We went for a company awards evening and it was absolutely perfect. The staff are super friendly, the place is spotless and the breakfast in the morning is AMAZING.
We also can back from the awards at 23:30 and they kept the hotel bar open for a group of us until 02:00.
Would recommend staying here and it’s walking distance to stunning shops and restaurants

Good Day FoodDrinkLove1. Thank you so much for taking the time to review your most recent stay with us at The Capital Melrose!. Your feedback is truly appreciated and i'm glad that you enjoyed our amazing breakfast offering. when you are at The Capital you are at home away from at home so it was only fair that we keep the bar open for you because that's what you do when you're at Home. We looking forward to welcoming you back in the near future. Kind Regards Karabo Kekane. Guest Relations Manager.

The hotel was modern clean and quiet. The restaurant had a sufficient amount of variety to satisfy most needs. The tv when we were done with our day was a little heavy on the sports but they did have you tube. All the tours we selected picked up here. The concierge was particularly helpful in making sure we were going to be picked up. The maid service came daily to service our room! Do I need to mention that post Covid this is highly unusual for a 5 star hotel much less a 3 star. I would say it was an aspiring to be higher than a 3 star!

I had a very good stay bit there was not enough drinking water in the rooms. I had to go asked for water at reception in the middle of the night. It is hot in gauteng and dehydration can be an issue. Most people do not drink tap water anymore.

The Capital in Melrose Arch was by far the worst hotel experience I have had. The first night I check in the sheets and the duvet were dirty. At this time the family was exhausted but when I had called room service there was nobody to assist to assist and the receptionist could only assist me after checking in all the guests!
The2nd night of my stay I requested extra tea cups which never came.
The third day of my stay I had requested tea cups and cereal bowls again and after calling several times it was only received after an hour. There are only 2 bath sheets in a family room, when I had requested extra towels I only received it after an hour of several phone calls and speaking to the house keeper on the same floor. By the time we had received the towels my family of 5 had to use the 2 bath towels repeatedly.
The service is pathetic and would not recommend anyone to stay here.

I feel that the rate I paid was not at all worth the service received. There was an issue with the air con, the room was like a furnace when I got in, I adjusted the air on and left however when I came back 5 hours later, it had still not made the room cool. On the card holder it said that the shuttle would be available until 10pm however this was not the case as the reception advised that it is open until 5pm. It was 4.50pm and no effort was made to assist me to get to the precinct even though it was raining, I had to walk in the rain.
Worst of all was the room service and food quality. For breakfast, I wanted to order waffles and was told that the machine was out of order and the waffles could be provided but the wait would be 30-40 mins so I didn’t place the order. I placed an order of English breakfast, french toast with bacon and syrup as well as the banana pancakes. The person taking the order said it would take 15-20 mins… 45 mins later, still no food after calling numerous times. This even delayed our check out! The food eventually came and it was cold to the point that the pancakes seems ice in the middle! The french toast was 2 slices of bread dipped in egg and that was it, no bacon and no syrup. The English breakfast was also cold, the eggs were terrible and some of the sausages even smelt and tasted rotten! I called the room service to advise that the order was not complete and 10 mins later the rest of the order was brought up. The breakfast cost R420! The service here was actually so poor for the money that I paid, I expected much better. I will not stay or recommend this place again, in fact I will advise people not to stay here due to the bad experience I had. No attentiveness to guests what so ever!

Staying here for a month and more. Excellent location, reasonably good facilities, value for money.
Extremely poor F&B department singularly responsible for reducing this hotel's rating. Fortunately one can order in from neighbouring restaurants; many decent restaurants in the neighbourhood offering food delivery.

Hotel stay was great until someone tried to break into our room. We woke up to a broken door in the morning and upon notifying reception, I was told to go about my day and they will get it sorted, she didn't really seemed bothered when I told her we have valuable items in the room. It was only once I requested it in writing that I notified them for insurance purposes in case something goes missing from our room. Only then did she jump to get her manager involved, whom moved us to different room.

Breakfast was atrocious! They use powdered eggs which is awful and burning insect repellent candles near the food so it tastes of citronella, not great.

We thoroughly enjoyed our cocktails though.

The staff are always very helpful which made my stay very comfortable (especially Gomo, Londie and Chante). The hotel is located in a central area but it’s still quiet enough to focus on work. There’s a nice small outdoor space with a pool for drinks or just working in the sun. The value for money considering the amenities means I will definitely stay at The Capital Melrose again.

The rooms are well kitted out with modern finishes and include a kettle, fridge and microwave. There is also decent cupboard space and the beds are comfy.

While it is across the road it is still located outside Melrose Arch which is a problem in a place like Johannesburg, especially at night. You wouldn't want to be walking from the mall to the hotel.

The restaurant staff are also not the most helpful and some of the cutlery appeared to not have been cleaned properly.

We stayed in one of the suites for one night on a short trip to Joburg. We noticed there was no hairdryer after searching the whole suite. Rang reception and said there was no hairdyer. They said there should be. Eventually after a few minutes of them telling me to look in places I had already, they said they’d send one up. 20 mins later I went down to reception to explain that a hairdryer hadn’t turned up and my wife needed one to get ready for a party we were already late for due to the lack of hairdryer. The duty manager at the desk phoned house keeping who said one would be at our room in a few minutes. 15 mins later, no hairdryer and we had to leave. When we returned at 2am there was still no hairdryer. At least my wife’s hair had dried by then!

Also, aircon didn’t work in the room!! This would have helped with the hair drying and prevented the room being hotter than the sun all night
