with excellent restaurants (I recomend the Franco's Tratoria). Breakfast was excellent and served by very nice ladies. Definitely a plus: the couple owner of the place showing such an helpfull and nice attitude. We loved it. Bernardo.

Thank you for choosing to stay at Village Green during your flying (literally) visit to Johannesburg. We are delighted that you enjoyed your, albeit brief, time here - and we all remain amazed that you enjoyed a swim in the pool - in mid-winter Joburg! We hope that you will be back in sunny SA soon and will be able to enjoy the pool on a warm summers afternoon. Happy travels.

Hi Nick, We have a gas braai which is on the patio beside the pool for use by our guests. If required this can be moved into the garden as well. We've also got a very good place to buy your meat etc as well as a well priced liquor store right opposite
